Sorry I didn't make myself clear. I have known of people who started their kids in Kindergarten at age 5 knowing full well that they would have them repeat a grade in the early years for the sole purposes of sports. They go ahead and start the kid so they won't have to pay daycare. Those students get an extra year of school at the taxpayers expense. I think it is fine to hold a kid out of school if the parents think it is best and I certainly don't have a problem with the the student who repeats a grade for academic or maturity issues. It just bothers me to see kids go to school an extra year just for sports. Just my opinion.

My only problem with sports holdbacks (in public schools) is the taxpayers footing the bill so little Johnny might have a better high school sports career but I don't see anything being done about it any time soon.

Maybe people who want to differentiate could say a 14 yr old freshman, a 15 yr old freshman or a 16 yr old freshman. The only difference it makes, as long as they are young enough to play as a senior, is the size, maturatity factor. A freshman who is 6' 4" and is 14 is different than a 16 yr old freshman who is 6'4" because he has more of a chance to grow and get stronger than the older player. That's why I like to know the approximate age of players.

Agreed. There are no other players as good as Gayhart on the team and none other who have worked as hard or put in the hours she has put in but there are other very good players on the team. If Owen's opponents think that all they have to do is stop Gayhart they are mistaken.

Maybe they ran out before I got there for the last game but I couldn't find one and no one around me had one either.

Couldn't tell you if Grant Co played alot of players or not but Owen looked much better than they did at Walton. The game last night was tied 10-10 with about a minute to go so I would guess Grant stuck with their "A" team for most of the game. I was disappointed that for $8.00 admission there were no rosters provided. Heck, I would have even given a couple of bucks for one.

What if a player excels in his/her sport but is not what one would consider a good citizen or is not looked upon as a positive role model. Should that prohibit his/her jersey from being displayed or number being retired?
