Makes me pause and wonder about local issues at the high school level we have read about on BGP?? Reaction always seems to be mixed when it is your guy. When it is the other teams guy, then he must go.

Surely I'm not the only one who is completely disgusted and sickened by the idiots who are out "rallying" for Paterno to stay am I?

You aren't, UKMF. I can't understand how anyone can defend JoePa let alone thousands of students rallying to support him. Truly a sickening and sad display.

Not true. There are some things that happen at the local high school level that some people don't rally behind. People rallied behind a well respected coach until reports/allegations surfaced about why he was removed from the building immediately. I have yet to see anyone on BGP come to his defense after people caught wind of that situation.

Nope. A disgrace.

I think it is sad when people put any institution or individual above the protection of children, especially ones that are already at a disadvantage in life. No person or institution no matter what whether it is Church, Government, and least of all a football team should be excused for covering up the sodomy of children. Jo Pa is/was a great football coach who won 2 championships without cheating. To me that now means nothing and he is a far worse individual in my opinion than anyone from SMU, the U or any other place with recruiting violations. He should have protected those children but instead protected the institution of Penn State football. For that Jo Pa should pay with his job and instead of chanting "Let Joe Stay", they should be chanting "Why did you let it Happen". This is a case where the cover up isn't worse than the crime but it is worse than any recruiting violation and Jo Pa's win with honor means nothing because football is a game. His moto should have been live your life with honor and reported the crime then his legacy would be firmly intact. Instead he will go down as the coach who knew kids were being raped in his locker room and did nothing about it. His legacy is that of a coward and it should be. Jo Pa should go.

When Tressel covered up and lied to the NCAA I knew he had to go, even as a staunch Buckeye supporter. Letting this go on at Penn State is 1000 times worse. No question he has to go and go now.

I have said for some time Joe Pa needs to go. Even before this latest thing came out. For about 15 years now it is clearly obvious he is not physically or mentally capable of his job and he is the ring leader - whether he knows it or not - as to why there is a lack of institutional control with the Penn State football program. I remember OTL doing a piece on PSU 5 or 6 years ago on the multiple arrests and criminals playing for PSU. Joe Pa was like a deer in headlights and thought it was normal compared to other institutions.

I'm for Joe Pa. He did what he was suppose to report it. People on here and in the news are acting like her personally saw some kid being molested. All that happened was that someone told him they saw something that looked inappropriate, he reported just like he was suppose to and went on with his day. If you want to blame someone blame the higher up that failed to report it as he should. Does anyone have any evidence that Joe Pa tried to cover this up? NO! For all any of us know Joe Pa might have assumed the claims were investigated and determined to be false.

 

It is a terrible terrible thing what happened, but you can't blame everyone for what someone else did. It's ridiculous to hang an old man up that committed no crime, just because one of his employees did.

 

I'll phrase this with the fact I've always loved Paterno too. But this is turning in to a witch hunt to blame anyone and everyone possible beyond the actually criminal. If Joe Pa reported it like he was suppose to I'm behind him 100%, after he reports it up the chain it's up to those he reported it to to do their job. They are the ones that failed kids here if anyone besides the perpetrator did.

The problem is that the GA said he specifically told JoePa that the boy had his hands against the shower wall and the coach was behind him and sexually molesting him.

 

That's a big difference. JoePA's indifference is going to cost him in the end.

He's not an eye witness and he followed the guidelines of how to handle such reports. Was he suppose to play police officer and go arrest the guy himself? I'm just not sure what else Joe Pa could do, I'd imagine like most of us would do if we reported something to the proper people, if we didn't hear about it again, we would assume it was investigated and the allegations were found to be false/baseless.

Also, why didn't the grad student go to the police? Why is it ok to blame Joe Pa and then give the GA a pass for just telling Joe Pa what he saw. He is the actual eye witness.

How old were the kids? And how did they let this happen to them? Did he force them into the showers? Did he walk in when they were showering? Are there even any details out? I'm trying to get an understanding of what's going on with this case, but it's all very vague.

As soon as he let the guy back on campus with a child he was culpable.
