Personally, I think Brooks saw the down turn coming and retired before it bowled him over. I'm willing to give Joker the time to convert the offense to what he wants and recruit the players to play it the way he wants it played.

Actually my understanding is that Brooks wanted to coach another year or two, but the administration was concerned they were going to lose Joker to another head coaching position, helped facilitate the switch.

Our administration was crazy. No big program was going to offer Joker and would he really leave for a MAC or CUSA job when he was his alma mater's HCIW under an aging coach?

I'm starting to think Joker just doesn't have the passion and energy to be a head coach. As terrible as the team is, he only ever looks mildly irritated. How do you expect the team to play their hearts out if Joker isn't all that fired up. I'm not saying he doesn't care, just that maybe his personality is too subdued.

Nobody in the country wants this job more than Joker. I would love to see him be successful. There are folks in the Big Blue community that say Joker needs to get his own house in order...

Come on people. UK hasn't had a win against Fla. in going on 30 years. Brooks never beat them. Why pile on Joker? When will you accept that UK is not going to compete in the SEC in football? EVER!!!

Why does Joker deserve the same grace period? The situations are very different. The football program Joker inherited was in much better shape than the one Brooks inherited. Big difference, IMO. UK was 17-29 in the four years prior to Brooks, he was second coach in 3 years since Mumme left, and they had scholarship restrictions to deal with. UK was 30-22 in Brooks last 4, and they had scored some big wins over teams that they would have previously rarely beat...

 

Auburn, Georgia, Florida State, a win over then #1 and eventual national champion LSU, and he reversed the U of L series and put UK in the drivers seat of that rivalry

 

The program was on the upswing and coming off its most successful run in the last 30 years. Supposedly the recruiting has improved and the talent level is better. The SEC East is still down compared to what it has been in the past. I'm not calling for Joker's head 3 games into his second season, but there's no excuse for the quality of play dropping off a cliff as it seems to have done. And, he doesn't deserve the same amount of time that Brooks got.

I started this thread before the Florida game.

Brooks didn't reverse the UofL series, Kragthorpe reversed the UofL series. Just ask your current defensive coordinator:

"If you are going to be given the keys to the Rolls Royce then you better have a valid drivers' license and know how to drive the darn thing and I think that's what the coaching staff down there is finding out because that program was primed and ready to ascend to the next level. So, they have some regrouping to do."

 

Personally, I think UK should keep Joker. He recruits well. Fans should give him time, this was going to be a down year from any perspective that was being objective with the talent that went out the door last year.

The program is lacking energy right now. This train just didn't come off the rails, this has been percolating since the end of last year. I claim ever since Joker passed on 4th and 2 in UT territory with game in the balance he lost a lot of fans in thinking he could make the big call. From that game through the bowl game to present day it has not been pretty.

Granted the idiotic deal to play in Nashville was not his fault...however the play on the field has been ugly.

The fans are almost at an apathetic stage right now. Attendance has been disappointing

They get LSU Saturday, and most assuredly will suffer a prolapsed anus in that game, and then will head to Columbia and watch Lattimore run for 200+.

They will be lucky to see 45K for Jackson State game.

Season tix were down 4K before Joker's first season and down 2,700 this year. Something is going to have to give.

Barnhart has been getting testy lately and seems to think the program arrived under Brooks, but it did improve but still had a lot to work on.

This will be interesting to watch.

The only way they can get a shot in the arm is by looking at the Pirate. Barnhart may not like him(Leach) but he didn't like Calipari either but there was enough push from within the UKAA to get it done.

Is there anyone on the football side of things to get it done?

all I know is that Ole Miss and Arizona will probably be looking for coaches before too long.

Maybe he has been watching Marvin Lewis and how fired up he gets on the sidelines.
