article 12th Region Week 10 Review

1) Lincoln County (19-6) – The Patriots had two very convincing wins over Southwestern and Garrard County. Riley Bodner went for 19 points and 12 boards in the win over Southwestern. Lincoln faces Danville Christian and Mercer County the first two days of the week before taking on the Admirals of Danville on Friday, their last district regular season matchup of the year. They fell to Danville in overtime on January 10th.

2) Somerset (19-4) – If it had not been for Lincoln County showing pure domination this week over their lesser regional opponents, it would have been hard to drop the Briar Jumpers for a tough loss against North Laurel. Kade Grundy went for 22 in the matchup and Dakota Acey complemented him with 12 points and 9 rebounds. They get back to regional opponents this week with Wayne County and Pulaski County, who they just defeated by 20 on the 28th of January, before finishing this week by hosting Green County.

3) East Jessamine (15 – 7) – East had the week off as the West Jessamine rivalry game has been moved to Valentine’s Day, making their week a little tougher as that game is bookended by Bluegrass United and McCreary County Central. By what I am looking at, the winner of the East-West rematch will get the 1 seed and play Burgin and the loser will have to face off with Mercer County to make it to the regional.

4) Pulaski County (19 – 5) – Pulaski County had a win over Mercer County by 10 last week. They face off against their two city rivals this week. First, they travel to see the Briar Jumpers who recently dispatched them by 20 at home. The second game is another quick road trip, this time to Southwestern who they prevailed over on January 17th by 5. Somerset and Pulaski both look destined to face each other again in the district finals, albeit Rockcastle County and Casey County will have something to say about that.

5) West Jessamine (14-9) – West dominated the Rebels of Boyle County in a 94 – 69 win in which Clayton Winter went into beast mode, scoring 23 points and registering 15 rebounds. The Colts travel over to Woodford County before finishing their week in the all-important final regular season matchup against district and city rival East Jessamine.

6) Danville (16 – 8) – The Admirals got revenge on Garrard County with a 67 – 54 win, but fell to Boyle County by 11. They face Model and regional number 1 Lincoln County this week. They defeated Lincoln County by 11 last time. Even though this will be the last district seeding game to be played, the loss to Boyle pretty much assures an Admiral – Rebel meeting in the 2-3 game.

7) Wayne County (17 – 9) – The Cardinals have a 5 game winning streak going after wins over Casey County and McCreary County Central. Their schedule this week consists of 1 game, though it will be the toughest opponent they have faced in a few weeks. They take on the Somerset Briar Jumpers at home on Tuesday. Thomas Spencer recorded 25 points in each of last week’s contests.

8) Boyle County (9– 10) – The Rebel enigma continues. There is no doubt to me that Boyle County has the ability to make a long run into the regional tournament. However, consistency has not been their friend. This was demonstrated last week at they were blown out by the Colts of West Jessamine, only to bounce back and dispatch district rival Danville. They face off against Southwestern, Casey County, and Bryan station this week.

9) Mercer County (13 – 11) – The Titans lost their one game this week to Pulaski County to extend their losing streak to 3. They hope to bounce back this week as they open with Bethlehem at home before taking on Lincoln County and Casey County.

10) Southwestern (13 – 12) – Southwestern fell to the Patriots of Lincoln County by 20. They face Boyle County and Pulaski County this week. Cole Dysinger nearly accounted for half his team’s points against the Patriots, scoring 20 out of 43 for the losing effort.

11) Garrard County (6-16) – Garrard County has experienced a bit of a slide after the big win over Danville. Last week saw the Admirals get their revenge and the Patriots dispatch them in blow out fashion. They face two home school teams this week after their Tuesday night matchup against Casey County.

12) McCreary County Central (8-15) – The Raiders fell to Wayne County by 11 with Brandon Longmire and Alex Heath both scoring 12 in the affair. They host Clinton County before road trips to Williamsburg and East Jessamine.

13) Rockcastle County (6-17) – The Rockets lost to Pineville by 3 in a game in which Will Bishop recorded 16 points and 5 rebounds. They face off against Jackson County and Bell County this week.

14) Casey County (3-22) – Casey County fell to both Wayne County and Model this week. They square off against three regional opponents this week in Garrard County, Boyle County, and Mercer County.

15) Danville Christian (12-10) – Danville Christian went 1 – 2 in their Warrior Classic, defeating June Buchanan but losing to Walden and the Christian Academy of Madison, Indiana. They have road trips this week to Lincoln County and Frankfort Christian before hosting Covington Latin and getting back on the road for Berea.

16) Burgin (3 – 22) – The Bulldogs defeated Frankfort Christian last week, Jackson Qualls leading the way with 12 points. They face off against Powell County, Jackson City, and Walden this week.

17) Kentucky School for the Deaf (0-13) – The Colonels fell to their counterparts from Michigan, North Carolina and Georgia. They have the week off this week before their final two games of the regular season.

Big win for the Bunnies last night over the Maroons. Interesting to see how the last few district match-ups play out. Danville at Lincoln and East Jess at West Jess should be great games. Top Region teams starting to establishing themselves.

Pulaski beat SHS 71-56 last night.
