  1. Miami is not the most talented team top to bottom. Not even close; yet they are still one of the favorites to win it all mainly due to their top 3. (comment from another post) Not taking anything away from Hickey, but Teague is in a different stratosphere from a talent perspective. Don't be fooled when you see talented HS kids playing easy during HS games, most do not understand how to play the entire game at their highest level and so a great colllege coach teaches that. Indiana didn't find it necessary to bring role players to their team and I'm afraid we are going to see why. Give me the best talent and I will take a chance that I can mold them into a coehisive unit in a very short period of time. If our coaches can't do that then we may need to start their and get coaches that have that ability.
  2. First of all congratulations to all the players that made the team. I think that is a huge honor. Its a huge honor to be offered a tryout. I'm not questioning any one school. My concern is if Eastern or Mason were so good... yet upset in the post-season, how are they going to fair against an all-star team from Indiana? The 'picking a team' theory just isn't working with that line of thinking. I think Coach Cal has it right, "I'll take talent over experience anyday". These group of coaches apparently don't subscribe to that theory. I'm guessing their are easily 5 Sr's not on this team that could be the best this All-Star "TEAM" has to offer. We left way too much talent in the cupboard. I guess time will tell. Here's hoping that we don't drop two blowouts to Indiana!
  3. Can't say anything about the tryout as I wasn't there. Can say that Kellen is a much much better player than Gilbert and I don't think you will get an arguement in that outside of a homer. I don't understand the selection criteria but this may be a reflection why Indiana has dominated the series for so long. Some of the players left off the team clearly shows that the coaches didn't like certain aspects of their game because they did not select them by talent.
  4. The biggest problem with a forum like this is that everyone is blinded when it comes to their home teams. I think the region will shake out with 3 or 4 teams truly considered the favorites in the end. This year will really put the coaches on display as the region is wide open. Based on that, I would def. give some of the stronger coaches an edge this year. Your traditional powers will compete for the title along with a few teams that haven't been able to do so in the past. One team that surprises me that is not mentioned is Scott. I think everyone put them low at the beginning of the current year because they lost many key players from the previous year. This year is no different and I think you are going to see a very very competitive team when the regional roles around. Harrison Cnty and Montgomery might be the top 2 with what they have returning Then I would place Mason, Scott, Brossart, Campbell Cnty and Pendelton right (and I mean very close) behind them.
  5. Congrats!! They are a very good team and wish them the best of luck in representing the 10th. I have to admit, after putting my eagles out the past tournaments (seems like decade) I am glad to see this Cardinal group graduate! Again, best of luck and hope you bring the title home to the 10th.
  6. It was done in good taste and everyone (officials, Scott coaches etc..) impacted knew in advance. The crowd, Scott players were all surprised to see him step out, catch the pass and nail the the three. I know everyone around me was laughing and cheering when he nailed the shot. I'm also thrilled the officials didn't give him a 'T' or anything crazy as it was clearly in fun. Something all the kids can talk about the rest of their lives. Congrats to Augusta on a great year and everyone should be proud of their team. They competed very hard until time expired and just ran into a buzz saw. Hope their crowd shows up tonight to pull for the Eagles. They need all the support they can get against a very tough Clark team. Hopefully, this is our year to get by them.
  7. After all the arguments on BGP regarding the Fieldhouse vs. BOK. I'm really surprised to see that more tickets were sold at BOK than when held in the Fieldhouse.
  8. 1962 the region was held in Shelby County. Henry County has hosted since this time.
  9. Holmes travels to Scott this Saturday. Holmes has been struggling lately and is trying to get back in the win column after several tough losses. Scott is arguably the hotest team in NKY.
  10. I agree with this one! I see it so much I'm not sure if it is in Taylor Mill or Covington.
  11. Hatton is a very good player. Right now at this point in time though, I would take Kellen Smith and hang up a lot of W's (not saying you wouldn't with Hatton either). Will Hatton be a better player over time? I think so and he still has a long way to go in his High School career. Kellen adds a ton of intangibles that don't show up in a box score. Hands down the most intelligent player in Northern Kentucky and gets the most out of his abilities. I think if you add these intangibles to his stats... well that is what gives him that seperation.
  12. I'm struggeling in seeing how Scott and Boone County are tied for 4th the week following a head to head match-up.
  13. I'm not sure Scott gets enough credit for their defense. They do not allow a lot of space and really make it difficult to get open looks. A lot of teams have had bad shooting nights against them and I really believe their defense has a lot to do with that. Not to mention their center blocks or adjusts a lot of shots when anyone gets around the basket. Campbell County did fight the entire game and never gave up. The campbells hit some tough 3 pointers in the 2nd half to climb back in the game but Scott wouldn't relinquish control. Huge games from Kellen Smith and Cameron Haynes. They seemed to be able to penetrate whenever they needed too.
  14. Scott squandered a 18 pt lead late in the game to only win by 7. The eagles really struggled from foul line down the stretch but was able to hang on for a hard fought win.
  15. If they referees were consistant with it then the players would adjust. It is a very big advantage for a defense and IMO should be called. I really don't want to see the HS or college level turn into the NBA. I don't think it has been called consistently this year even though it is supposed to be a point of emphasis.
  16. What impressed me with Scott was their defense and the fact this team seems to have learned to handle adversity. First of all, there defense can be tough and they are very well schooled in knowing who the opposing teams shooters are. I remember seeing Brown and Crabtree??(Center) stand uncontested 10 ft from the goal. The McQueary kid had someone near him at all times and I can't think of maybe one open look he had all night. The adversity part comes from the fact that Scott's PG sat most of the 2nd quarter if not all of it (Coaches choice??) and also from the fact the their Center didn't play at all during the 4th qtr and a good portion of the 3rd (fouls?). Don't forget that one starter was not at the game due to illness.... so all of this adds up for a recipe for trouble, but the team banded together and wouldn't relent. I thought the deciding factor in the game was the fact that Scott's guards seemed to control Boone's for most of the game. This prevented them from getting the ball to Brown early and when they were able to get him the ball he had to deal with Scott's center and Brown was not able to shoot over him. Great game by both teams but Scott is playing better ball right now.
  17. I wouldn't mind it at all. I've ran much larger events than this one. I can tell you changes that would be made immediately. One, students wouldn't be allowed to sit behind opposing teams benches and two fans would be designated an appropriate area to sit in. The home team is the home team and the visiting team is the visiting team regardless of location or facility.
  18. I think some of these posts are laying out exactly the issues that have grown in the 10th. The mind-set is this is the way it is so deal with it. The reality is treat the tournament with respect or it may not be in the Fieldhouse for 40yrs straight. Instead it will be rotated and you get to host one maybe two years out of four. What happened to trying to be a good host? That's all that is being asked. The funny thing is the answer to the question is alway Mason's record??? Act like you have been there before. A good program like Mason's Cnty doesn't need to cheapen it by placing student's behind the opposing team benches or say things like "this is our gym so we aren't going to move". Don't avoid the issue, fix it. All 10th region schools own the regional tourney and have a right to voice their opiniions and the perinial host has the responsibility to listen and act.
  19. Unfortunately, a lot disagree with the way it was ran last year. Run it the right way and a lot of the talk goes away. Can anyone name another Regional tournament that has the home student section behind the visiting teams bench? Can anyone name a college team that allows this to occur? hmmmm wonder why? Safety? Sportsmanship? Fairness for a supposed neutral tournament? The 10th Region is a great tournament. So is the 7th, 9th, 12th and 13th. Didn't see students sitting behind either teams benches and the atmosphere is top notch!
  20. No not at all. I thought Mason Cnty had a really good team last year and they proved it! What I'm TRYING to say is Mason Cnty (or the tourney director) needs to do a better job running the 10th Region tournament. I've also stated that its a joke if people think the Fieldhouse is better than BOK center and that Montgomery Cnty is not a viable option to host the tournament. You can't take anything away from Mason County's program, one of the tops in the state. I have also said that its not a neutral site when Mason has such advantages. The regional tournaments should be treated as neutral sites. If some fans (as they have stated on here) or administrators say 'no way, its our home court and this is the way it is" well they should not host.
  21. 7 Holmes 5 Harrison County 3 Montgomery County 2 Mason County 1 Boone County TB Holmes
  22. Loved it! Mason Cnty fans hated it because they couldn't place their students behind the opposing teams bench! LOL Clyde, What would everyone in the 9th say if the Cov Cath students sat right behind the Highlands bench during the Regional finals? Imagine the players sitting their during the game having to take the constant taunts and not to mention unable to hear their coach during timeouts as the students are purposely yelling so the opposing team can't hear? Do you think they would love it or would their be complaints?
