Dont know, but it sure is fun to read!! Could always keep the classes, go to the Indiana format, play 9 games and have a draw for who plays who. On a serious note, the playoff draw in Indiana is pretty neat. Reminds me of when a team is waiting to see who they play in the NCAA tourney.

See, I dont get the whole reason of lessening the classes so that the season would be over sooner?

 

For as long as I can remember, which has to be the past 30-35 years, the State Finals have always been played the 1st weekend in December and it's that's still the same with 6 classes. I don't get it; am I missing something?

The change may have been made in 1991, when the playoff format was expanded to include four teams in each district and added an extra round.

It was long before '91. I don't know the exact year, but it's been close to 30 years if not longer.

Spot on my friend. I am not so naive to think that no private school ever skirts the rules; just like I'm not so naive to think that no public school ever skirts the rules. The record proves that they do. Do they get caught every time? I'm sure they don't. But when people have solid evidence and turn it into the KHSAA, the KHSAA does do a very thorough investigation ( a lot of the approx $30,000 fine assessed against LexCath was to recover investigation fees, which leads me to conclude a pretty thorough investigation was conducted). When the KHSAA can prove that rules were broken, they do take action. In addition to LexCath, Lexington Christian was penalized pretty heavily a few years back. http://www.khsaa.org/news/20072008/nr011408.pdf. The KHSAA does NOT just look the other way. I know that perception is out there, but it is not reality.

It happened as recently as 1987. This is a paper from November 29th, 1987, which was three days after Thanksgiving. It did happen and I think Lex Cath was fined 30,000 for the very thing I said and they didn't even fight the penalty, just read the article and see how innocent you say they are.

As much as I wanted to avoid additional comments on this subject in this thread I feel I have to address the very direct attack on a specific family in this thread.

 

The issue that LexCath was penalized for did not deal with with family named in this thread. The specific, single issue dealt with a student who played played baseball and who received help from a fund set up by a former principle that did go outside the KHSAA clearing house after his single mother lost her job. There have been no other issues since that time and it was the ONLY issue found in an extensive investigation that went back from 2007 a number of years. And that did cost the institution a penalty.

 

The specific allegation in this thread is not only grossly inaccurate but it demeans the sacrifice and effort that that family had to make so that their son could attend the school that they thought best.

Lex Cath just learned not to make the same mistake twice, I bet it still goes on.

 

Keep 6 classes, schools keep getting added every year, a new one in Nelson Co would just add to districts anyway.

This is the way it falls in 2012.

Some teams will be playing 3 games in the month of August this year; how nuts is that? I know that's not the norm, but just amazing that once upon a time the season didn't start until the Friday of Labor Day weekend; ironically, heat strokes were unheard of and only the district champion made the playoffs as well.

6 classes, forget enrollment since everyone plays with 11 guys anyway.

 

Each section of the state has a champion.

Northern KY state champ play at NKU

Louisville state champ play at pizza stadium

Western Ky state champ play at WKU

Eastern Ky state champ play at EKU

Central Ky state champ play at G-Town

Mountain state champ play at Union/Cumberland/Pikeville
