Well its Thursday so prediction time...The Young Jackets learned a valuable lesson against Harlan last week and have been much more focused in practice. Skylar Griffith is emerging as a big play threat and Corey Shelton is proving to be the dependable possesion receiver the Jackets need. Lowery will be playing more reciever and is proving himself daily. On defense Chris Helton is a bear and is showing outstanding maturity for a freshman, and Jefferson Patrick flies all over the feild. This freshman class is impressive! Logan Hamlin and Dalton Sizemore have had a better week at QB, and Sizemore seems to be finally getting it. I look for the Jackets to put the Harlan game behind them and hit the ground running fast and furious against the Mountain Lions...Jackets 44 Pineville 14

In one of the oldest rivalries in the state, dating back to 1946, the young Jackets travel to Pineville licking their wounds after a tough road loss to Harlan. Pineville had a good win last week against McCreary. Although the Jackets of late have dominated this series, they fell to the Moutain Lions last year. These two teams simply despise each other. Did the Jackets grow up some with the Harlan loss? Is Pinville on a momentum rush after a big win? Buckle your seatbelts folks this could be a wild ride. Who wins this old time rivalry game? We have Pineville..a rivalry that dates back to 1946 and is always a war. We just let our youth get the best of us against Harlan turnovers and penalties and giving up too many big plays..stopped the running game, couldn't cover the pass...Oh well they will be sophmores next year..lol

Best of luck Rams...we both are licking some wounds so lets get after it and both give someone else a lickin this Friday!!!

Although not really challenged, the Jellico game did provide some insight into this young Jacket team...and the schedule only gets tougher from here. Alot of times with a young team baby steps the first couple of outings help. The grid against a very tough and good Knox Central squad (played to a 6-6 tie) was telling as the Burg showed good physicality. I admit to being a homer, heck I'd probably pick the Burg against UK..lol:ylsuper: , but I think these young Jackets just don't know they are supposed to be intimidated. As I said earlier I think its going to be a tough game, an all out war, but gonna stick with my earlier pick of the Jackets in a close one.

They met in the state middle school finals last year. Thanks for your kind wishes, as we hope you all pull off a win with Ashland this week!

Would have thought there would be a bit more posts on this one, but oh well. After watching film Harlan has good size and is well coached. The Jackets will have to play error free ball at the Dragon's lair to pull this one off. I'm going with my heart on this one (gee I usually do...lol) and am thinking the Jackets go to 2-0 in a close one 32-30.

Williamsburg and Harlan will be a dog fight IMO

This past Friday was a coming out party for a very talented young Jacket team. New comers Skylar Griffith, Chase Lowery, Dalton Sizemore, and Corey Shelton all had big plays on offense and scored. Logan Hamlin was steady at QB, and special teams played well. On Defense Jefferson Patrick had a big game at LB, as did Brandon Lyons. The front of Jeffers, Loy, and Helton collapsed Jellico's line and helped hold the offense to negative yardage. It was a great night for the Jackets, but now reality sets in. The green Dragons will be no Jellico. They are big and tough. Williamsburg has a ton of speed and Harlan is a battering ram physically. Think it will be a hard fought battle and a close one. With the game being at Harlan I guess the edge with most prognosticators would go to Harlan...Can the young Jackets overcome the trip, the hostile environment, and the physicality of the Dragons...more later in the week!

Congrats to my adopted Rams...keep it going next week against Ashland!!

Well its Thursday so prediction time. The Jackets should have this one wrapped up by halftime IMO. I predict a running clock in the second half and Williamsburg to hang 50 or so on the devils. Go Big Orange!

Williamsburg has the luxury of having 3 QB's that are quality players. Logan Hamlin is the started and was district QB of the year. He has the experience and is a good leader and understands the offense well. Dalton is a good athelete but needs some work on his mechanics, but will do well at the Burg. Skylar Griffith is a freshamn but electric things happen when he has the ball in his hands. All 3 will get snaps, Skylar will also probably be a standout at receiver this year. I'm pretty sure the coaching staff will use all three in ways to help the Burg win!

Dalton played ok will get better with experience...played against Knox's 2s with Williamsburgs 2s. Is a good looking athelete though. As far as the Super bowl comment, it would be huge for Jellico to post an upset here as they haven't been close in several years, and their coaching staff is from Whitley and Williamsburg. Look for the Jackets to take it very seriously.

The Devils of Jellico travel to the Burg for a renewal of this longstanding border rivalry. The past several years the Jackets have had the Devil's number, but as we all know rivalries can be starnge. The Youthful Jackets more than held their own in the Knox Central scrimmage last week. Jellico comes in with this being their "Super Bowl". Who wins and why? If a mod could put this into a poll it would be greatly appreciated!

It is my experience when you go into these things you don't want to show alot, want to work on certain things, and get out healthy. It appeared Knox wanted to work on the passing game and Williamsburg wanted to see how physical the d front would be. In my estimation both accomplished that. Knox will be fine, they probably felt comfortable with the run game and will be able to pound it during the season. Williamsburg will get better on the timing, and will have the whole package going on offense for the opener against Jellico. Don't think either team had any big injuries, so all in all a successful night.

Williamsburg met up with Knox Central in their grid last night and had to come away feeling pretty good. The first 20 minute half pitted each team's 1's against each other and they went toe to toe. Each team was pretty vanilla on offense, but Williamsburg moved the ball at times well. Freshman Skylar Griffith was a definite bright spot at receiver. Was very pleased with the defensive front 7 as they lined up and were very Physical. The d front of Jeffers, Loy, and Helton matched up well with Knox's front and was able to control the line of scrimmage for the most part and put pretty good pressure on the QB. The young linebacking core of Sawyers, Patrick, Brandon, and Rose played well also. The negatives on d were some missed tackles, and the DB's looked lost occasionally. Overall though the young Jackets were physical and flew around well. The offense sputtered some but should be ok when the whole package is in. The feeling i was left with is both teams have the potential to be very good.
