Brian Kelly takes a shot at Ohio State

Featured Replies

Life is frustrating for Brian Kelly right now. He's the head coach of a Notre Dame team that really should be 2-0 on the season, but is 0-2 thanks to ten turnovers -- five in the red zone -- in two games, and Denard Robinson. Kelly also believes that Notre Dame's schedule is a big reason why the team is 0-2, as he believes his team is playing tougher games this early in the season than some of its counterparts, like, say, Ohio State.

“We’ve made so many mistakes against two pretty tough teams coming out,” Kelly told the Chicago Sun-Times. “Again, as you see the schedule, Ohio State is playing Toledo. I mean, teams are playing easy games early on in the schedule. We don’t get that luxury. We have to go play in front of 115,000 [at Michigan Stadium]. Those mistakes are more glaring against opponents that are physically pretty good, as well.

“I believe that we’re going to be a good football team. We won’t be until we clean up the little things that keep popping up on Saturdays.”

Seems like a case of if I can't make me look bigger, I'll make others look smaller.

Cry me a river Kelly! Join a conference if you don’t like the schedule. I suppose South Florida was scheduled as one of their “tough” opponents? No, but they still blew it against South Florida. I respect Notre Dame, but Kelly has a grudge with Ohio State and these types of comments are ridiculous. Every team in the Big Ten, SEC, PAC-12, ect.. schedules cupcakes and one or two decent out of conference opponents. Its been that way for 50 years and will continue. Like I said, join the Big Ten and then take your shots.

Not to mention, isn’t the opponent in the same boat? Didn’t South Florida come to South Bend?

Didn't read the article, just what GT posted. Is he wrong?

They don't get that luxury because they didn't schedule it. Both teams play 10 BCS opponents and 2 non BCS opponents this season...

If Kelly's argument is that he plays a tougher early-season schedule then he is correct. If he's trying to say he plays a tougher schedule ehhhhhh....

His comments scream of desperation.

One could point out that he lost, at home, to one of those non BCS opponents last season, Tulsa.

BTW, he doesn't have to join any conference, just play in the one ND already belongs to. He'll get all the cupcakes he wants, right?

Man up and take responsibility. Trying to make yourself look bigger by belittling others isn't something a man in such a power position should take.

Here's a helpful tip: You play the 11 players on the field, not the fans in the stands. You didn't get beat by the fans, you got beat by a team who was comical to watch. Too bad you skipped out on your date in Columbus next year for your dream job... how's that working out for ya?

Wel, I think the Coach made a nice point. Let ND play the two Ohio teams and what would his record be? Let OSU play South Florida/Michigan and they would be 2-0 too. I give it to OSU in playing in state schools. Bama plays North Texas and their opening game Kent State (Ohio) and could play UAB/Troy.

Here's hoping Kirk Cousins and Michigan State give him something more to whine about and the Irish fall to 0-3 after this week.

What a joke of a statement! Kelly so far has beem a failure at ND. There is no other way to say it. Although I didn't think that he was a good fit at ND from the start I did believe he was more of a stand up guy than to resort to trying to throw excuses around to cover up his own trouble.

OSU has certainly had it's owm troubles, have owned up to them and trying to move foward. Kelly should own up to that for two consecutive weeks ND should have won and were outplayed and outcoached (but didn't he look cute in his little visor:D) .

Kelly imo is one of the most overated coaches in the country. The ND job is way above his head, jmo.. I am not so sure that Kelly/ND could beat Toledo right now but that, like Kelly's statement about OSU's schedule has nothing to do with it.

:thumb::thumb: Very well said, much better than my statement trying to say basically the same.

Bottom line is Kelly just proved that he is in way over his head so he makes a laughable statement like that.
