Have you turned your heat on yet?

Featured Replies

We try not to turn the heat on until late October. The energy company will own you until March, and we want that money in our pocket.

Not yet...I'm in florida so I don't have to yet.Now the mother in law lives with me in Danville.I doubt she turned the heat on.I bet she had extra blankets last night...

I turned mine on Friday night. After sitting at a ball game Friday night in a steady cold drizzle I was froze out.

Same. Man the gas heat smells when you 1st fire it up. At least it does here. Turned on the heat and cracked 2 windows and turned on the ceiling fan.

Same for my house. My wife was acting like the house was at artic temperature levels, so had to turn it on last night.

Turned it on yesterday. I'm fighting a cold, and I was freezing yesterday evening.

Yesterday. But I had gone with no heat or air for about 2 or 3 weeks.

Had to turn it on Friday. Just too darned cold after being at a cold, wet football game all night.

Can't remember the last time I turned it on before October, wasn't a happy camper. Good news is it goes back off tomorrow and hopefully stays off for one more good stretch.

Like another poster mentioned, had a nice three week stretch with no heat or AC running at all though, I wouldn't mind one more of those.

We have a wood stove that heats our house so we were busy this weekend cutting wood and hauling it from the woods so we can actually have heat this winter. Haven't fired up the stove yet though. Told the kids to put sweatshirts and socks on for now and put space heaters in their bedrooms.

Turned it on this weekend when the house temp dropped to about 64. With the weather forecast, it looks like we won't need it for several days coming up.

Been there done that. When I was a teenager we heated our house with a wood stove, the only source of heat we had. We spent the entire spring and summer cutting timber and working it down into firewood. It was a ton of work. I was never so glad in my life as I was the day we switched over to a heat pump.

I must admit though, I kind of enjoyed the fire building and the warmth of that stove. When you came in out of the cold, it was awesome to stand in front of that thing and warm up. Plus, there was nothing like walking into that house and smelling the soup beans or vegetable soup my mom would have simmering in a kettle on top of that wood burner.

I guess my house is insulated pretty good. Have not flicked it over yet. Should we start a new thread, "Did you turn your air back on?" Temps in the high 70's this week! I have the doors open and the fan on today, keeping me cool in the office.

Ours is outside so no standing in front to get warm when you come in from the cold. It's a Woodmaster that heats our water too so it's pretty big. We used to have one inside but it made our house smell a bit like smoke so that had to go.

My thermostat is automatic... Doesn't allow it to get cooler than a certain temperature, doesn't allow it to get warmer than a certain temperature. Always right there in the middle. :D
