You are absolutely correct about the intimidation factor of playing Corbin at Corbin. Its been quite a while since I have been there, but, having played there more than once, I can tell you that it was a scary place to play. That alone had to be worth a TD or more. When I was in school, a discussion of HS football wouldnt be complete without mentioning Corbin.

Im from SE Ky, but I would have to say Gallatin County. For a second year varsity program, what they have done is really something! Congratulations to Coach Browning and his staff, the players, and the fans of Gallatin County.

6 to 5 and pick em! This should be a very interesting game. And correct me if Im wrong but, regardless of who wins, these 2 will have to play again in the playoffs. Correct? The only thing this game determines is where the playoff game will be played, which is big!

I'll take Harlan in this one but they had better come ready to play. Jenkins is much improved and it is a hard place to play.

This game messed up my picks in the Harlan Daily Enterprise's Gridiron Guru contest. I was 14 out of 15 and got the tie breaker as well but, I took Knox Central over South. Was this an upset? Anyway, congrats to South. Keep up the good work!!

Gallatin is not in my area so Im not really familiar with them but, Im really amazed at the success they are having for a second year football program. People are talking about making the schedule harder when most schools, at this time in their progression, are talking about trying to win a single game. Congratulations to the Gallatin people and enjoy what your team is doing now. At the rate they are progressing, Gallatin will be playing all the teams that you want in the near future.

Congratulations to Coach Reynolds and the Skins. We would sure like for you to get Harlan County a win over Hazard next week. Keep your head up Harlan. Im a firm believer that if you keep working, good things will happen. There's a lot of season left.

There is no reason that the 2 respective coaches for each shouldnt work together to ensure that kids dont have to make a choice. Both coaches have to be reasonable and try to share the athletes. Practices, passing leaques, etc, can be scheduled around each other if the coaches will work together and realize that they are there for the kids...not the kids there for them. I would hope that educated adults have the ability to work together for what is best for the players!

Although I would sure love to see a win by Evarts, this Hazard team is very talented. They arent very deep, as usual, but they put outstanding skill people on the field. I will say that Hazard isnt good enough to overcome a few well-placed turnovers....in other words, I have seen bigger upsets than EHS over HHS. EHS#5, stay positive and stay focused...good luck!!

Lets throw in a win by Evarts over Hazard. See if that helps everyone's headaches.

Its no doubt that Cumberland is the heavy favorite but, just for fun, lets think about what a Harlan win would do to the district standings and playoff positioning. Also, lets throw in a Pineville win over Jenkins....what would that do? HDE, get out your rule book!! All this is hypothetical of course.

By rule the chains have to be on the side opposite the press box. Home side or visitors side doesnt enter into it.

I think Cumberland probably has the advantage personnel wise, but in these rivalry-type games, anything can, and usually does happen. A fumble here, a penalty there, and then you look up and its in the 4th quarter and the favorite is behind....happens all the time. Anyway, good luck to both teams!

Sorry. I see it now. Attendance at the T/X game always amazed me and made me proud of Ky HS football. Im from Eastern Ky, but these programs match up with anyone in the nation. Both represent the state of Ky well.

I knew Evarts would have trouble with Gallatin, but I didnt think it would be Gallatin up 27-0 with 4 minutes left. Good win for the wildcats to go 5-1....congrats to Coach Browning. There is a lot of season left for Coach Canady and Evarts to get the ship righted.

The Harlan paper had him with 188 tds rushing and 4 tds....one td on a KO return. Lynn Camp went up 19-0 and had run 3 offensive plays, one of them a 96 yard run by Joe.

By the time the Hazard/Cland/etc district is settled, it may take Mongolian Calculus to figure out the tie-breaker. But, Hazard does look to be a notch ahead of everyone.

And you are correct about their coach....hes a fine man. Coach Canady was an undersized offensive guard on the Browning/Russell teams. Ovie was a very smart player.

Tim didnt graduate with Russell. He had one more year. I think if you look it up, Tim was 7 of 8 for 187 yards and 2 scores in the opening game of his senior year. The years before with Russell, Kirby, Doug Martin, Terry Snelling, and Joey Hubbs(Im sure I left some out) in the backfield, Evarts may not have thrown it 8 times in a season. Of course, they didnt need to!

You are right. Tim is now the head coach at Gallatin County. Tim threw a pretty ball and was very smart....ran the team well. But, at 6'5" and about 170, he wasnt as mobile as the boy Evarts has now. If you didnt get to, you should seen Tim should the "3" in a gym.
