Unfortunately, the majority of the Kentucky fanbase will never fully back an African-American head basketball coach or football coach. If that statement offends you, I apologize that offends you but I don't apologize for what I said. Too much Tubby Deja Vu going on here.

I don't. Winning cures almost everything. Including racism.

I can agree with that somewhat but Joker isn't doing himself any favors at the moment. He is in a situation where if he wins then he is winning with his players. Unfortunately his team looks awful with his players. I can't call it Tubby Deja Vu because Tubby bought himself a 5 year grace period after winning the title in 1998. Even though he didn't win it with 'his players'(very sarcastic statement). Joker will never earn a true grace period and after seeing his product so far I don't see how he can earn one or why he should be allowed around after this year.

The VMI loss began the true "get rid of BCG" movement. But you had rumors of BCG mistreating players and UK fans backing up him saying it was time to make the team tougher. Can you imagine the outrage if it leaked out that Joker was mistreating players?

I remember wanting Brooks gone after season 2. My trigger is still the same. Like BleedBlue says, the program shouldn't be declining at this point when transitioning from Brooks to Phillips. Doesn't make sense.

 

Jimbo Fisher was a Coach-in-waiting who elevated his program. Joker shouldn't be declining. At the very least the program should still be at the same level as Brooks left it.

For the record, I defended Joker last year. I want to defend him this year but I see a 3 win season at best this year and next year. UK won't defeat UL in football for another 2-4 years.

The thing that has Joker under scrutiny is the big drop off in the team being competitive. With several years in a row of UK fans at least thinking they had a chance to win almost every game, this team being so clearly unable to compete has fans upset. That is why attendance is down. I think there are going to be a lot of empty seats in the big SEC games because who wants to go watch a beat down.

Rich Brooks inherited a program that was in shambles. He was something like UK's 8th choice as a coach when he was hired. He was given time & proved he could turn it around. Four straight bowl wins, at a place like UK, speaks for itself.

 

Joker inherited the program that Brooks left, which was one that had gone & won four straight bowls. He had his foot in the door, knew he was taking the job in advance, & had recruited most of his players. So for my money, it's a huge difference between the two.

 

I'm not as frustrated with UK football this year as I was last year. Programs like UK simply cannot reload when losing their four premiere playmakers (Cobb, Locke, Matthews, Hartline). I expected a drastic drop-off this season & I don't understand why so many people had such high expectations. The disappointment I had with Joker was last season, when he had a talented team that underachieved.

 

Having said that, I do think Joker needs this full season & next full season. Unless he does something BCG-like (meaning off the field), I think he needs three full seasons at the minimum. I believe he has earned that as an alum & long-time coaching staff member. His play-calling is incredibly frustrating at times, but the man deserves a fair shake. Calling for his head after 16 games as head coach isn't a fair shake at all IMO.

To be honest my expectations were for UK to win 4-6 games this season at the most. Now I am certain they won't win more than 4. I expect them to go 0 for SEC. I understand losing the 4 good players and the drop off but they look far worse than I ever would have imagined and I don't see it getting any better in the next 2-3 years.
