Note: Indeed there are three game on Monday February 6th because of the odd number of teams in this years tournament and two games on Wednesday Feb 8th.

 

Of interest to all: The Freshmen Regional Tournament has been played at CovCath since the early 1970's and has been an outstanding event for the players. This Tournament would never take place, without the complete cooperation between the Freshmen Coaches as they work very hard to make this Tournament an exciting event for their players and fans.

 

When you attend the Tournament please remember to bring your sportsmanship with you, these games are for the players, so root on these young men, no matter if they win or lose!

I did twice (as 8th and 9th grader). I guess SG doesn't play in it anymore.

Who are the favorites to win the tournament? And why?

If this tournament was seeded by overall record, how would each team be seeded? I believe Cov Cath is #1.

I'm guessing Cov Cath. Their team is loaded with talent, and I have not heard of any of their frosh being pulled up to the next level yet.

I would say that there are three teams that are rather even and those are CovCath Dixie, and Holmes. (Just MO)

 

CovCath beat Dixie in the Holy Cross Holiday Tourney in OT but then at Dixie, Dixie defeated CovCath in OT. Holmes beat Dixie but CovCath beat Holmes at Holmes.

CovCath Bo Schuh has just in the last two games played some minutes for the CovCath JV but that was done (I believe:idunno:) because of some injuries to members of the JV squad and they needed some players. (Ryle and Moeller).

Boone needs to be in there too, they beat Holmes twice, lost by one to Dixie and lost by one to Cov Cath in the HC tournament. Should be a great tourney.

My reasoning for not putting Boone in the mix, is their losing to CovCath @ CovCath on Sat 12/10/11 by a score of 53-38 and from what I understand Bolden (sp?) didn't play for Holmes, in the Boone County games!

 

But indeed Boone should/could be in the mix as well and that second round game on Monday, should be an outstanding one to watch.

 

BTW if you have never taken the time to go and watch these freshmen play because, well they're freshmen, do yourself a favor and come out and watch a game or two. These young men can indeed play and besides it will give you a heads up as to the next couple of years.

I have seen every team except Boone and Holy Cross. I think it will come down to Dixie and CovCath.

 

Holmes is seeded pretty low. Bolden must have played in only a few frosh games to slip down to a 5 seed (that is what I was told). If he plays in the tourney, they have a chance, if not they can't beat the better teams.

Having seen a large part of these freshman teams play this year, I would have to say that Dixie and Cov Cath would be favored. Both have good size, Dixie especially, and very athletic. Dixie may go a little deeper, but Cov Cath has great athletes. This is certainly not to discount any other freshman teams, just reporting out what I've seen.

Is Bolden playing for Holmes? If so, he can be a one-man wrecking crew for the Dogs.

He will be. He's certainly fun to watch.

From what I have seen it has to be Cov Cath and Dixie, both are athletic and deep. If Bolden and Covington play for Holmes they may alter who plays in the championship game.

Played in it and really enjoyed the experience. Played in the grade school league at CCH and it was nice to finally play on the actual court and not the side courts. I think we played CCH.
