Every team on Brossart's schedule is 1A except for E-town because of a schedule mixup involving availability to play another 1A school (I forget who it was) and obviously Bethel Tate which is an Ohio school, though I assume they would probably be in 1A if they were in KY. How do you build a program? You start from the bottom, build confidence, create an excitement around the program, win games, then move up in the level of non-district competition you play. You don't build a program by jumping right into a schedule that includes more than two or three teams above your class. Baby steps. I was skeptical of how Brossart football started, but since the new coach arrived I've been thoroughly impressed.

Can anyone break down the scoring? Also how did Pete Collopy and Brady Thacker look for NCC?

Hey, guess what, I voted for Ft. Campbell this week! Learned my lesson after Pearl Cohn. But seriously, the Army Navy game would still be played even if one was ranked #1 and the other one fielded a team of all walkon freshmen. Its tradition.

One thing to point out - its unusual for so many predictions to be big both ways. People are taking Conner by more than 3 TDs or Dixie by 2 TDs. I guess thats because everyone thinks this is going to be a high octane game. I agree, TDs a plenty. Whos going to put it all out on the table and try to strike as much as possible and whos going to try and rake this game back a little and have a controlled but still potent offensive attack? I say Conner may be that second team but falls short to a Dixie team that will really get into stride with this game. I'm going a little closer score because of the way I think Conner will play. Dixie 35 - Conner 31.

Still might be two chances to get to see someone you havent because its on a bigger stage, aka the playoffs and not the regular season. IMO dominating in those early playoff games could possibly give you a big edge.

In the playoffs and on the way to the championship. Not only does going deep into the playoffs show your success, it also allows for a bigger attraction of people to see you play, including voters.

What does Highlands do best? Develop. Highlands is infamous for a Spartan-like approach to practices. Freshmen team has alot of raw talent, especially in Donovan McCoy and Jac Collinsworth. Dale takes raw talent, builds it up, creates a dominate program at the varsity level. Ryle will not be able to consistently compete with Highlands until there is a complete class, meaning one fully talented and fully conditioned/trained. The reason CovCath and Highlands is as intense as it is, IMO, is that CovCath is the 2nd best school at creating that "complete class", or was at least and will be again very soon.

If NewCath uses every weapon they've got to the most effective usage then, plus two or more Ryle turnovers, maybe they win this. If the NCC D-line lets Elliot run all over them like he is capable of, Ryle 42 - NCC 24. If NewCath gives a high defensive performance, plays ball control with Kelly, but still let Hightchew and Cain hook up for a few big plays, NCC 31 - Ryle 28. The second one is the one I'm going with.

It's not out of the question to think that teams 7,8,9 all lose to NKY teams not in the to ten, the biggest possible upset being Cooper over Holmes.

I'm young and I know it so will someone please explain to me what the state of Kentucky had with the at-large state champion system, why it failed, and why it wouldnt work today with pleasing the people who want to circumvent Trinity and St. X?

Okay one class. 10 regular season games. 16 team playoffs? Or what if we turned that into 32 teams in the playoffs? Then we're looking at something similar to the Sweet 16 in basketball but with a twist like that of a regional tournament where the 2nd team from the region gets seeded against an outright champ. Thats your legit championship playoffs where the powerhouses will succeed. Now for my twist - the second, third, and fourth tier championships. Ranked by regional finish teams #3 and #4 would make the second tier playoffs, #5 and #6 to the 3rd tier playoffs, and #7 and #8 to the fourth tier playoffs. One class, four championships that even it out to the weaker big schools playing against the strongest small schools in the second and third tier with the strongest from current 3A, 2A, and 1A usually winning the fourth. But your never locked in to which playoff you'll make. Keeps it interesting and I don't think its out of the question for anybody to sneak into that 8 spot which would allow for alot of programs to see the playoffs.

Why did I vote for Pearl Cohn? 1)No Kentucky team may be able to beat FC right now, but a curveball from Tenn. might. 2) My daddy taught me to never let anything go unanimous. 3) I'll root for the underdog against the monster everyday of the week.

Now this is from years ago when I was in high school so I'll need confirmation that it still is this way, but if you lived in Southgate you could go to Campbell, Newport, or Highlands. Also you can live in any school district in Campbell Co. and still be able to go to Campbell Co. HS. How common is that through the state? Like everyone's said, I don't think it alters the transfer rules at all but is does shake things up when going from 8th to 9th grade.

I've always been one to look at motives when judging a policy. When talking about the 6class system I have to believe there were 3 major motives, and they were all connected. 1) Public/Private and the creation of an all public class - 3A 2) The domination of St. X and Trinity in 6A (IMO very connected to public/private) 3) Small schools given a chance to make the playoffs. If you think my motives are accurate or if you think they're crazy, just listen. I will not get into public/private right now, but you can't tell me the creation of the all public 3A was not influenced by separatist believers. You also can't tell me that that whole argument wasn't just a way by some coaches to circumvent the titans of Trinity and St. X. Thats my simple view on the public/private debate and its influence on the class system. Also I believe 1A should be altered to fully serve its purpose - be a developmental class. Some teams like Brossart need 1A but they don't need Beechwood in their district. Teams like Pendleton that are new or teams that historically have had problems fielding a team need a developmental class that isnt geared towards size but rather the teams that need to grow. Its an interesting concept but I understand it has many abstracts.

I'm interested in all of you voting no, will NewCath win or Brossart lose? Or both? Which one do you think is more likely? I honestly think that the only way it doesn't happen is if Bracken beats Brossart (with a slightly longer shot being a Jenkins victory over the Stangs). I just don't see NewCath pulling it off over Mad. Central or Ryle.

NCC has been to a state title game every year Brossart has even had football. I have come to realize that it is a strong possibility that Bishop Brossart starts the season 3-0 and NewCath starts 0-4. Brossart has the win against Betsy Layne and will be facing Bracken and Jenkins the next two weeks, two teams thats have both lost their 1st two games by a bunch. NCC on the otherhand has an incredibly tough 1st four games for a 2A school, the two losses to Dixie and Simon Kenton then the next two games against Madison Central and Ryle. Brossarts light schedule ends when they play E-town. NCC's schedule doesn't lighten up too much as the next two games are Campbell and CovCath then they start playing the district. The question is: will NCC start out 0-4 and Brossart 3-0.

Pete Collopy isn't just an athlete. He's a MANCHILD. They quit letting him hit in practice when he played Jr High ball because it presented too high an injury risk to he hit. Now I've only seen the guys who played NewCath Jr. High, but DeAngelo Boykins (played jr. high QB but will probably play another role this year on offense) and Dylan Hayes are also incredibly gifted athletes. You let Hayes break a tackle and theres a good chance its 6. From what I hear, overall team size is a problem, but Collopy and Brady Thacker are two of the most ferocious hitters I have seen play jr high ball. BTW Josh Cain, the injured varsity QB's brother, is frosh QB.
