I think that 4 classes is plenty. What is the reward for the number of teams with sub .500 records making the playoffs? While you can say its for the kids, the amount of diservice that we are doing by the "everyone makes it" attitude is really bad. What do these kids work for if they skate into the playoffs? I guess its on the coaches to motivate and keep the attention of the kids, but anymore no one works for anything.

I like 4, heck, even 3 classes with the top and bottom 25% enrollments being 1A and 3A, then 2A being the middle 50% enrollment schools.

 

I know that district proximity wasn't perfect with 4 classes, but it seemed like it was so much better than the extreme distances within regions that 6A has caused. One thing about basketball, you can't beat district and region tournament atmospheres due to the relatively close distance between schools. Gyms are filled to the brim all through the post season.

 

Four and especially three classes would increase more of the "border war" type atmospheres beginning round 1 for sure.

Ranked 31st in 2010 and 25th in 2009. I would have to think this year KY could even crack or at least come close to ranking in the Top 20 with Trinity being named USA Today National Champs and BG, Highlands finishing in the top 100.

 

Is KY football elite? No. Is it acceptable to be satisfied with where we are at? No. Is it getting better? Without a doubt in my mind.

I disagree. Other states just have more. There are many KY teams that can beat IN, TN, OH, WV and other bordering states schools, we beat teams from there every year,just as those states have many programs that can beat KY teams.

 

I think the upper tier teams can handle there own wherever they played, what gives KY a bad name is the perennial bottom dwellers and ours probably win that toilet bowl, I'd have to unfortunately agree.

IF we are a laughingstock, it isn't because of the number of classes... You can certainly argue that the KHSAA's constant genuflection to basketball is a problem, but I don't think the class sytem is...

 

BTW, I would support 4 public school classes and a separate division for private schools.

 

For the life of me, I can't understand why the KHSAA can't figure out that programs should all have to follow the same rules. You can't do that without isolating private-school programs. Then again, all public school programs don't have the rules equally applied, either...

It's a fair question.

Scratch that whole our elites could beat/compete in any state, any year comment. Could Trinity have this year? Sure.

 

Most years though, KY's best competes with the best outside of Georgia, Cali, Florida, TX, Alabama, Ohio and maybe one or both of the Carolinas. Outside of those states, I'll put our overall top 10 and state champs against the same from other states.

Missouri also has a lot more bigger schools (1,500+ enrollment) and probably more small schools (400-and-under enrollment) than Kentucky does, plus you have to win your district to advance to the playoffs.

I would be all for 3 classes. Looking back at the state finals. Imagine if

1A/2A, 3A/4A, 5A/6A had been combined:

 

Potential 1A Semi games of:

Mayfield vs. Glasgow

Hazard vs. Cov. Holy Cross

State final would have been a dandy.

 

2A Semi games:

Tilghman vs. Franklin-Simpson

Central vs. Highlands

 

3A Semi games:

Scott County vs. Anderson County

Trinity vs. Bowling Green

 

Talk about some match ups.

If anybody is beyond extremely bored at the office tomorrow or gets a snow day from school, I'd love to see of "what if" alignment of 3, 4 and 5 classes would look like.
