Anybody know about any sleeper teams this year. So far Boone Co. and St. Henry have impressed me. As well as Beechwood. Anyone else have any opinions?

From what i just read in the "Beechwood 8 Scott 4 Thread" this Beechwood team seems great. I've seen the JV twice and they were great, and only seen Varsity once. I guess i caught a bad day because what i'm reading, Beechwood is scary now and will be ridiculous in the next years.

Ryle is going to make a strong run this year. Seemed to have been overlooked in the early polls. This is one very, very deep team with plenty of pitching.

There are a lot of inter-district games coming up..... let the chips fall...... exciting times!

Yes, I do. 7th in a local poll is not a particularly high ranking. I think they are one of the top 2 or 3 teams in the region. But polls mean nothing and time will tell. They get CCH, Conner, and Cooper this weekend in the Knochelman and that should tell us something.

They were #3 in the pre season coaches poll. How is that being overlooked?

Dylan Plvan hit his second HR of the season, and Thomas Baumann added a triple. Josh Bellew went the distance for the shutout victory. Ryle is now 6-0 on the season and knocking on the door of the PBR Power 25.

You have to be suprised with Ryle. I thought that they would be pretty good but to be (I think) the only undefeated team in NKY is pretty impressive. Does anyone else have less than 2 losses?

Beechwood and Cooper have 2 losses, with one of Cooper's losses being to Beechwood.

 

Nice match up Friday night when Cooper and Ryle face each other.

Maybe they won't throw their respective aces, but everything else will be for real and they'll both be gunning hard for wins. And if I had to guess, if it's Ryle's ace's (Hoard) turn to throw that game, he will.

 

I constantly hear people say that teams won't show their ace in a non-district/non-conference game, but I've seen it happen time and time again. I recall a couple years ago Ryle and CCH played in the last game of the season right before district tournament - CCH pitched Isler (ace) and Ryle pitched Etscheid (ace). Sometimes it's actually nice to see how your ace's pitching style matches up against another team's hitters. I've never really bought into the "hide your ace until the right moment" philosophy. Pitchers make adjustments; hitters make adjustments. It's all part of the game.

^But Ryle and Cov Cath were not in the same District. I agree with you for the most part thought. High School kids generally don't learn enough from one outing against a pitcher but the very few smart hitters that actually think the game may pick up on something. From Cooper's standpoint I would not throw Dunn in a non-district seed game as I do think it gives them the best chance to win a game the first time someone sees him. Ryle is undefeated and should be #1-#2 at worst in the polls and it would be a nice regular season win for the boys if they could get it but it is not the important game of the season. Ryle has built a successful program and always has very solid teams that get to the region often. This year will be Cooper's best chance in their five year existence and it will still be a very tough battle to get there.
