With basketball seasons kicking off all over Kentucky this week, what are some good matchups to be on the lookout for?

He did play for both of Boyle Counties two state regions and state runs. He is an awesome choice and i know you will be seeing some changes made in both offense and defense! Congrats Justin!

After reading all of these posts i now have come to these conclusions: 1. Fans of a team will always see things one sided. (I knew this but these posts verified it!) 2. Referees are HUMAN and make mistakes. (Always knew this one was true. I just like it when they make fewer against my team!) 3. If a referee(s) makes a mistake that costs a team a very important game they will be ridiculed and made fun of on BGP. (This can also happen to coaches!) 4. No matter how many freethrows, layups, or jumpshots are missed in game, if an official misses a call on a made basket it is their fault if a team loses. (I'm still up in the air on this one b/c it only happens in basketball leagues which do not have INstant Replay.) 5. Official score keepers are important (Really good ones are hard to come by!), but they can never count a basket or make foul calls. 6. If robots officiated basketball we would find something to complain about (they call it to tight, they call too many touch fouls, they don't communicate well with coaches, they drove off the court too fast after the final buzzer) 7. Sports will always be something people are passionate about, however, we should never elevate that passion so high that we forget that it is just a game. Players, coaches, referees, fans, scorekeepers, concession stand workers, parents, ect..those people are what make sports great. The relationships that are built and love of the game are what make it fun to watch. (Especially, when my team wins!!!) 8. I wasted some very precious moments of my life i can never get back reading this post. Its kind of sad now that i think about it.

I was giving a rough estimate. Thanks for pointing out a biology teacher's poor math. Its like teaching class, here i find someone else thinking im pitiful. Ain't life grand! As i tell my students there jvdfc, everyone makes mistakes. Its what you what learn and do aftering making them that defines you. This situation happened and i am sure the KHSAA, BBA and every other association in the state will bring this play up in the future. Hopefully some changes, such as instant replay, will come down the pipeline to make sure this doesn't happen again! The only thing i see as being pitiful would be dwelling on something that can't be changed now instead of focusing on some of the outstanding things FC and its kids did this year, and will continue to do into the future.

Not at all. My post basically summed up what i saw, since i was at the game, and discussed it with several people there and afterward. There were about 11 coaches and referees sitting around me and we were 50/50 on who thought it counted and who thought it didn't. Obviously now we have seen the video and can say the call was missed. What's so ridiculous about that? I know you were pulling for FC so maybe that was why. Instant Replay would have been the only solution in this situation no matter what the call. If he would have counted it they could have double checked that it was indeed good. We all know what would have happened had they had that opportunity here. It's sad for the players, fans and coaches for FC and will always be a what if.

It appears from the look of this post the BBA will have quite a few new members next season. I look forward to seeing them suite up and work some games.

Which is the point...if you do not know the job of each official and where they are supposed to be looking, then you do not have a reason to question it. As explained before on here, it was the trail officials call. He happened to have the worst look at it and if the other two officals are not 100% he is wrong they are not going to overrule it. Shot was released with around .03seconds on clock. Thats a snap of a finger. Its a coin flip IMO on the call. Instant replay would have been wonderful but they did not have it. We on the other hand get to watch it over and over again and judge them on it. Ain't life grand! :popcorn:

I was there and it was a toss up 3 for it not counting and 2 saying it should have. The shot happened with .03 seconds. Thats a coin flip everytime with human error involved. Replay would have been the only way besides the 50/50 to have gotten this 100% correct!

I think i have read a post somewhere on here where we as a collective group liked officials who talked to the players and tried to help educate them in the rules of the game instead of blowing everything and having a bad attitude about. This post has turned into a menu at a resturant. I like this but i do not like that. Ultimately, officials, like coaches, like everyone posting on this site are people. We all make mistakes and we all bring our own personalities to everything we do...including these posts! What is consistent to one is not consistent to another. What is a foul to one is not a foul to another. If we had robots calling the games we would find something to complain about because you know what...were human. As far as the franklin county vs Henry Clay game goes..weve all seen the video. The shot was released with around .03 seconds. Thats faster than a snap of a finger. When you limit such a situation to a human being making a judgment decision you get just that. Human error. It sucks but you move on. I have not even finished reading the posts here yet and my "personality" is already on fire!

Its David versus Golliath IMO. Sooner or later the giant falls but until then there is no use complaining that Mason keeps winning. They have been fortunate to get the talent there over the last few years. They also have a strong tradition of doing well by coaches and players. Good luck to both teams tonight

I have heard something, I'm sure its a rumor, of the Jessamine County schools coming back to the 11th. It makes sense location wise but then that would leave the 12 region down 2 teams. I know this pops us every year but I have heard more about it this year than most.

Lexington Catholic has shown all year they can play as a team, move the ball for open looks and play solid defense. Scott County often looks sluggish and plays more of a one-on-one game. This score does not surprise and should hopefully be a wakeup call for Scott County!

Whats up with Bourbon County and Paris? They seem to be down huge over the last few years!

Lafayette is tough but can get out of control and showy. If GRC can keep them off the boards and taking quick shots, even without Stenzel, look for GRC to take this one.

They are playing well and will be tough for whomever they meet in district or region!

I wonder was district you officiated in. I have never seen this from the BBA as a coach or a ref. I'm sure there may be one or two out there but I do not think anyone ever verbally talked about ratings. As for talking about coaches/players...this is done at all levels...high school, college, and even the pros. Just like referees get certain reputations, so do coaches and players. Its a part of the game IMO. Coaches scout and try to know the other teams personel. Refs do as well as they get coaches and teams more and more often. For example: if I knew a coach liked to complain about calls a lot i would talk about it with my partners. Usually my advice was answer questions not statements. I would also say if that particular coach got too bad that we would need to warn him early. As a coach now, I would prefer the refs talk about me and about my coaching style. Especially for guys/girls who may not of had me.

I have to say in 20 years of being around basketball in KY I have seen some questionable calls but I cannot remember ever seeing a game and thinking a referee cheated. If I even thought that I would be sending a tape to either the assigner or KHSAA to be reviewed. I think most coaches would do the same as well.:eek:
