  1. It is so strange to me how this thread seems to show the shortcomings of an older gym yet so many in Mason County feel that this is the 'only' venue that can hold a tournament.
  2. I obviously do not know who everyone is that is throwing in their two cents and speculating on every rumor they have heard. Being part of the Scott family I can assure you he has more support that not. A lot of these comments are pure speculation or conjecture. The majority of the kids at Scott appreciate him and I can assure you many many parents appreciate the accountability. That level of accountability will only help these young men succeed in life and that is ultimately what it is all about. With that said, no coach or administrator can make everyone happy. There are so many minutes, so many spots for the team and ultimately that leaves the majority upset because their kid is 'all-world' and never gets off the bench. That's part of it. For those outside looking in, well, simply don't believe everything you hear. The overall majority of the posters have clearly stated the type of person Coach Carr is and if a few want to see him once or twice a year and form an opinion. Well, that's your shortcomings. Just don't tear a good person down (and believe me not all coaches are in this category) that has the kids best interest in mind.
  3. I attended almost everygame last year at BOK. Explain to me how the 10th played second fidle? I didn't see a difference other than one played before the other. These are the 'homer' statements and apparent overall attitude of the Mason County tourney committee that has placed them behind the times. Unfortunately, I didn't get to attend the finals this year but the semi-finals atmosphere was equally entertaining at BOK. The 9th finals this year was awesome except for the blowout but that didn't stop the Newport section from having a great time. Tell them how bad BOK is... LOL. These comments just don't hold it. Believe me, I owe neither location so I'm about as neutral as they get. Love HS basketball and can tell you the Fieldhouse has lost its charm. Sorry to break the news but a bigger and better arena is now in town.
  4. I just wonder what this says about Scott's Administration? If they don't see what he has done for the school and program then I'm not sure they are in the right position. If you attend their games on a regular basis and actually spend time around the program you know things are being done right. You will have some that are overlly sensitive but the overall positives by far outweigh the negatives.
  5. Source: Myself and wife. I sat directly behind the bench during that game and my wife and I, along with several other behind the bench, will tell you that Coach Carr was not out of line. He is def. demonstrative but has been since I have seen him coach. He does a great job with these kids in not only basketball, but in LIFE. And to me, that is by far the most important aspect. I have also yet to see him not pick up and encourage any kid that he has corrected. Many many adults fail to do this and usually leave the kid in pieces and fail to recognize what they have done. Just go watch a youth football game!! Coach Carr is a great representative for the School, and administration. You don't have to agree with his tactics but in the end it does have positive results. I also wish people would get to hear all the positive impacts he has had on certain kids lives. Few know of them because he doesn't brag and he is not in it to be patted on the back. That is what I want from my coach because I haven't had too many life experiences in the work place where I am coddeled. It would be a shame if he was being preassured to leave. If that is the case, then the administrator making that decision should be preassured to leave.
  6. It should be a great game and this would be even worse if people were turned away. They could all be in NKU's arena watching in a nice environment with all the concession they want. The teams cheering sections would be divided fairly and there wouldn't be 'home court' advantages of students behind oppossing teams benches etc... Nice of them to put up the jumbo-tron but get real. Time to move to the best venue.
  7. I would be there as well!! LOL.. probably with a $6 box of chicken strips wishing I had a $5 beer!!! At least I have a choice on the strips!
  8. Sumoroyal you clearly need to remove yourself from this conversation as you are very very biased. There is no way in the world you can claim a better arena. Not even taking that conversation its so far from reality. If the fieldhouse is at capacity and you say it wouldn't be at NKU then that simply means the Mason fans do not travel well. Several friends and I would love to attend but will not be able to make it but I assure you that you would draw a lot larger 'non-playing audience' in NKU than at Mason. Mason's lack of travel should not become a problem for the other teams in the Region. Great program! One of the best if not the best in the Region and certainly ranks up there with the best in the state. Just stating the facts according to your comment. Also, if you are the tournament host it is YOUR responsibility to ensure the tournament is ran according to the agreed upon rules. Not stating that I know them, just saying it is their responsbility. Yes opposing coaches have a chance to voice their concerns but at the same time the host school should go out of their way to make this a non-issue. That just common curteousy and being prideful of the tournement you are hosting. Maybe Mason has held the title so long that they have become a little lax? Dunno, just saying their is now a better venue and it is time to move it.
  9. Easiest solution? Go to the nicest arena in the area that is willing to host the tournament and there is not a problem. Like I said earlier in the thread. The fieldhouse is old and really not condusive to fixing this issue. Nice seats, plenty of room, better concessions (if you choose to partake; but you have that choice) and there is no bickering. Kids get to play in NKU's new arena with a trip to RUPP on line. :dancingpa
  10. I have never seen this as an issue at NKU's arena. Students sit in the endzones and the rest of us old folks can buy seats on the sidelines buy our overpriced concessions and enjoy ourselves. LOL
  11. Well... with that attitude why do they play in RUPP??? Come on, let the kids play in the best possible venues. Put your county pride, $$ or whatever aside and put the kids in the best venues.
  12. I have watched the 9th region games and a few 10th region games this year. Unfortunately, couldn't make some of the girls. Will probably watch the 9th Region finals. As far as disgruntled? Not at all.... Just stating the obvious. I don't think anyone can compare the two facilities. The fieldhouse is big and def. a nice HS arena, but to say it is anywhere close to NKU's facility? No way. not even a contest.
  13. I agree but even the opposing fans get a little carried away at times. I think its simply better and safer putting the respective teams fans behind their benches. Clark has a great following, impressive student support. I hated to see when they all put their fingers in the Scott players face during one of the inbounds in front of GRC students but other than that the school has a lot to be proud of.
  14. I'm not sure they have many option in the Fieldhouse; time has probably passed it by. Where do you place both teams student section? You can't put them on the same side. So either way you end up leaving the opposing teams fans behind one of the benches. No way around it.
  15. Great game this evening and expect the Mason and Clark game to be equally entertaining. As far as the Clark vs. Scott game; well unbelievably bad officiating and I hope the one official is a little embarrassed once he watches the game tape. Seemed to be reacting to players without really seeing what was happening. Made horrible calls both ways. While I thought it was called bad both ways, this really played to GRC's advantage as Scott does not have the bench to battle GRC and that is one reason I think the officials really played a major role in the game. The Scott kid did deserve the technical and has to keep his cool. From my angle the Scott kid didn't touch the Clark county player. It looked as if the officla simply reacted once again to someone falling without really seeing what happened. This occured time and time again with the same official and against both teams. But like I said, this was to Clarks advantage. Scott and Clark provided a great game and all the kids played extremely hard. Hate to see it decided this way but that is why you have to make your own breaks. Good luck to Clark and congrats to Scott for a solid year.
  16. I do not post a lot and really am a nuetral observer when it comes to the fieldhouse and the NKU arena. Having watched mulitple games at both locations the past few years there is no comparison. The NKU arena is much nicer, more comfortable and the concessions are not even close. Yes, they are a little pricy but I am not forced to purchase anything. As for the individuals that have said you should eat before the game, well I have in both locations and found the Northern Kentucky has a lot more to offer than in Maysville. I see a lot of Maysville people claiming your arena is by far the best atmosphere, and after sitting thru two regional tourneys in the last two years I have to respectfully disagree. Its not even close. I would also think the kids would enjoy playing in NKU's arena and then hopefully RUPP. Wouldn't that be a cool thing to experience as a High School player?
  17. River City Hurricanes is different than the RC Celtics. The River City Hurricanes are a very big team and should play D1 in the state. But most likely they will try and defend their title in D2 to avoid teams that may beat them :isurrender: I think they won the D2 State last year by an average of 30? Weak if they go back to D2! The Ville beat Atlanta Express by 3 in the finals. Both teams are very good and def. two of the top 3 teams in the Super Regional. The Indy Panthers were very impressive and had an off game when they played the Ville. The Ville may have caused that off game but the Indy kids just did not finish like they normally do. Great, Great field in Lexington for the SuperRegional.:dancingpa
  18. My take is if you are holding tryouts, then play D1 and suck it up! A lot of teams are put together with local kids from the same area and that is what D2 is designed for IMO. If you want to build a true select team then man up and play against your level of competition. I equate a select team playing D2 it to any AAU team playing rec. ball.
  19. What is the purpose of the grade exception rule? What is AAU trying to accompolish with it?
  20. Thanks Rainman. I was just curious. I had heard so much chatter and comments, you know how everyone gets when they see a nice team, especailly if the kids are big. Anyway, I was able to see them play for a few minutes this weekend and the way people were talking around me made me want to go to a source that knew the facts.
  21. Just out of curiosity:confused: How many of these 13U 'KY Elite' kids are 13? How many have held back a grade? Not trying to sound negative. I'm just curious how many have been held back?:idunno:
  22. Kind of interesting. I spoke with a good friend (a really good coach) who said they watched Twenhofel twice. They beat a really good team in Clinton County and received a lot of attention because they looked to be one of the better teams. The coach started the game against Mayfield with an entirely different 5. Said they just looked un-enthused and not very fast and they played most of the game. He did say some of the other kids played in spurts (that mostly played against Clinton Co) but he never really put them out there any length of time against Mayfield. I find that interesting as he said that was one of the strangest coached teams in the tourney. When you have a group of kids playing well keep it going!!! Anyway, Twenhofel apparently made some strong impressions. Kudos to that team. Just hope there aren't some politics going on within the team that hurt them. He also said Madison apparently looked the most impressive. They have one kid that is def. head and above anyone else in the tourney.
