November 17, 201114 yr I'm not gonna lie, I'm as proud a Cov Cath grad as any, and whenever I see guys going around doing any stupid crap like this with the school name attached to them in any way, it makes me cringe. Still, has this stuff been going on for years and years? Yes. Do teenagers make stupid decisions and say stupid things? Yes. Does Facebook make it more visible to a wider audience? Absolutely. I would certainly hope he would have used more tact than to post something like this, but at the same time, I wouldn't be surprised to see this same exact posting from most any students from any of the of the big rivalry schools come game week. I've seen and heard much much worse...just not yet on Facebook.
November 17, 201114 yr I think the part that I struggle with is do catholic schools (not just Cov. Cath, but all catholic schools) have a real mission that they are trying to fulfill or have they just turned into simply an alternative to public eduction for the more affluent in society. They were all certainly founded upon a mission, but is it still a core value. I know that kids will be kids, and they all mess up and do stupid things, but when you see something like this it does refect on the school and their overarching or more lofty mission. Is Facebook out of control is whole different topic all together.
November 17, 201114 yr I said that very thing about Beechwood in 1984. Then they beat us in the playoffs anyway. Much ado about nothing. And for the record, if there had been a FB, I'd have plastered it.

Yes, Catholic education is still the core value of Catholic schools. And don't get me wrong, I really really don't like seeing this, because it does reflect negatively on Cov Cath, but I think truth be told, it does go back to "kids being kids". This is nothing new.

Agreed. And it even goes beyond kids being kids, I mean where better for a a kid who clearly "doesn't get it" to be than in a Catholic school???
November 17, 201114 yr If I were Bobby Rowe, I'd be more concerned with all the references to drinking that he posts on his page.
November 17, 201114 yr Funny. Everyone is talking about Bobby Rowe and no one has mentioned mom and dad. That's a parent issue, not a school issue.
November 17, 201114 yr Who freakin cares? What is it that bothers people? It's not a personal thing, it's a high school rivalry. If it's not personal, who really cares? If it's not actually your kid, who really cares? I said the same thing in high school about Highlands and I now find myself hanging out with Highlands people in Lexington every weekend. It's not a big deal, and something that might be now that it's on BGP for everyone to see and complain about to the school about.

I don't think little old BGP can broadcast it anymore that FB has.

November 17, 201114 yr If I were Bobby Rowe, I'd be more concerned with all the references to drinking that he posts on his page. ...and he's the first high school drinker in the history of high schoolers or drinking. Principals can only do so much. Let's follow check out the Facebook pages of every high schooler in the state and jump on the backs of each principal that has a drinker in their school.
November 17, 201114 yr It's on Facebook. I don't think little old BGP can broadcast it anymore that FB has. There's a difference between broadcasting it between him and his friends from Cov Cath and NDA and it being posted on BGP where literally everyone, from every school, from every age can see it. I'm not friends with him, so I wouldn't have seen it had it not been posted here. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that there's no way you would have seen it either had it not been posted here.
November 17, 201114 yr Additionally, it's not that big of an effin deal. Posting it on FB would be my only issue as a parent. Kids say it, parents say it, coaches say it (maybe not out loud)...but the majority of those people don't paste it on the #1 website on the planet.
November 17, 201114 yr I think the nuns should take the ruler across the knuckles approach Oh, the good ole days.
