Didn't he pitch into the 5th on Monday? What are the rules? I thought it was a full three days of rest.

Shumate cannot be in the mix. He pitched Monday and is ineligible today.

Congrats to Holy Cross - these two teams continue to meet in tournament championship games - this year's Doc Morris and last year's Connor Classic as well (won by CovCath 4-2). Pretty good showing by the 35th District.

I was watching a classic rewind game last month - Reds vs. Phillies, 1976 National League playoffs. Its a good thing that Gary Nolan and Pedro Borbon didn't have the same strike zone as this year's 9th region zone or the Reds would have one less banner at GABP. On the other hand, I'm not sure Steve Carlton could have pitched to this strike zone either.

Marley, you bring up Adam Warning's playing time from last year over and over again on these threads. :deadhorse: Now you are doing it at the expense of one of his teammates (who, BTW, had nothing to do with the decisions on AW's playing time last year). Why can't you be happy with Mr. Warning's current success? The last time I checked, CovCath will need more than one pitcher.

I was mostly relying on TOG's posts, which, after looking at Cinc.com, seem to be more accurate. He got his 2 wins in the Conner game and the Simon Kenton game? Not sure about his ERA, but it looks like 2 earned runs in about 13 innings in the 6 appearances I listed. WOW! This has turned into a real bash session. Marley, you seem bitter. I doubt if you watched Shumate pitch last summer...my guess is that you don't even know what team he played for. His results for CovCath as a SOPHOMORE last season as recapped by TOG seem to be very good - three wins, at least that many saves...all as a SOPHOMORE. This year, from reading TOG's posts and the newspapers, it looks like Shumate has so far gotten 2 wins, 2 saves and an ERA under 1.50 in 6 appearances (Conner, St. Henry, Ryle, NCC, McNick and Simon Kenton). These results seem pretty good to me. Adam Warning is a good pitcher who looks to be having a pretty good season. Why bash his teammate?

The CCH pitching staff appears to have a season ERA of 2.18 and has an ERA of 1.43 over the last 7 games.

Interesting stat - WHIP - but I've always wondered how important it is. In this instance, it looks like the pitcher faced 17 batters through 4 innings, which is only one over the minimum (therefore having only one runner left on base). By comparison, I saw where CovCath's opponent left 12 runners on base through 4 innings the night before. What would the WHIP be for that pitcher? Now for the relevancy point - the pitchers in those two examples gave up 0 and 1 run in those two games respectively.

How about Mark Krebs - NCC - Kentucky?

Any relation to the Zach Day who used to pitch for the Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals? He was from this area - Harrison, IN, I believe.

I think that there is an added benefit to playing the regional tourney at BOK. It allows the 9th region teams the opportunity to play in an arena enviornment which will only help them when they go to Rupp Arena. All of the players and coaches I talked with are thrilled that the regional tourney is played there.

Beechwood seems to play well at Cov Cath's gym (probably because it historically is a good shooter's gym), but Holmes will get down to business. Close at half, Holmes pulls away by 16.

No problem with me, Coop. I have no dog in this fight other than I coached Adam in AAU basketball and he is a great kid with a big league body. Do you know him? Like Banana Slug, I was prompted to respond (something I really don't do very often), because I thought you, Coachg and Norm were very harsh on him by saying "what has he done"? You and I both know that is a back-handed way of saying he didn't do anything. I think his performance last year as a Soph on that CCH team speaks for itself, and the faith his coaches had in him to pitch him in those situations tells me more about the player than anything I read on here. I talk with his coaches (the Colonels coaches more frequently) and they tell me he is a very coachable kid with a tremendous amount of upside, and quite frankly, like Banana Slug, I often question the motive of some of the things I read on here. Of course he didn't play last year as much as many of the players on the "list", but how many of those players played behind the Senior-laden talent that CCH had last year? It is certainly no surprise to me that he played behind Isler, Darner, Maile, Nutini, etc, not to mention the very talented class behind those guys (Gerwe, Warning, Martin, Seimer, Schlagbaum, etc). (By the way, FWIW, I am told he handled his role very well last year with no complaints about playing time, etc.). As good as Conner Hempel is (and he is another great kid with a big time body), would he have played 3rd last year if Ryle had Ryan Darner? Coachg, would Josh Bertke (another great kid) have played 3rd if Darner played for the Tigers? Would the pitchers on that list have gotten many innings over Isler, Nutini, Krumme, Gerwe, etc.? Would any of them have started and won a District seeding game and a tournament championship game with all that other pitching talent on the roster? Adam was a Soph last year, so I am certain he had his moments where he struggled, but his body of work overall and his upside look pretty good to me. Coop, I know one of your pet peeves is in regard to posts on pitching velocity. I, too, am often skeptical (I'm certain that not all radar guns are accurate), but in this instance, I can only tell you that 87 m.p.h. was what I was told by one of Adam's pitching coaches who also happened to be one of the people running the radar gun at the Colonels' try-outs last summer. This same coach also told me that Adam was invited to a showcase put on in part by Penn State and Pitt last month and was clocked in the "low to mid 80s". This was not surprising to the pitching coach because times tend to be higher at the end of a season than in the off-season. By the way, my friend tells me that Jackson Laumann of Boone County and Vance Sullivan of Walton-Verona also need to be on that "list".

Was surprised to see this, this is 360 of what I had heard. I checked it out. I found out that he was the only full-time Sophomore on CovCath's varsity last year. He started the season as a closer and had 3 saves right out of the gate (one against Coop's Ryle team), and gave up no hits, no runs and no base runners in those games. He was moved from closer to a starter and went 3-0 with a win in a district seeding game (unusual for Coach Krumps to start a Soph in a district game with all of those talented Seniors, but I did confirm this). His last appearance was a four hit complete game win over Holy Cross in the finals of a tournament (I didn't catch which tourney). Not bad for a Soph playing on that talented CCH team with that schedule. Last summer, he played for the Kentucky Colonels and I'm told the Colonels coaches were very happy with him. Don't know what games you watched, Coachg, but I didn't hear the same thing you did. I'm not privy to what he did his previous summer, but I'm not sure how relevant it is to placement on this list. Who did he play for? I know it was not the Colonels. By the way, I understand he is 6'4", 210 lbs., and was clocked at Colonels try-outs last summer at an average of 87 m.p.h. Not sure what qualifications that Coachg, Norm, and Coop are looking for to be on this list..........

No other way to say it - you are just plain wrong. Beechwood was up 13 - 10 after 1 quarter, HC was up 4 at halftime and HC made a run in the 3rd quarter. Beechwood responded too little too late in the 4th. Hats off to HC, though, they played a great game.

Kellen Smith was the best player on the floor last night. He has great instincts and makes those around him better. Oh, and by the way, he can get to the rim with the best of them.
