3rd Region Week 10 Rankings - Eagles Back on Top

1. Ohio County Eagles (20-5) UP 1

Ohio County moves back to the top spot this week by going 3-0 in 3rd Region games this week, including a 23 point win in Breckenridge County on Friday. Hunter Pharis had one of his biggest games of the season, leading the Eagles with 23 points. Ohio also grinded out tough wins against Butler County and Apollo this past week with big games from Tripp Manning and Shane Frady. The Eagles play a pair of 12th district teams this week on the road at Trinity and Edmonson County.

 

2. Owensboro Red Devils (15-9) UP 1

The Devils opened the week with a back and forth home win over Breckenridge County. Owensboro got a total team effort in the win, getting 17 points from Jaiden Greathouse, Rhys Dickenson and Gavin Wimsatt. If Owensboro can hit outside shots, they will be very difficult to beat. On Friday, they outlasted Apollo and won by 10. Greathouse again led the way with 23 points. The Devils continue their difficult schedule this week with home games against Bowling Green and Owensboro Catholic.

 

3. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (15-10) UP 1

The Mustangs continue to climb in the poll, as they have reeled off 7 straight wins, all coming inside the 3rd Region. They got big wins this week over Hancock County, Daviess County and Mclean County on Friday night. The win over Mclean County gives the Mustangs a bye in the 10th district tournament and a spot in the 3rd Region Tournament. Nash Divine continues to impress, averaging 18 points per game thru the win streak. The Mustangs host Breckenridge on Tuesday before traveling to Hopkinsville Friday.

 

4. Breckenridge County Tigers (16-7) DOWN 3

For the first time this season, the Tigers suffered back to back losses. They dropped a back and forth game to Owensboro on Tuesday before getting blown out by Ohio County, at home on Friday. They will look to bounce back with tough road games at Muhlenberg County and Hancock County this week.

 

5. Owensboro Catholic Aces (16-8) SAME

The Aces went 1-1 this past week, losing a tough road game to Madisonville on Tuesday before scoring a district win over Daviess County on Friday. Brian Griffith had 24 in the win over the Panthers. The Aces take to the road this week with road games against Central Hardin, Union County and Owensboro. The Aces can tie Owensboro for the #1 seed in the 9th district with a win.

 

6. Butler County Bears (17-7) SAME

The Bears had a tough week, with two setbacks. They opened the week with a 15 point loss to Adair County and closed the week with a hard fought 6 point loss to Ohio County. They will return home this week with games against Franklin Simpson and Mclean County.

 

7. Mclean County Cougars (14-10) SAME

The Cougars are sliding as of late, losing their last 4. This past week they dropped games to a good Logan County team and Muhlenberg County on Friday. The Muhlenberg County loss means the Cougars are the 3 seed in the 10th district tournament and will face Ohio County in the first round of district. They have road games this week against Daviess County, Butler County and Dawson Springs.

 

8. Edmonson County Wildcats (9-11) SAME

The Cats were off this week, having games canceled due to the flu. They will get back in action this week with games against Caverna, Russellville and Ohio County.

 

9. Hancock County Hornets (9-12) SAME

The Hornets picked up a 15 point win over Trigg County in their only game this week. Freshman Kaleb Keown continues to lead the Hornets in scoring (10.7 ppg) and rebounding (5.2 rpg). They are at Apollo tonight and host Breck in a district game on Tuesday.

 

10. Meade County Greenwaves (8-12) UP 1

The Waves have been playing much better as of late, winning 3 of their last 4 games. They scored wins over Grayson County and Cloverport this past week. Mitchell Dozier led the way with 15 points per game on average this week. Meade plays North Hardin and North Oldham this week.

 

11. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (8-17) UP 1

The Raiders finally ended their long losing streak last week and stayed on the winning side of things this week with a 16 point win over Hopkins Central. They have games against Cloverport, Ohio County and Grayson County this week.

 

12. Apollo Eagles (4-20) UP 2

Apollo is right on the cusp of becoming a solid team. They have been very competitive in close losses to every team in the top 5 of the region as of late. Saturday, they scored a 48 point home win over Union County. They have games this week against Hancock, Henderson and Daviess County.

 

13. Grayson County Cougars (5-18) SAME

The Cougars have lost 12 of 13, including losses this week to Meade County and Henderson County. They will look to stop the bleeding this week with games against Bullitt East, Whitesville Trinity and St Mary.

 

14. Daviess County Panthers (6-18) DOWN 4

Daviess County has lost 13 of their last 14 games. They dropped games to Muhlenberg, Owensboro Catholic and North Bullitt this week. They return home for games against Mclean County and Apollo this week.

 

15. Cloverport Aces (3-17) SAME

The Aces scored another win this week, defeating Brown by 6. Noah Pate had 28 in the win. Pate continues to lead the region in scoring at 23.9 points per game. The Aces will see Trinity and Kentucky Country Day this week.
