I'm not going to say that internal causes have no effect on Lexington schools, but I think your being a little harsh on them. I think all 6A schools are "up against it" in terms of competing for a championship, Lexington schools especially. For one thing X and T are that good and we have probably +100 threads explaining why. But also they don't get the benefit that Louisville schools have had with open enrollment. I'm a big believer in open enrollment for creating great schools that kids who want to succeed can go to, however open enrollment makes winners and losers. In Louisville you have "winner" programs and los... "not winner" programs. In Lexington you get a changing carousel of talent from schools with no single public school maintaining constant talent levels. If Lexington were to have open enrollment I strongly believe that they would field a team that would be stronger traditionally than what we are accustomed to. I think the fact that they are the second largest city is somewhat irrelevant to the conversation because they primarily play vs the largest city within 6A competition.

Before I straight out call you a liar. I would say you are on dangerous ground with what you are saying. Unquestionably Manual is the most difficult school to get into in Jefferson Co. I would throw in the following, there are two programs in Manual that require non traditional skills to get in, those being YPAS and the VA program. So if they show skill in music art or acting they can get into those programs without being a straight A student. I would also wonder what year you are talking, up until a year ago Manual was having a hard time with fitting the old racial quota and I understand exceptions were made in order to fit the old quotas. I would also challenge what ever school you support to equal Manual in academic achievement.

Manual seats 11,000, and they typically have filled up for bigger games like vs Trinty, StX, and Male. I would suppose that the crowd would be big to make a tight fit but still enough to play the game in historic Manual Stadium.

Manual is a good KY team, and one of the bigger programs in the state. Scheduleing like this will only make them better.

That is ignorant statement in many regards. First of all Central's record vs teams mentioned in the last two years is 1-3. Central has also had a very strong streak of talent run through its program recently, which makes a difference. Three or four D-1 prospects have come out of Central, about as many as have come out of the the four four you mentioned combined. I'll try not to be baited to much into the last statement, but you reveal a lot about yourself with it.

I'll throw out following Busing and the magnet programs, while offering a better educational environment in many circumstances, eliminate the sense of community within a school, and the school with in the community. Most 6A contenders are city schools. The private schools have the religious community from which to draw from. You make it sound real easy, to "the entire school community to rally behind that coach and support/promote the program every day of the week" but when the only people who give a darn are the players parents and coaches, it means you have a lot less to work. Something should be said for the impact of having a Trinity and St X in your area. They are magnets to people interested in football. I would say half of the football interested people in Jefferson Co are drawn to two schools T and X and the the public get the other half to (unevenly) divide over more than 15 schools. In my opinon one of the saddest things about the size of X and T and the impact of what they do in the community, is how many good football players never get to see thier potential on the feild. More freshman talent will quit either the X or T freshman teams then many public schools will have on there freshman teams. To make the point a little more simple they suck in and spit out more talent than most schools see. With the numbers let me put the following into perspective. The difference in boys between the Trinty and Dunbar (the highest public school) is still bigger than the population difference between most classes in the state. For example there is less difference between Central and Manual in boys than there is between Manual and St X but Central is 3A and Manual is 6A.

This was the case when Manual wasn't good at football either, it has everything to do with academics.

Congratulations Bell. Also congrats to Bullitt East, they certainly didn't allow a blowout like so many predicted.

For sake of accuracy Manual did not lose to or play Eastern, they lost to Ballard, a team they had already beaten earlier in the season, the regular season rematch was due to the windstrom that forced teams to make changes to there schedule.

I thought I heard a rumor that Manual will be playing Trinity again in the near future, someone correct me if I'm wrong. As JV is concerned I agree with you on the potential it has to build your team. I would make the statement that X and T have more to work with in this regard. Both in terms of numbers and in terms of numbers of coaches. I will admit that I don't know who dictates the number of coaches at a public school, whether it is the school itself or the school district but having fewer coachs makes it more difficult to focus on the JV squad if your also the secondary and special teams coach. I honestly believe that having a larger staff as well as more players both allows and mandates a stronger commitment to JV. "It's up to the Public Schools to make the commitment." While I don't want to imply that this is a false statement, but I don't know that it appreciates all the factors involved. With the conditions the way they are, How would you suggest they make that commitment?

Open enrollment does create an environement where where it is easier for the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer, but that doesn't mean that change can't take place. However the difference in making change has pushed on the adminstrative level to make the Jims and Joes want attend the school. When I went to Manual our first two seasons we went 1-9, but the coaching staff put a lot of work into the program to legitimize it in terms of professionalism and resources. Now Manual gets the good players and has been a top team for a good while. So what I'm saying is that open enrollment does make have and have nots, and it is difficult and slow to change, but change is possible.

The numbers are not the only reason they are good. But numbers to provide the reason that they belong in a class separate from nearly every other school in the state. I personally don't want to see that. But it does make that arguement.

The top ten Louisville school smoke the top ten NKY. But all but one of the Louisville schools is 6A, in NKY it is spread out in smaller classes.

Central has been legitimately better the last two seasons, they had a coaching change which has produced great results. Fairdale doesn't normally factor in to the top 10 of Louisville schools.

For debate's sake help me fill out the Louisville vs NKY side. I think I havv all of Louisville but I have no clue how I am on NKY. For Louisville I'm only going to include Jefferson Co teams although an arguement can be made for teams like Bullitt East Shelby Co the Oldham Co schools to be in that mix but I won't include them. How would a NKY team do vs the following schedule Desales PRP Fern Creek Ballard Central Eastern Male Manual St X Trinity Maybe Highlands would have a winning record, but I don't see anyone else breaking .500.

vs Butler 48-13W (6A Butler struggled this season winning only two games late in the season but against tough competition) vs DeSales 0-14L (DeSales, one of the "other" Louisville catholic schools, much smaller than St X or Trinity and on the other end of town, they do benifit from the same middle school league as X and T, they had a strong season going 10-3 but mostly played lesser competition.) vs Bulliet Central 27-30L (Bullit Central is a 6A school that posted a respectable 8-3 record but lost most of there big games with the exception of this one.) vs Henderson 14-50L (This was the worst loss for Bulliet East this season. Not to say a 7-4 Henderson wasn't a strong team from the 6A class, but a 5TD loss is a blight on anyones record. It is worth mentioning that this was a switched game due to the windstorm in Louisville causing Jefferson Co teams to not play, Mount Washington although in Bullitt Co is basically a Louisville suburb and I can't say whether the lasting effects of the storm did or did not have an effect on the team, but I could see where it may caused distraction) vs Marion Co 13-10W (Marion Co had a strong record at 9-3 with two of those losses coming from Bullitt East. Nothing about Marion Co's competition blows me away, but 9 wins is 9 wins) vs Fairdale 35-40L (Fairdale is a 4A Louisville school who usually has a handful of athletes. 6-5 Fairdale was looking respectable but took a late season nose dive losing the last three games of the season) vs North Bullitt 17-14W (North Bullitt went 8-5 this season dropping two games to the Chargers. North Bullitt's only win of significance was Layfayette in the begining of the season) vs Larue Co 22-19W (District opponet was Larue 4-7 and not a real strong opponet.) vs Manual 23-24L in double overrtime (I would consider this a good loss for Bullitt East. 10-3 Manual is at the top of "the rest of 6A" outside of St X and Trinity, and was the best team Bullitt East faced this season and from the look at the schedule appears to be the turning point for the Chargers season) vs Nelson Co 51-14W (A big win against the last of five 6A opponets that Bullitt East played. Nelson Co went 4-7 with most there wins vs lesser opponets, but short of St X Bullitt East gave them there worst loss) Playoff vs Atherton 63-6W (2-10 Atherton is in perpetual rebuilidng phase, the amount of the wins is really meaningless as Atherton simply isn't competitive) Playoff vs Marion Co 35-7W (rematch see above) Playoff vs North Bullitt 26-7W (rematch see above) Playoff vs Calloway Co 52-49W (11-3 Calloway Co averaged 37 points a game on offense and Bullitt East did little to stop them, but they did out score them with there third game of over 50 points in the season. I don't personally know all that much about football that far west and can't speak as to there schedule but they won a lot of games. Some points I would make. Bullitt East played up five times during the regular season, further more they have traditionally played many of the Louisville schools, if not during the season during the preseason in scrimmages. I don't think they come in in awe of Bell Co. Bullitt East's opponets were a combined 98-70, Bell's opponets were nearly (I have an incomplete tenn team record of 2-7) 74-79. Bell played up twice and played down on three occasions. The tone of the posters seems to point to a Bell Co blow out, while I wouldn't be suprised if they won, I think Bullitt East is far better seasoned than they realize.
