Drama, drama, and more drama. I used to be on it all the time and rarely get on it now.

You know, believe it or not, there are kids that don't smoke, don't do drugs, don't drink and don't use the F word. If any of them read this thread and think that there must be something wrong with them because they don't do these things, don't worry. You aren't alone.

I feel the same way TB&G. I'm sure my kids aren't saints, but when they use bad language in public, I let them know about it. And if I found out they were using drugs, I'd put my boot to their butt. It bothers me that a lot of adults in this thread think the facebook post is fine; just kids being kids. I'm sure times have changed since I played, but I honestly don't recall ever using that word in referring to a rival. I'm dreaming but I wish adults would do more to promote civility and respect towards opponents than encourage this type of behavior. I can't stand, absolutely can't stand, trash talking of any type on the field of play (which is one of the reasons I can't stand pro football or pro basketball. Pro football and pro basketball has turned into a bunch of thugs and punks earning millions).

LN, as an adult there are ways you expect and wish kids to be when they're in high school but you have to know that they're still going to be 17 and foolish. It doesn't make them bad kids. It makes them immature yet not abnormal. No way in heck do I believe that back in your no-facemask days of playing for the Birds that bad words weren't said either on the field or by other students when amongst peers. Maybe it wasn't the F bomb but whatever was considered "really bad" at the time was being said.

I have two boys that I guarantee you curse. Do I wish they wouldn't ? Sure. However, like every other facet in life where I wish they wouldn't make mistakes we talk about it and then let them know that they are accountable and will be accountable to others in the life. As long as adults are doing that I have no problem with them. It's life. We learn and evolve.

So while I understand your frustration with the "kids being kids" mentality I'm not sure what other approach parents can take other than to handle it as a parent should.

I'm serious Clyde, I really don't remember ever exchanging words with an opponent on the field. Ever. Keep in mind, I'm the same fellow that repeatedly posts about football not being an emotional game; that fans cheering loudly didn't fire me up, etc. It was a simple matter of just executing and doing my job each play. Very business like. Opponent wasn't a bad guy that I disliked or hated; just an opponent.

It may just be kids being kids; that doesn't mean we should act like we are okay with it.

I don't expect Mr. Rowe or any other principal to be checking every student's FB page, but if it brought to a principal's attention, I'd expect him or her to have a chat with the student and I'd certainly expect the parents to have an even stronger chat.

What can I say other than I'm an old fuddy dud?

You said what I said. Parents will get involved and have a discussion.
