The Army Bowl rolls into Fort Campbell on the upcoming anniversary of the terrorist attacks on our great nation.

 

The Fort Knox Eagles are the first Kentucky team that the Fort Campbell Falcons will face this season. Fort Campbell's defense looks to be in good shape only allowing 39 points in three games, ironically, that's the same amount of points that Fort Knox has scored in two.

 

Look for Fort Campbell to bounce back from somewhat of a poor performance in the win against Nashville's Pearl Cohn and blow Fort Knox away. Fort Campbell by more than 50, look for the running clock in the second half.

This has been a topic of discussion ever since I have joined the boards, and it seems as if it was well before that as well.

 

They play for bragging rights. There are only a handful of DoD High Schools in the entire country. One of which is in Quantico, two of which are right here in the great state of Kentucky......so it's bragging rights, no more no less.

 

Regardless of what the general high school football fan thinks of this game, it's going to happen for that reason and that reason alone.

Fort Campbell will beat Fort Knox as bad as they want. I don't look for Fort Knox to even score.

I'm a DoD supporter, believe in the base schools, but I'm telling you, Ft. Knox has no desire for "bragging rights" or anything else. Ft. Campbell only stands to get a starter injured. I would play the starters 1 quarter, and then have them take their helmets and shoulder pads off. Get the 2nd and 3rd teams some live game work. Trust me, none of the brigade is going to be offended by the Falcons letting up on the gas in this one.

I ask this same question every year. Hanging 70 on the scoreboard does little good for either team. However, tradition trumps all other reasons in this match-up, even considering the three-hour plus bus ride.

 

This will be a good game for FC to scrimmage some new plays and get a lot of younger kids in the game for some valuable experience. Another benefit from this game is FC can rest some players that were nicked-up a little in the very physical game with Pearl Cohn in the inner-city Nashville 'hood.

 

Sub-plot: FC Senior LB #5 Marquel Ross was a Ft. Knox student last year, but didn’t play football due to the state of the Ft. Knox program. This season, Ross has started two of the three games for FC and will probably be looking to make an impact in this game.

 

I look for the Falcons to shut-out the Eagles, but Coach Berner may show mercy on the Eagles with the scoring. Look for lots of young Falcons on the field and FC to win by 4 TDs. I would be surprised if Berner hangs 80 on the board like Hancock County did against the Eagles. FC knows who they are and don’t need to make an 80 point statement in this game.

I must agree with Falconbacker and Bill...this is a game of tradition. Unfortunately as tradition has it, not a very close game lately. Fort Campbell and Fort Knox are the only two Army high schools in the United States. Traditions like this don't usually stop just because one team is better than another in this decade...give it time, and who knows maybe Fort Knox will become a bigger power again.

 

My guess is the score will be 50-0...or so. I also agree that many FTCKY JV players will get to see game time this week!!! Good for them...and good to rest our Varsity injuries.

Lately it has been all Falcons, but Coach Berner did lose to Ft Knox the first year he coached the Falcons. There may not be a lot of excitement surrounding the game when one team is at the top of 2A and the other is near the bottom, but that has not always been the case and may very well change in the coming years. IMO the distinction of having the only two Army High Schools in the United States playing each other is worth riding out the ebb and flow of a few lopsided wins and to play the game on 9/11 adds additional significance.

First off let me say, I am from Eastern KY and don't know anything about this game. With that said, is there a big todo about this game?? I am thinking that this game would be a sight to see if nothing else for the pre-game and perhaps half time shows. Do they do it up??
