January 7, 201214 yr I own this. It's a 380 made by Bersa. Not too expensive, its fun to take out on the range, its light and can be concealed easily and its nice to have in the nightstand next to the bed.
January 7, 201214 yr They say revolvers are good handguns to start with. It's a simpler kind of gun. Only thing you lose with a revolver is with the number of rounds you will be able to fire when loaded. It can be a pain to constantly reload when target shooting.Not with speedloaders. Quick and simple.
January 7, 201214 yr Okay, so let me first say, I have no experience with guns (other than going shooting with my uncles a couple times when I was younger), have never taken any kind of safety classes, etc., and have no idea what the proper process is in purchasing a gun. With that said, I'm going to be looking to purchase one here in the pretty near future. I'm thinking a handgun would be the best way to go, as my basic desire for one is protection. I'm very much against hunting, so I see no reason to have a rifle or anything of that nature. Suggestions? Information? Advice? Are you looking for a gun for protection in the home only, or for conceal carry?
January 7, 201214 yr If just getting started go with a revolver. 38 special would be fine. Though the Judge suggestion made by Taurus is a solid choice too.

January 7, 201214 yr Not with speedloaders. Quick and simple. I can verify this. I own a .38 special and can have it loaded and ready, using a speedloader, in under 5 seconds.
January 7, 201214 yr Get a 12 gauge if someone breaks in your house you can not miss with a 12 gauge. Just point some of the pellets will find their mark.

It has to be comfortable for you to hold/shoot or you won't practice and if you don't practice shooting, it will be more of a danger than a help. A Taurus Judge/S&W Governor are great choices but if you haven't shot .410 rounds out of a pistol before its different.
January 7, 201214 yr I will agree that for strickly home defense the Judge is all you need. If you can see in the future getting a conceal permit and don't want to buy another gun go with the Springfield or Glock in a combact model.

Shooting a shotgun load from a pistol is a blast, no pun intended.
