You know, believe it or not, there are kids that don't smoke, don't do drugs, don't drink and don't use the F word. If any of them read this thread and think that there must be something wrong with them because they don't do these things, don't worry. You aren't alone.

 

I was under the impression that I worked with the only kid within my age range that did none of the above. His name was Dakota. He had some messed up political views though.

High school and kids. I am sure in the next 10-15 years many kids are gonna lose jobs or public roles off of stuff people saved or found on social media websites.

If it doesn't mention their employer or prospective employer then it is a lawsuit waiting to happen if someone loses their job over a social networking site. Many corporations have introduced social networking policies and unless you are specifically talking about that company then it is a wrongful termination and that company will lose the lawsuit.

I don't know if many will lose their jobs, but many may not be hired because of it.

I wouldn't want to work for a company worried about my Facebook and not my background report anyways. They probably won't be around long doing that kind of stuff.

You'd be surprised at the large percentage of companies who are doing that now. They're are companies out there that do nothing but this kind of background searching. Any prospective employee might as well consider it inevitable.

Bingo, mine has been that way for years and that is why my twitter account is protected. Not that I do anything bad on either site. Still don't want them knowing every single thing about me.

So what do they do when the account is set to private? Seems like every new friend I add has their account set to private and you can't see anything at all. Sounds pretty stupid to me when they can get so much more info from background checks and drug testing instead of someone's wall.

They had a software security guy on our local radio station the other day and he said 60% of all companies do a internet search for all social media prior to hiring. And over 90% of fortune 500 companies do the search. The company I work for has a social media policy which I have to sign every year and they have been around 70 yrs. They also said anything you delete on facebook doesn't really mean it goes away and companies can pay for the background check to get this info. Not sure how much is true, only reporting what I heard.

We sign a social media policy also but we cannot 'talk shop' on Facebook or talk bad about the company in any way. Other than that they can't touch us. Trust me, I know that firsthand. :lol:
