I still think most that want Joe Pa to go down are using the lynch mob mentality. Something awful happened and we need someone to blame. It's not enough to blame the guilty party, we need to blame others as well, and the more we can bring down the better, because this kind of awful stuff should never happen.

Everything I've read over the last 24 hours has been talking about blaming Joe Pa and the AD, I haven't really seen anyone talk about blaming the GA.

 

Also, what if Joe Pa told the kid to report it to the police and he didn't? I looked up what was supposedly told to Joe Pa by the GA and apparently their grand jury testimonies are very conflicting. So right now the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. The GA probably didn't give Joe Pa enough details, but at the same time he probably gave him enough Joe Pa should have been on red alert.

I understand that but JoePa is at worst the 2nd most powerful man at PSU. He could have gotten the truth out IF he truly wanted to know the truth. He could also avoid the truth, deflect blame and get away with that also.

Exactly, by the time this accusation occured JoePa wielded a lot of power at PSU. He could and should have done more, he has the moral obligation to do so.

But a lot of the lynch mob mentality is spreading because of the alleged facts coming to surface. When the story first broke no person was calling for Joe's head. The length of time this occurred is what is so disturbing. I realize it is easy to say, "If I were in Joe Pa's shoes....". With that said, he is held to a higher standards for the kids/young men he leads every day. This is not just some random bystander.

But, at this moment all we know is that one time a person reported something he saw to him. Joe Pa didn't see it, and until proven otherwise had no other knowledge of it. What if the GA was known to be a complainer that had problems with authority. What if the GA and the coordinator had had a lot of run ins? I don't know if that is TRUE or not? But those facts haven't came out, and if they did and the kid came to Joe Pa, it seems more likely Joe Pa might believe his coworker of many many years over a disgruntled GA and at that point report it because you are suppose to, but also believe it probably doesn't have much if any merit.

That's why I'm not completely ready to throw him to the wolves. Until we know what he was told after reporting it....

For people in lots of professions, it's their duty.

Again, you are not separating from the law and obligation to the University. If you hear shower in your facilities, grown man, 10 year old boy, I would hope Joe Pa would follow-up beyond a memo to a supervisor. Do not try an over-think the situation.

A lot would depend on who told me, who they said did, and my relationship with both people. I would hope I would raise a fit until something was done, but to sit here and say I would or wouldn't do this or that isn't something I can answer. Until you are in the situation I don't think any of us know how they would take it. I think we all hope we would do the right thing, but until you know who the accuser is and who is being accused I think it's hard for any of to say we would or wouldn't do this or that. I mean I know I have people in my life it would take a lot to convince me that they hurt a child.
