The Brossart-Mason County game was a game of runs, with Brossart getting the first one, an early second quarter 10-0 run to start the second quarter giving our Mustangs a nine-point lead 27- 18 and forcing a Coach Chris O'Hearn time-out. Following the meeting with their coach, the Royals cut the Mustangs lead to one on two occasions, 32-31 and 34-33 just before the half which ended with the Mustangs on top 36-33. It was great to see Zach Fardo connecting on 3-pointers again. He hit on his first three attempts tonight, while the Mustangs knocked down 8 longballs on the night last night.

Brossart again threatened to blow the game open, outscoring the Royals 9-2 to open the third period, giving our guys a ten point lead and again forcing the Mason County TO. Again the visitors cut into our lead, slashing the deficit to four points 50-46 after three periods of play. It was then that the Royals mounted a rally, overtaking the Mustangs to go up 55-52 with 1:48 to play in the game, outscoring the home team 9-4. Missed front ends of bonuses and missed shots close in would spell the Mustangs doom late in the game, but there was still enough magic in the hat for Justin Saunders to nail a 3-pointer with 8 seconds to play to knot the score at 60s and send the game to overtime.

In overtime Brossart struck first on a Joe Jennings big man move but that would be the final field goal the Mustangs could muster in the extra frame, falling to the Royals 69-65.

The Mustangs failed to contain Tyler Black who unloaded for 34 points in his seventh game from coming off of the shelf. Shawn Johnson added 10 as the Royals even their season mark to 13-13.

Joe Jennings led the Mustangs with 17 points and was the subject of an overtime controversial basket that was wiped out by a traveling call despite the "and one" from the under official which could have changed the outcome of the game.

Say what you want but Tyler Black is the best player in the region period. He won't get the award because of the time he missed, but this kid is a stud. Brossart couldn't guard him.

Huge win on the road!

Agreed, and if he had a full season under his belt, some of the Royals losses we are not looking at. That is how important he is to his team and that is a tribute to a great player. Of course there are going to be others that have a different opinion and that is the beauty of the open forum.

The walking call on Jennings was a big time turn around call for the Royals but the tide turner was Technical foul on a player for arguring a foul at the end of the overtime period. Mason did not hit FT's at the end keeping Brossart in the game. Mason has to do a better job on hitting FT's.

Even though the win didn't go in the Mustang's column, it was an exciting game. The gym was filled with cheering fans and the Mustangs played as a team showing their desire to win. They played with intensity and despite some questionable calls, the game could have gone either way. If the Mustangs continue to play like they like they did in this game, they should be able to do extremely well in the District games.

If scoring 30 plus points a game make you the best player in the region then Clark Co has a player who has scored 39 as a high and in the 30's in other games. he also leads in assists and steals.

The tech was called on Nate Verst. He didn't argue the call. He slapped the floor out of frustration as the ref was approaching the table to report the foul. Is that an automatic call? He definitely was not trying to show up the official.

Sounds like there was a lot of questionable decisions by the refs last night from what I heard listening to the game. Brossart needs to find a way to stop letting guys go off against them. That can't happen. Nice to see them playing with intensity again though, they have a lot of potential.

a lot will call the "T' here.. its a snap judgement on whether the player is frustrated or trying to show you up. I don't know the kid, but being a class program like Brossart, I'm willing to bet the kid meant nothing toward the official.

He is a great player and one of the best in the region. But there are several players ahead of him.

Congrats to the Royals on a big regional win.

There are no players in the region RIGHT NOW better than Black, he can do it inside or out, closest to him would be McGovney of CC.Prewitt, Monroe, Stenzel(while all outstanding players) are basically one dimensional. Black can do it off the bounce, post up and shoot the trey.
