Kelly is in over his head and is trying to push blame elsewhere for ND two loses. If ND played in Big Ten they would be 500 or a little better if they played in the SEC they would be a bottom feeder so best thing to do is quit making excuses and try to get his from making so many mistakes.

Big maybe, I just doubt anyones ability to win at Notre Dame anymore with the academic standards and lack of a true local recruiting base. This isn't basketball where one or two recruits can turn your team around. Football you need 4 or 5 good national recruits and then another 10 to 15 solid local recruits you can count on your area producing yearly. Saban claims to recruit nationally, but look at his lists year in and year out he still gets a good chunk of his players from Alabama or from a state bordering Alabama.

Paul Hornung spoke out on this issue of the kids they cannot go after and he was really upset, and got into some hot water about it, but he was telling the truth.. I use to hate ND so much because they were always given special treatment (1966/1973/1977) and always the talk about being a best program in the nation, but now I just give the numbers, and walk away. They are no longer a threat to that claim.

Wel, I think the Coach made a nice point. Let ND play the two Ohio teams and what would his record be? Let OSU play South Florida/Michigan and they would be 2-0 too. I give it to OSU in playing in state schools. Bama plays North Texas and their opening game Kent State (Ohio) and could play UAB/Troy.

 

ND might very well be 1-1 right now with OSUs schedule.

Nowadays...not being in a conference puts your whole program at a disadvantage. Especially in recruiting. I know what the Notre Dame fans are going to say. I just disagree...

Yes, I think it's possible. Ohio State turned the ball over once, twice if you count the blocked punt, and about lost the game. Notre Dame is averaging like 4 turnovers a game.

Toledo is much better than people are giving them credit for. They finished 8-5 last year and returned like 18 starters. they will likley lose to Boise on Friday but will be favored in probably every game they play the rest of the year. As far as Brian Kelly goes, he is going to have to come to the reality that you can't win games trying to out score everybody, especially when you turn the ball over like they have. They are eventually going to have to tighten up the chin strap and play some defense. I give a lot of credit to Michigans receivers for making plays but D. Robinson was just throwing the ball up in the air and the ND corners had no clue where the ball was. Kelly's teams have never played good defense!

I agree. Alabama always has a ton of local kids, as well as some from Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, etc.

 

Here's a question: If Notre Dame would join the Big Ten or Big East, would there be a measurable improvement in their program? The reason I ask is because Notre Dame already has a path to the BCS annually, so the conference doesn't provide much help there. And they already play the Big Ten they would be most interested in (Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue). They get to play a national schedule now, which would seem like a much better recruiting tool than telling kids they get to play Louisville and Cincinnati or Indiana and Minnesota every year. And they are always on TV, which isn't as big of deal today as it once was, but I already know what channel Notre Dame is on while I have to wait to find out where other schools will be.
