  1. Agreed not fair but probably accurate. They just need some time to develop and I'm sure they are hard workers and will do so. I wish them the best.
  2. I agree they will be ready to face any team by tournament time. Better to Sweat in training than Bleed in the War!!!
  3. I have to agree with Ky Rebel. I have no doubt the girls you are speaking of work hard and will get better. But the only bonafide 9th Region impact player currently on the team is Fisher. I don't make this point to put down the other girls I have no doubt they are working very hard and will be impact players at some point. I make this point because even to suggest that Coach Stamm is to blame for Conner's current record would be unfair. Heck I'll bet he even stands up during practice!!
  4. I agree but the best point guard they had is no longer on the team. The only option is probably going to bring Taulbee or Clinkenbeard to the point or hope that the younger guard I'm not sure of her name can grow up fast. This team should of learned from last year and not came into this year with the exact same weakness. It should have been no surprise to anyone when the point lead your team in turnovers last year.
  5. Seeing is believing. Dixon is a great player but you need to see Taulbee play this year. She has added to her game and can do more than shoot. She's a threat to beat defenders off the dribble this year and is a really good defender. I think you will be surprised when you see how solid she is all the way around.
  6. I agree it's a stretch that Walton has the next best 5 but Boone will not win by 30. I wouldn't be surprised if this one is very close. IMO Moss will be the best player on the floor followed by Taulbee from WV.
  7. Agree!!! She will put up big numbers. Her shooting is a given but her ball handling will help Walton fill that weakness as well.
  8. I agree but probably won't happen. I thought the Lay girl was a better option at point guard last year and I don't think she got a lot of playing time. When your starting off the year with a point guard that lead your team in turnovers last year your heading down the same road. You will beat teams with average guards and struggle against teams with solid quick backcourts. Again this is not a knock on Hoffa she's a good player and I think would be great in the 4 spot.
  9. Tori Fischer will no doubt be the leader of this team. She is a lights out shooter from 3 and can get the ball to the hole off the bounce. It will be interesting to see if Conner has enough to put around her.
  10. bballerfan You can't also dismiss the fact that Hoffa led the team in turnovers and averaged less than 3 points per game. Not a knock on Hoffa she's a good player, she's just a player being asked to play out of position. She can protect the ball with her body going east to west but she's not going to break down the defense off the bounce or push the ball up the the floor at the pace you would like to see from a point guard. With Taulbee and Slavey at the wings if you had a point guard that could push the ball on the break Walton would be very hard to beat. Taulbee by far is the best ball handler on the team but moving her to the point may cost some points from her being able to shoot less 3's. However for Walton to go as far as some of the fans think they can they have to solve the point guard problem. If not they will beat teams with average guards and struggle greatly against teams with solid quick backcourts.
  11. I agree. To me it depends on if your child really wants to play at the college level in the sport of her passion. If so by the Freshman year IMO you really need to already be focused in on that goal. If she doesn't have aspirations of playing at the college level then play as many sports as she is interested in and just have a great high school experience.
  12. No problem. Transfer from Conner great shooter above average ball handler very hard worker. She really upgrades the talent level of the team as a whole.
  13. Any change in opinions since the addition of Taulbee at Walton?
  14. I'll take that choice as well. Great kid!! Great player!!
  15. No problem sounds like we are on the same page. Make developing your skills your number one priority over the summer and play the 3 to 4 important exposure tournaments. I just see to many kids who make playing games over the summer the priority and really never work on developing their skills.
  16. Great points!!!! That's all I'm saying is I wish more people would buy into that approach.
  17. You make some great points especially about playing against good competition. All I am saying to put all your effort and money into going out and just playing AAU games during the summer is not the best route to reaching your potential as a player. I really believe there are only 3 to 4 tournaments a year that are important for players to show up at and 3 of those are NCAA certified tournaments not AAU. Our philosophy is to work on skills at least 3 to 4 days a week during the summer and go play the important exposure tournaments. There are some great AAU coaches out there and I know players can get a lot out of being under the right coach but nothing can replace consistent drilling on skills. So my point is that skills training should be the priority over the summer if you want to reach your true potential then play some tournaments where you can show those skills.
  18. I hear what your saying I really do. But are you suggesting that no girls draw college recruiters attention because they have had a tremendous high school year. And are you suggesting that if a girl works herself into one of the top 5 scorers in the the state according to KHSAA stats she wouldn't draw attention from recruiters. I'm simply saying that it can be done and I personally think it's the best route to becoming the best player you can be.
  19. I think in Girls Basketball the whole notion that you have to play AAU basketball to get noticed is way overated. In fact I would argue that it hurts more girls than helps them. I have seen player after player play 60 or so games over the summer and at the end of the 60 games they are the same player as they were at the beginning of the summer. That's because they don't take the time to work on skills. They just play all summer. There is something to be said for game experience but I would contend that a player would be much better off getting in a gym 4 to 5 days a week during the summer and working on skills. There are really only 3 to 4 tournaments during the summer that are of any major importance for players as far as exposure and I would contend that even those are a gamble. Most of them are so big that the teams are spread out over 3 to 4 sites and theres no guarantee the player will be seen by most of the scouts anyway. If a player works on their skills with someone who knows what to teach them and works hard and stays consistent with it over the summer I think that player would be by far the more improved player when next years school season comes around. If your daughter has great skills because she works at it she will make enough noise in High School Basketball to get noticed by the scouts without ever playing a AAU game over the summer.
  20. I agree Time and Score I think Gayheart and Neeley are the best backcourt in the 8th. If their inside players can step it up a notch they will be very good. Gayheart IMO will be the best player in the 8th this year.
  21. A thousand pardons have been granted. But be more careful in the future.
