A coach of the year should come from a school that succeeded beyond their teams expectations or showed great improvement. Which coach has done the best, with what they have to work with? If the award were given out to most deserving, not most surprising or "best team", I would say Rash of Beechwood or Wirth of CCHS. Beechwood will have an opportunity to win state and have defeated all of the NKY teams they face this season, with the exception of Cov Cath. Cov Cath, outside a possible upset win over the Birds, is likely the 2nd best team in 5A.

 

There are so many posters that would like to call on their coach for having a "surprising" season or an "improved" season....like playing in the Regional Championship or winning your district with a 3-7 record. Awards are not won on regular season play alone and not playoff success alone. Coaches cannot be measured by an influx of talent. Sometimes talent is low, but good coaches will still win.

With wins over Campbell County and Dixie, Cooper showed this year that they can finally play with the big schools as well as beat them. By winning the district they also clinched the schools first ever playoff game... and a home one at that. While Cooper may have lost in the first round I still believe Borchers deserves the COY in NKY due to the fact that he played tougher competition, won the district, and hosted a playoff game in the schools 4th year of existence.

 

Now I don't know as much about Bracken's story but I do know that Bracken has been.. let's face it.. terrible since they have played football. This year they went 6-4 also I believe (correct me if I'm wrong). They made the playoffs also and made great improvements.

 

I think either of these coaches are qualified to win COY but I still say Borchers should get it.

Just to educate you a bit on Bracken football (please take no offense to that, just giving you what I know), they have won 7 games in the history of the program before Coach Siple arrived this year, with 3 of them coming in the 1st year of varsity. This season, the Polar Bears were 6-5. In those 8 prior seasons, there are a pair of 20 plus game losing streaks. The concern of that happening now are long gone.

they were 6-5 this season which is only one win less than the total wins in the programs history. A pair of LONG losing streaks are in the rear view mirror now.

I have my moments.

I think with the Boone County win last night & the manner in which Conner lost (decision not go for 2) I would have to vote for Rick Thompson for NKY Coach of the year. Going into this weekend it was neck & neck between Trosper & Thompson.

There is no team still playing that had lower expectations going into the season than Boone.

I have seen no talk about a certain coach. One that has gad a program and continually, year after year, taken a step or two farther. Last year won their first second round game. This year their first Regional Title. The talk all year was ''yea, they are ok but they will never get over that hump (NCC).'' Well boys he got them over that hump. He had an offensive game plan for Fridays game that was a total change from what they did all year long. He changed the deffense every game to match what team he was playing. He convinced his players to buy into his changes and play with all the heart a kid could pkay with. He took them past that hump. And his season is not over yet. My vote goes to Koz. Why has no one elses?

I would agree that he probably has no plans to leave Holy Cross but who would not want the recognition for the job that they do?
