I think that Charlotte Court deserves some respect and attention. There kids are always competitive and they look for situations to help them out when they are not playing. Three or four of their ballers are going to Vegas with other programs. There 16U team won the silver division at the Addias Take 5, and the 15U team won the Championship at the Mississippi Summer Jam this past week in Jackson, MS. The staff/coaches for the CC do an outstanding job and they are definitely in it for the right reason. -
Best PG next year?
realfanreturns replied to Log Mountain Boy's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I agree with most of what the two of you are suggesting. And I did happen to watch Fucci play this past weekend, no doubt he is one of the best PG and players this year. He will still look even better with Barksdale back on the floor. The reason I said that TC was Barksdale's team was that he carried them when Fucci was out last year and IMO he is more of an offensive threat. From the stand point of him being the PG he is an outstanding floor general. -

Someone want to share on some 12th region news. I hear there is a chance that J. Polson may leave WJ for Lex. Cath. They lost yeasterday to Harlan, guess they have not gotten use to the new Coach yet at WJ. I hear that Watts and Polson both appeared to be true to form. I hear that Corbin smashed Rock? Rumor has it that the Townsend kid at SHS had a solid tour. Anyone see him play? Lets get some 12th Region chatter going. -
Best PG next year?

I agree with you to a point, but Fucci has the luxuary of having Barksdale on the floor at the same time big advantage. Barksdale may be making him better. Polson does not have that quality of player on his team to help him and he still have a very strong showing all last season all the way through their performance in the sweet 16. Not taking anything away from Fucci, but he was hurt some last year and I seen the TC - SC game over xmas, TC is Barksdale's team. SC won the game but he kept them in it. With that being said i do think that Fucci is one of the Top PG's this year, hard to say who the best is. -
2009 KY AAU State High School Boys pool play
realfanreturns replied to mcraycraft's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
There does appear to be some good games out there. Somerset starts off with a nice challenge or should i say test againt one of Lex's best. I hear that Barksdale is out for a few more weeks. TC will still test SHS mental toughness. SHS a pretty young team and TC has a vetern squad and a very sound PG in Ryan Fucci (Sp). Be interesting to see how the Townsend kid meets this challenge. I look for him to step up to the plate, this is a big test in his young development. -

Spear to SW that is a new one, i have heard that he had made threats but last rumor i heard Kenny was hired as the 6th grade coach (maybe 7th grade). Can anyone confirm this move. I knew about Griffith and the Halls. Kind of funny you mention that Coach Thacker was the glue that held the ship together. You are right Coach Daniel will take whats left and do a fine job. I just want to know what these people think the outcome is going to be for their children. They do realize that SW and PC has student/athletes of their own. Do these parent beleive that these kids are going to SW to start over the FAB five. Then you still have some upper classmen and some solid players (Justin S) that was part of the ms team. You have the same situation at PC. Last time i checked you can only put 5 on the floor at one time and there is only one ball to go around. I guess the positive thing about this is that those Megargel, Chevrount, Lange, and McWilliams will have an opporuntity to build their skills and there should not be any fighting for minutes. And Maybe some of those sophmores will get a chance to develop on the JV, since there are not many kids left below them to take minutes away. All this could end up being a blessing for SHS. -

So Yeast is going after Springate to strengthen the Mercer County Progam huh? I have never understood why they did not try and get him back at Boyle County they have had opporutnities. All right 12th Regioners, if Polson and Watts are the top two players in the region who else would be in your top ten? Looks like someone has a plug out there for Dunagan. -

Looks as if the team that you thought you would have hear coming up in the future, based on your past post, has been dismantled. Seem to have taken some big hits over the past two seasons. Goins now at PC, Thacker - Rowan County, Gover - PC, Laign brothers - PC, rumor has it the Dishman brothers is going to SW. Can someone explain what happened here. I guess we know why Gover left but what about the other six? -

After watching WJ and Polson play, the 12 region title will not just be handed over to McCreary and Watts, they will have to earn it. Watts team will have to learn how to let him be the leader much like WJ does. When Jarrod needs to score or get to the line to get the team on track the team understand, they don't care if he shoots ten times in a row. I am not sure that Watts gets that same type of response from the guys around him. In the 12 region finals Watts disappeared until late in the 4th quarter, in those big games he will have to be assertive and impose his will on the competitors. -
Who will win the 12th Region?
realfanreturns replied to Big Blue Nation's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
My coins are on McCreary Co. They hit a rough spot there a couple of weeks ago but I beleive they have played out of that. With that said there does appear to be a lot of parity in the region this year with no clear front runner. -

realfanreturns replied to mcpapa's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
The 12th Region has looked tight this year, but I beleive that McCreary will be the team to beat. Average Joe, I am glad you are supporting them but wanted you to know that last years exit was not due to Watts trying to do to much. Try not and put the kind of comments you did the kids read this and it might create issues that might not be there. I am sure Coach Jones was speaking to that AD in a private conversation that may not have been ment to get back to his team. -

I looked at the box scores and he is not listed. He must have not played. Is he hurt? I thought they would win this game also. Congrats to Barksdale he is having a great season. -
12th Region Freshman

12th Region Freshman
realfanreturns replied to warrior_69's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
If I miss interpreted what you were saying I do apologize. As I read those sections in your statement it just seems to me you seem to be focused in a particular area. My Bad. Just making sure we are not putting the cart before the mule. There are 3 or 4 kids besides Townsend in that freshman group that may end of being contributors in a couple of years to the varsity program. If not hopefully Spencer, Tyler, Sunshine or some other eighth grader is ready to step up. I excluded Gover on purpose he is already dressing Varsity. -
12th Region Freshman
realfanreturns replied to warrior_69's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I agree but it appears he is also interested in the development of the kids on that team itself. Your comments seem to ignore the freshman playing and want to focus on the one freshman playing up (Townsend), one eighth grader playing (Gover) and some kids still in MS (not playing Freshman yet). Alex and Taylor G are doing a good job leading the freshman team. Nate, Taylor S, Jarrod, and Austin are improving. From what I have observed there is not any other eighth graders who besides Spencer who could actually help. But then he would take minutes from his brother. The way it is now both are maximizing their minutes. Also Alex, Jarrod, Taylor and Austin are getting valuable playing time. One thing Coach says is you don't know which little duckling will become the next "Swann" of the group. (Physical growth, maturity, desire and opportunity all factors in development) -
12th Region Freshman
realfanreturns replied to warrior_69's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I don't think you are giving them a fair assessment if you are just judging them by their record. This is a freshman team that has never really played together, and they are playing in a new system. Three of the kids who started on the 8th grade team last year are not with this team. This team will struggle this year to find points, but they are improving. I beleive Coach Daniel is looking at the big picture (player development) and is not focused on how many games they win in a developmental league. In HS there is only one record that matters. -
12th Region: What's new?
realfanreturns replied to SouthernSportsFan's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
That is pretty low expectations, their district does not appear to be so tough that they won't be able to compete. -

What is the common perception of what the Jumpers will look like under the new coach with a new system? Everyone seems to be staying away from that team with there comments. -
Pulaski County's Chris Muse
realfanreturns replied to The Scribe's topic in KY Football (High School)
I think you may have ment to say not in basketball. Which is probabley the weakest of 3 he has chosen to play, but he still gives you a solid performance, due to his mental toughness and his competitive attitude. I do agree that with his athletic ability, and quickness, if he were to grow another couple of inches his best chances of D1 may be in football. Many football scouts look for athletes first, they can get you in a position. -
Pulaski County's Chris Muse
realfanreturns replied to The Scribe's topic in KY Football (High School)
Chris appears to be an outstanding young man, student, and athlete. Kid has the potential to be good in 4 HS sports if he wants. I think he has given up baseball, but baring any injury he will be a year around story in the Pulaski County area. Expect him to have another very successfull football season, followed by an consistent level of performance on the hardwood, and then dominate his region in the long jump, triple jump, 110H and 300H. You know what they say about walking like a duck and talking like a duck..... -
Euton/Jackson Appeals
realfanreturns replied to Log Mountain Boy's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I beleive that KHSAA rules need to be amended when dealing with transfers. The way they read they hurt more student athletes than they intend to. In this case yes the Dad said some things in the media he should not have said. Let's think about this for a minute, if someone was moving from another state and looking for a school and they had kids that plays sports or maybe is strong in band, do you not think they should look at more than just the academic side. Or would you suggest they just move and let the chips fall where they may. Any normal person is going to shop around for a school district that fits there needs before they move. So tell me what is the difference (just asking). If these kids had a legitimate change of address, and no one from Scott County can be proven to have actively recruited these kids then let them play. Just my opinion. -
Somerset 2008/2009
realfanreturns replied to gold sunrise's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
SHS has a lot of things to overcome to allow the young talent they have to develop into the competitive group that they have been groomed to become. There still appears to be a lot of inner circle issues that I know that some hope will be resolved with a new coach. The potential is there, but the programs support system is not as strong as it needs to be. -
The politics are exactly what they need to avoid and what many of the people don't want. Politics is what gets the parents involved. The coaches available from within this community comes with ties that make it hard to do an effective job. That is what sets the parents up to coach. Someone from the outside will atleast come in with an open mind and evaluate from what he sees. It is a good thing we all have opinions, what do you know that is so bad about the Rowan coach. He seems to be very knowledgeable, I have heard he works some of the camps in the summer so he is around talent. One more time best advice possible - hire someone from outside the SHS community.
