I do believe there are good parents, good student/athletes and good coaches at Ryle. Declining numbers are an indicator that kids are not enjoying the game that used to be fun. Things definitely need to be improved by Coach Warner IMHO, but there are positives with the program, too. There is no infighting on the coaching staff that I'm aware of. I agree with you 100%. Last month Clyde and Raiderbird brought up some problems about the program that were dead on.

I personally know parents from the team. There have been complaints brought up to the AD and it was not about playing time for Junior.

The Athletic Director at Ryle is not going to listen to any complaints about the Ryle Raider Football Program from parents. He has seen the program produce tremendous young men on and off the field consistently for the past 9 years. He has many young men the past 9 years that he interacts with daily that have never complained to him about the program. Parents are important but I would imagine the ones that are disgruntled are the ones that are not allowed to dictate policy. Ryle Football will continue to be a force- btw only two teams have beaten Highlands in the past 5 years- Ryle is one- must be doing something correct. If you need testimony ask the 190 players that have been through the program as seniors the past 9 years. Many are in college or the military succeeding at high levels. Many have given Ryle football credit for helping with that success. I have been told Ryle Football is holding an open house to discuss any and all aspects of the program on February 2nd, 2012. I know for a fact Coach Warner would listen to any and all parent complaints- he explained to me he has only heard extremely positive feedback about the tremendous hurdles the team overcame this season. In 2010, Ryle finished the season as the #1 team in the northern kentucky football coaches' poll- who is the last team besides Highlands to accomplish that. I believe they also finished the # 3 ranked team in the state to finish the season. You guys are throwing spitballs at a battleship.

You clearly have a lot to learn about the message board etiquette. No room for such logical, well thought out thoughts. I kid, of course. Thanks for the thoughts, great post. As we always like to talk about the future here, good to be reminded of all the good things from the last several years. And speaking of the future, I was a regular at the Union Raiders 8th grade games this year. That team was phenomenal, and if those kids continue to develope and add in the other classes, the future looks very bright.

From what I understand it is to allow anyone who is interested to meet one on one with the coaches and discuss any aspects of the program except for playing time. I plan on attending, and I am sure Coach Warner would love to answer any of your questions Clyde.

Most players don't complain to their coach about issues, but they do complain to each other and their parents. If the coach asks a player how things are, typically the kid will answer in a postive way. No one wants to get on the bad side of the head coach. And you're wrong about the disgruntled parents. It's parents who are concerned about things in the program that they have a right to be concerned about. After all, they are the parents of the boys. Their safety and well being should be their concern and if there are problems, they should be addressed. Having a winning program does not exempt a coach from everything. Jeesh, does Penn State ring a bell??? Not saying this is going on at Ryle, just saying that winning doesn't excuse everything.

Was there something wrong when he started the tradition of the father-son leadership camp or the mother-son senior dinner? These events were established 9 years ago and have tremendously benefited many of the relationships between players, parents and coaches. He will always look for ways to improve the program and the open house sounds like a great tradition. I will be there. I heard he will have some former players there to discuss the benefits of the program as well. I heard he has about 30 committments right now- people that want to learn more and believe in the program- could be a full house and time well spent.

I would seriously hope - and am very much certain - you are wrong about this. You think it's not the AD's responsibility to listen to complaints from parents? Absolutely they can go to the head coach, but if for whatever reason they do not feel they can or want to, parents have every right to expect to be heard by the AD.

 

And this is not to imply some knowledge of any problems at Ryle or an unwillingness of the head coach to listen to parents' concerns, only that it is silly to state the AD would refuse to listen to such concerns.

They actually added 2 guys- 1 transfer and 1 kicker. Not one player quit that started the season. However to compete with their schedule I would imagine they will impliment a system to better attract more numbers at this time- sounds like what they are doing with the open house. Numbers are important but Ryle will not take a step back in the discipline and toughness required to be a part of the team- most players are proud of this level- they just need to add some more fun in the mix to increase numbers. Players have fun when they beat Highlands.

I have no doubt about anything you say. I also believe he realizes that, like many people, sometimes what you are doing isn't working for whatever reason. I believe he is looking in the mirror and saying "what can I change about the program including about how I and my staff deal with kids that will move us forward."

I've always loved toughness and discipline. However, there seem to be concerns and actual complaints about how some on the staff show that toughness. I have no inside knowledge of the truth. I do know that 80 a few years ago to 54(or 56) should cause some to ask "why."
