Dixie Heights 4 Cooper 2
^Lawhorn, Doelman, Hathorn. I believe due to the 4-5 errors that all 4 runs were unearned. Cooper continues to leave too many men on base as well. Collins should be back in the line-up soon in the clean-up spot and should help big time, along with his glove in the field. It's getting close to the time in the season that Beiger has figured out who can play and where and I still believe once they get their "main" line-up in place that they can compete in a one game scenario with anyone in NKY. Now they just have to show it on the field.

Who are the Top 5 Pitchers thus far in the 9 Region?
I will take Verlander and very little defense .. When Cooper's starters are in their place they play fairly solid defense. They just seem to have that one game here and there where they all stink at once but then they will go 3-4 games with hardly any errors. The coaches have been getting everyone playing time as several are new to Varsity and they have to see what they have.

Who's the Best Hitter in the 9th region so far
I'm not sure if this was the case or not but last year Nick was in the biggest mental funk I have ever seen and this year he is flat out confident and killing the ball. Baseball is a very mental game and some kids mature earlier than others and if a player continues to use excuses then he will never reach his potential. The player has to "block out" distractions and just play hard and focused. In this case, if Nick did let the "coach get in his head" (which I'm not sure that was the case) then he has matured and just played hard and is doing great. Keep it up Nick, I'm for one pulling for you!!

Why I'll Always Be A Reds Fan
Awesome. I don't want to thread jack but it's along the same lines of Reds personnel going above and beyond. I was listening to Bill Cunningham a couple days ago and he had the Madeira (I believe) coach on there congratulating him on his 400th win and asked the coach if the school or BOE was doing anything to recognize him. He said they would probably announce him at a football game or something. He said he just loves to coach for the kids, etc.. Bill called the Reds on live radio and talked to a lady in communtity affairs to see if they would let the coach throw out the first pitch at a game. The lady couldn't have been more pleasant on the phone and said she would call him as soon as they hung up to set up a date, etc..

Conner 10 Covington Catholic 7
Krumps is always vocal when his team is losing or not playing well. He gets alot of leeway since he's been there 30 plus years where other coaches not so much. IMO he has earned some leeway, you either like his style or you don't. Arlo can definately relate to "todays" player. He is relaxed and lets his players play. He doesn't seem to get all riled up over poor play and I'm sure he handles those situations "in house" versus erupting from the dugout. I believe that is one reason his teams always seem to play better at the end of the year even though they may struggle early and the overall record may not be as good as others. I know my son enjoys being around Arlo in the summer and thinks highly of him.

Conner 10 Covington Catholic 7
It seems like Conner "owns" Cov Cath. I know Maines has won 2-3 times against them over the last couple of years. Did Padgett start? Hope Fogle gets healed and stays healthy.

Scott 8 Bishop Brossart 5
I thought in the prediction thread it mentioned Kyle was suspended. I heard he was out a week but not sure why.

Cooper 5 Beechwood 3
I may have seen a first in the first inning for Cooper. I believe Cooper walked two, had three errors and a bases loaded balk but still only gave up the one run. Beechwood returned the favor with a couple errors of their own when Cooper scored 5 in the 6th. The wind was blowing "in" very hard and a couple high fly balls caused havoc.

Conner 6 Covington Catholic 4
I received a text with this score so no details other than I heard Maines and Davis were the starting pitchers. The 33rd is tough. Congrats to Conner.

Ryle 7 Cooper 2
I hope I get this correct protocol. Congrats to Ryle who made the plays and deserved to win the game. (I congratulated the winning team) Keys to game (or excuses if you prefer as I don't care either way ) Cooper had 8 errors allowing 6 unearned runs (by my book in my head). Cooper had two inning's where the first batter was at 2nd with no outs and both make base running mistakes and get thrown out. Coopers #4 hitter was not there. Again, Ryle made the plays and are a solid team. The 33rd is going to be a bear. Now, the rest of you can have at it as I'm encouraged by the outcome tonight against the only unbeaten team in NKY giving all of my excuses above.

Predictions?????
I will go with Conner, Cooper, Boone and Holy Cross.

Highlands 14 Covington Catholic 6 (Frosh)
Be careful, there are about 15 excuses in there. Some people get offended. :thumb:

Predictions?????
In High School ball, pitching is even more valuable so without the pitching match-ups it just a wild guess.

Surprising Teams 2013
^But Ryle and Cov Cath were not in the same District. I agree with you for the most part thought. High School kids generally don't learn enough from one outing against a pitcher but the very few smart hitters that actually think the game may pick up on something. From Cooper's standpoint I would not throw Dunn in a non-district seed game as I do think it gives them the best chance to win a game the first time someone sees him. Ryle is undefeated and should be #1-#2 at worst in the polls and it would be a nice regular season win for the boys if they could get it but it is not the important game of the season. Ryle has built a successful program and always has very solid teams that get to the region often. This year will be Cooper's best chance in their five year existence and it will still be a very tough battle to get there.

Cooper 2 Covington Catholic 1 (JV)
This is the score that was given to us through the grapevine while we were at the varsity game so I have no details other than Cooper's pitchers first name was Hunter. What are the odds of two kids named Hunter getting wins on the same day versus Cov Cath? Congrats to the younger Jag's.

Dixie Heights 9 Conner 8
Conner often has some early struggles but Arlo always seems to have them ready when it counts. If I'm a Conner fan, I'm not concerned.

Cooper 4 Covington Catholic 1
TOG, you are reaching here for sure. First off, I congratulated HC on the win but 2 very blatant errors that were not even in question was the results of those runs and he said it was the info someone gave him. I wish I had a replay of the E9 in this game because I was obstructed by other fans on the first base side and only see the kid making a long run for it. There were Cov Cath fans saying it was a hit so I wasn't sure how it would be ruled. The paper had Collins with 2 hits and I think he was the one who hit that one but not sure. Anyway, no double standards here. I call them as I see them, as do you.:thumb:

Cooper 4 Covington Catholic 1
Dunn didn't seem to throw many pitches last Saturday so he had rest. No way you throw Dunn versus Ryle or Conner in non-district game so the other option was throwing him Saturday versus Cov Cath. Correct on Saturday's rematch probably being totally different as it will be Cooper's 6th game in 6 days even with today's off day so pitching will be something that Cov Cath should put in play so defense will have to be sharp. Collin's has an injury he's dealing with so he won't be pitching for a while, and won't be there Saturday. So while Cooper has a lot of pitchers, after current #2 or #3, it is more reliant on defense for sure.

Cooper 4 Covington Catholic 1
Also a big shout out to Jason Doerman. He relieved Dunn after Dunn plucked the first batter in the 6th. Doermann is probably Cooper's number 7 pitcher as far as "stuff" but he throws strikes and that's what he did and the defense was there to assist. Great job Jason!

Cooper 4 Covington Catholic 1
Cooper left a lot of runners on base in the first 5 inning's. Great job by Dunn on the mound tonight. Are runs unearned if they are walks? I'm not sure of the rule and I don't remember many errors tonight but then again I don't keep a book as I like to talk and walk. Great seeing some Cov Cath dads from summer ball. Cov cath very solid as well.

Ryle 7 Boone County 1
Was this the district seed game?
-
Cooper 14 Carroll County 1
Carroll County didn't play their best this day but it is the same team that beat HHS earlier and HHS has been better than I thought they would be.
-
Campbell County 21 Cooper 12 (Frosh)
This game was played after the Varsity and it had to be difficult weather (cold) to play in. The first post says "misplays" were taken advantage of so I assume a number of errors. There were throwing errors in the varsity as well and the Conner/Boone varsity box score showed 9 errors in that game so it sounds like a rough night all around the area. The young Jag's have a solid team so I'm sure they will bounce back.

Brandon Hatton Update
My son just turned 18 last week and I know Brandon is about 6-7 weeks younger so he will be 18 soon but not yet. Either way, he is legal to play through his high school years so no big deal.
