I wonder if you guys had the same crew from Lexington we had at a game. If so :lol:. The crew we had got ran out of there, I don't think they knew the rules. Sad thing was we got the majority of the "bad calls" in that game. Any way congrats to Highlands. :thumb:

I'd honestly hit interstate because I hate both routes you described. Interstate to Lexington (75 maybe?) Interstate 64 to Ashalnd. Seems faster to me. That said not many would do it that way. Double A would probably be the most common response I'd imagine I'd say I will be.

I don't like it. I played at the high school in middle school, and I think it forces you to grow up way too quick. I don't really think it helps your game that much either. A kid that is good is going to be good if they have talent, coaching, & work. Playing up does nothing in the long run IMO. Its is a quick advantage but when the player gets to be a JR or SR I don't think it helps that much.

No respect at all for Ashland? They've been pretty good this year, I'd be shocked if they don't give CCH a game if not more. I couldn't see it getting that bad.

I can't wait for this game. Unless something happens, I'm going to try my best to be at this game.

How do you guys feel about the way Wilt Chamberlain scored 100? Is his 100 any less honorable?

I get that. I don't agree with the tactics, but I hate it for Jude that his record has an asterisk beside it for many people. Maybe no other coach has been accused of going to such extremes to get a record, but I don't see one record that I would feel confident was completely done without playing that player in times when he should/could have been out.

Exactly. That is something no one talks about on here. Find me one career record in this state that alot of the yards, points, touchdowns etc. were not scored against inferior opponents in games that were already out of hand.

This wraps up a great season for Lewis County. Even though this game did not goes as they hoped, they have had a season for the ages. It may not mean much to the LC faithful right now, but congrats on a wonderful season LC Lions. Congrats to Powell on advancing to 2nd round.

My thing is that when a team that doesn't usually make the playoffs actually does, it is great for their community. Having graduated from West Carter, it was a huge deal when the team made the playoffs for the first time this decade, and I believe it has helped build the football program. I'm sure Kevin Brown would tell you the same thing. Maybe they're are not Trinity or Highlands, but it does give people in the community hope that the program can continue to get better. Being at East Carter now, it would be huge for our guys to get to the playoffs next year. It would help our program out tremendously. It would be great for our community, which has had its share of problems. Being in a 4 team district means nothing as far as playoff births go, but in larger districts it is a big deal for programs that are trying to move in the right direction. Powerful teams get a week to get everyone healthy, get experience for guys further down on the depth chart that will definitely be needed for a long playoff run, and the really young guys get a taste of the playoff experience. 4 teams making it in per district probably do not mean much to the state powers, but I think they help everyone else out so much. Do most 4 seeds not want to go to the playoffs, even if they have to play Highlands? I know West was happy as heck to go to play Mason or Belfry in the first round, even if it was going to be a tough game.

Does it really hurt anything to have 4 teams make it in? Maybe ones vs. 4s isn't that exciting but I can see benefits for both. I would do away with the 4 team district though. No one should get an automatic playoff bid IMO.

I hope they hold on to the top spot.

Why in the world is it classless to onside kick down by half a hundred points? Even if its against younger kids its good experience for the return team as well.

I think their shotgun formation gives them a little better look pass wise, but I don't think the Devils will ever be airing it out. I think playing both QBs may be something Russell will look into for the rest of the season, its two totally different looks back there.

Is Russell's spread really a spread? Seemed like another way to run the Wing-T to me.

I think a part of it is that in middle school and lower levels a team can get by with athleticism, or athleticism makes a bigger difference. If you have the fastest kid in your league, you have a good shot of being really successful. Athleticism plays a huge part in the high school game, but fundamentals, scheme, execution, work ethic are bigger parts of the equation in each higher level of football. You also have philosophical differences. Different programs focus on different things at their youth levels. Obviously we would all love for all of our school teams to win, but I would much rather have the players in my system learn the fundamentals, learn to love the game, and send tons of players to high school that understand football than have teams that never lost a game if I were a head coach. I think off-season work also makes a bigger difference in high school. Weight-lifting, spring ball, summer work-outs, pre-season practice can all dramatically effect the success or failure of a high school football team. I don't think weight lifting at youth levels makes much difference in the product on the field, though obviously it can better prepare players for high school when they can really begin to build and shape their bodies. I think the community also plays a huge role. In places where the youth level programs are successful, yet the high school is not I would guess that community support is not that high in many cases. What I mean by that is that it would be parents supporting their kids, and little else. Obviously the community helps with younger levels of football, but I believe that to sustain long-term success at the high school level the community has to buy in and be willing to support the high school program no matter who is on the field. JMO.

Perhaps that is because at Trinity it is a meaningless record to some. For a school in the mountains with an inconsistent football tradition, it would be nice for the whole community to have the state's all-time leading rusher be from their school.

I'm not defending the video or the kid's actions completely, but it is a rap song. Its going to be vulgar. Have you ever met or talked to any of the players in the video? Are you around many high schoolers, because many talk like this and about things like that without really meaning it? I'm not condoning the video or what was said, but I don't think its time to burn these kids at the stake. They made a mistake in making the video and putting it on the internet, and I'm sure someone may find a way to save it and it could be embarrassing for these kids for a long time. But why beat a dead horse, unless you really don't want them to play against Russell? Addressing this repeatedly is a disservice to Fairview, who just beat their rival and basically won the district championship and who the thread is really about.
