1960 Manual?

 

You actually think kids from 1960 could play with kids of this day and age?? No way!! The size and speed are on a totally different level..

I am guessing you haven't seen them?? That is why you have doubt..Name another team that comes close in size, speed, and athleticism.

 

Admittedly, I have not. I just know that they they still have an imposing stretch of schedule to play. If they get through it w/ just 1 loss, I would consider them the best ever.

All of the nice accolades are greatly appreciated. As has been aptly stated herein - "3 games does not a season make." Let us see how all of this 'plays out'.

 

IF they pick up that trophy again at the end of the season AND continue to win against this unholy schedule - then we can chat. :thumb:

I never thought I would see a Kentucky team that would beat Brentwood Academy, Montgomery Bell Academy and Elder by an average of 44 points. Barring something catastrophic, the answer will be an unadulterated "yes."

It's not fair to compare teams from different eras in that way. I think they can be compared, but more contextually: how dominant was a certain team compared to the other talented teams in the time in which they played? There's no telling how good 1960 Manual would have been if they'd even considered nutrition, exercise and weight training in the ways we do now.

I'll agree with those who say that I'd like to see how the rest of the season pans out. If this team fails to win a state title, then they're not even in consideration for this.

 

FWIW, Male's team in 2000 remains the most incredible assembly of talent I've ever seen on a high school football field in Kentucky. Whether they were the best team ever in Kentucky is a different discussion, but it's something I look to when talking about these things. When speaking about pure talent on the field, that's the mark I always look toward.

Say we lose this weekend, kind of makes this a moot point don't you think? I think it would be more appropriate to bring up this discussion if we make it through our schedule unbeaten and then bring it up.

 

I don't. With their schedule, Trinity doesn't have to go undefeated to be considered the best team in KY High School history. JMO

Do you judge teams across time frames or against their competition? Because obviously today's teams are stronger and more athletic. But the 1960 Manual team (for example) may have been more dominant than the 2011 Trinity team.

They lost to St. X that year 14-7.. They lost to an in state team that didn't even make it to the state championship game..Not even close Trinity would win by at least 3tds..

"They lost to a team that didn't even make the championship game" is an absurd argument when the team didn't make it that far because the team in question was the one that knocked them out.

 

It's entirely reasonable that Male's regular-season loss to St. X eliminates them from contention as the greatest team ever, but that wasn't necessarily the point I was making. Best, second-best or also-ran, I still believe that 2000 Male squad was the most pure talent I've ever seen at a Kentucky high school.

We build on the past and find ways to improve. Thanks to physics classes in college, I understand more about how gravity works than any scientist of the 17th century could have imagined... doesn't make me smarter than Isaac Newton.

My bad I thought St.X lost to Trinity..2000 Male was loaded no doubt. I just think if they played Trinity would win..
