I would seriously hope - and am very much certain - you are wrong about this. You think it's not the AD's responsibility to listen to complaints from parents? Absolutely they can go to the head coach, but if for whatever reason they do not feel they can or want to, parents have every right to expect to be heard by the AD.

 

And this is not to imply some knowledge of any problems at Ryle or an unwillingness of the head coach to listen to parents' concerns, only that it is silly to state the AD would refuse to listen to such concerns.

Are the majority of parents' complaints about playing time or wanting their child in another position? I would guess 95% even if they come up with some other complaint- it usually starts with the coaches' decision about playing time or position. I do not think their AD will listen to any of these complaints which is what I was mainly referring about. However, you are correct. Their AD is excellent and will listen to other parents' concerns if the head coach cannot resolve for some reason. First, I believe he would send them to discuss any and all situations to the head coach regardless of which sport. It helps to have administrators in any school that have been former head coaches which he was. He is a tremendous asset to Ryle.

Correct. They're still in great position to dominate across the board. I'm not talking just football.

Facts are 54 started the season- 56 ended the season (this doesn't mean they didn't have a lot of injuries but those players were still a part of the entire season). They actually added 2 guys- 1 transfer and 1 kicker. Not one player quit that started the season. However to compete with their schedule I would imagine they will impliment a system to better attract more numbers at this time- sounds like what they are doing with the open house. Numbers are important but Ryle will not take a step back in the discipline and toughness required to be a part of the team- most players are proud of this level- they just need to add some more fun in the mix to increase numbers. Players have fun when they beat Highlands.

 

Well maybe their grand kids will experience that fun..

...only two teams have beaten Highlands in the past 5 years- Ryle is one- must be doing something correct. In 2010, Ryle finished the season as the #1 team in the northern kentucky football coaches' poll- who is the last team besides Highlands to accomplish that.

You seem to be putting all your stock in that one close victory. I doubt that Coach Warner and his team consider that one game to be the basis on which they gauge the program's success. Or at least, one would hope they don't. :eek:

I imagine they would very much like to emulate Highland's prowess as a program and a recent victory over them shows that it is possible, achievable with the right stuff.

I don't disagree with that (most parents' concerns being self-centered and trivial - true of all schools). While I still believe Ryle's AD would politely listen to concerns that "Johnny isn't starting" or "Johnny should be running back" or "Coach Warner calls too many running plays", I think he would then appropriately tell them it was an issue for the head coach. For other more serious matters, however, (probably best not to attempt to list any examples, as I don't want someone to assume they apply to Ryle) I have no doubt that the AD would be extremely approachable and look to personally handle the situation as his position requires.

Whats going on Ryle...I believe Ryle is going through their last phase of down classes. Travis Elliott overshadowed his entire class for four years. As a matter of fact, most on here predicted Ryle to finish near the bottom of the district, with him....obviously with hindsight, how good could they have really been, with Travis. They only had around 8-12 seniors with many of their juniors falling to season ending injuries. Lots of bad luck in Union but they still were able to accomplish a 7 win season. A congratulation are in order for the few seniors who stepped up this year, the rest of the team and the coaches for doing their best to fight without so many horses.

 

What's going on at Ryle are some disgruntled parents, mostly regarding playing time and strategy by Coach Warner. Parents can not and will not decide what happens at practice or in games. They are trying to create controversy to diminish the coaching staff's hard work, searching for negativity. Sure, there will be kids unhappy with coaching strategies....an unhappy kid often leads to an unhappy parent. But, what if....a parent simply acts as a parent and tells their son "to trust the coach, they know what they are doing." But that is too difficult for many, parents know everything.

You mean you really think people thought the middle school program they started just last year was going to turn them into a dominant program this year? Your logic is flawless.

Ryle is in there 2nd year of a middle school team and really this was the first year for it. The first year they had 33 players as they started it up, this year 5th through 8th grade they had 150 plus kids. All levels had huge success and there freshman had a great season that I believe included a win versus Highlands. It will take time to build but the Union Raiders will only grow stronger and so will the Raiders varsity thanks to the hard work of the kids and the coaches day in and day out. Woodrow you said it best and the great thing is with all the adversity the raiders face this year and still were able to have success, the seniors and the rest of the team battled everyday to be the best they could be. The underclassmen will only benefit from this experience and will be better prepared for the upcoming season.

I call bologna on some of the stuff in this thread. Why not admit that there are problems that need to be corrected instead of acting like there are no problems other than parents complaining about playing time or coaching strategy and 95% of the complaints are about playing time or position. That is bologna. Coach Warner knows what needs to change and hopefully, it will change. I do wish them the best of luck.
