Moore was at Holmes around 1975-76.

Later coached some good club teams at the NKCC.

Mike Moore was from Holmes mid-70's.

Steve Fields, Newport H.S., early-mid 70's.....there wasn't ANYTHING he wasn't good at!

Absolutely. Add in Greg Ponzer from SK as well.

 

Ponzer was very good and definitely a great competitor, but his team mate was an incredibly gifted talent - Billy Meyer. You can see why that SK team won a state championship - McKinley plus very gifted multi sport athletes in Ponzer, Meyer and Mullins.

A lot of good names on the list already.

 

Off the top of my head I'd add Randy Stegman from Highlands. Very good high school player in all three sports during the late 90's. Went on to play football at Miami (OH). Stegman started in state championship games in both football and basketball during his junior year. Smith (HHS) did the same that season. How many other athletes from NKY have started in multiple sport state title games during the same year, career?

 

Tim Sandfoss from NCC was a very good high school football and baseball player, but I'm not sure if he played basketball his senior year. Same era as Stegman.

Gary Gabbard NCC late 80's. QB, 2G and Pitcher.

I played baseball from Kindergarten through senior year w/ Randy. He would have been one of the best golfers in the region as well. I think that Hightchew was better overall at the 3 sports, as he's a standout at all. Randy was an excellent receiver, a solid point guard, and an average baseball player.

 

Timmy was my classmate and could do it all on the football field. Too bad that he doesn't get to play w/ the talent that they've had lately b/c he would have been fantastic and much better known. He was decent at basketball, but very good at baseball. However, out of our class, if I had to take one for all three, it would have been Kyle Bucher. All Enquirer 1st team safety, dangerous 3point shooter, and one of the top hitters in the region for 3 years. Additionally, he was one of the top pitchers before he injured his shoulder. He also led TMC in home runs on their run in the DIII World Series in '03.

Yes Jeoff and Jon Long both 3 sport atheletes, Also my brother Ken Dunhoft from Lloyd and especially Jelani Brandon from Lloyd back in the 60's there were several at LLoyd and all Northern Kentucky schools. I just can not remember all their names however like I said there were several from all over NKY. JD

I am pretty sure Grant Wasson who goes to SK is a three sport star(Football, Track, and Baseball).

I didn't know Greg played baseball.

I played against Jacobs in high school. He was a freak to do the things he could size wise. His throwing motion was a little funky, but he could rake. He once hit the Newport Gymnasium with a home run to right field.Some of the old timers may remember Mike Moore from Holmes in the mid 70's.

 

You want to talk about a shot!!!!!! I was at that game, it was his junior year, no telling how far it would have went if the building wasn't there. The ball was still on a line and more than halfway up the building, at least 425 ft. plus EASY. Everytime I'm at Newport Stadium I look at home plate and then look at the building and still shake my head, simply amazing.

Very good at basketball and football! Not quite as good at basketball IMO, but still athletic and very hard worker. I know he started baseball at UK, then I heard he transferred. Great kid and athlete!

 

Corey Farris was the first I noticed in the area, even though he gave up basketball his senior year..

Derek Smith had a 2 or 3 run HR against Holy Cross in the Regional Finals in his sophomore season. Highlands won 5-3. I think he was runner up in both Basketball and Football his Sr. year also.

Derek Smith, Brandent Englemon. People forget he played baseball until his senior year and then ran track for Holmes because of Michigan telling him to work on his speed.

Leo Foster from Holmes was a great basketball player, a multi-event track star and played for 4-5 years at 3rd, 2nd and short for the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets.
