I like Joker Phillips. I don't think he is a good enough coach(yet) to field and lead a team in SEC football. I spent all of last year defending Joker(and Hartline) but I can no longer find a proper way to defend Joker. These are his players that he helped recruit to UK. He had some say in who to bring in for each and every player so the lack of suitable SEC talent found on the team is his fault. Even if you believe they are suitable SEC talent they aren't playing like an SEC team so that still falls on Joker. With this team I don't know who can turn them around nor do I know that this is team that can or will be competitive in the SEC in the near future. I saw where Rich Brooks said more money is needed to be spent on the football program and I wholeheartedly agree. That being said, should Joker stay or go? What coach in his right mind would coach football at UK? It is a no-win situation in every way possible. A buddy of mine said Joker is about to be more hated in KY than Obama. I'd love to see Joker flourish at UK but I no longer believe that he is capable of doing so.

What really bothers me is that for a second it appeared that UK was on the cusp of making the transformation from 6-8 wins/season team to a 7-9 win/season team and competing with/defeating the likes of UF/UT. Now it feels like we are headed back to the 3-5 wins/season type of teams.

 

Another buddy of mine said that UK may be so beat up after their next 3 games that the Jacksonville State game may be a bigger challenge than expected. I can see that. I feel bad for the players for some of the beatdowns we will be witnessing shortly.

Flipping back and forth Saturday night it was night and day the talent on the field in blue and red versus the talent on the field in Tallahasse and even Miami.

I think it is time they let Maxwell start at QB.

If they decide to let Joker go I think the best route would be a good coach with baggage. Rich Rod, Leach, maybe they could get Tressel. A real up and comer is going to wait on a better job IMO. Maybe they could get someone like Sumlin.

 

I think the only guys who could win big at UK are not coming. Meyer could have done it, Petersen or Patterson could do it but won't come, Saban is obvious. UK is the 11th best job in the most difficult conference in the country.

I hope he is gone. I want to see UK get as serious with football as they are with basketball. I want that in the worst way.

I'd love to see "Air Raid" return with some NKY flavor behind center. I know you aren't in the minority, many want Leach to return. UK will never consistently be able to run with the big boys of the SEC but a style like his would keep fannies in the seats and draw the interest of more than a few quality skilled players. If you can be a success in Lubbock Texas then it should be no question why it wouldn't work in the SEC.

This team has gotten worse since defeating South Carolina last year and that is with an extra month of practice for being bowl eligible. The longer he is around it is possible the program could reach new lows. How much time is acceptable? BCG got 2 years and we saw the direction he was taking the basketball program. The football program needs to be treated with the same urgency for it to ever be taken seriously. Especially in the SEC football arena.

I can agree with that somewhat but Joker isn't doing himself any favors at the moment. He is in a situation where if he wins then he is winning with his players. Unfortunately his team looks awful with his players. I can't call it Tubby Deja Vu because Tubby bought himself a 5 year grace period after winning the title in 1998. Even though he didn't win it with 'his players'(very sarcastic statement). Joker will never earn a true grace period and after seeing his product so far I don't see how he can earn one or why he should be allowed around after this year.
