Watching the "third" best quarterback in the country throw two interceptions against an extremely young secondary really makes it difficult for one to be a recruiter, correct? If

Auburn wants to bring him in to carry a clipboard that is fantastic but he will not play at the SEC or any FBS level program in the hunt for a national title

Couple things...

 

I find it comical how many people love to bash Pike on this board about his ability to play qb at the next level. I'll take the opinion of 100s of scouts over people on an Internet forum. Is he the perfect qb right now? Absolutely not. He's got a lot of work to do, and he's got the work ethic and drive to get better. Right now, he's on an average team and he's trying to do too much. He needs to just take what the defense is giving him and play his game. A couple years sitting the bench at Auburn will do him wonders, IMO.

 

One thing I noticed last night that hasn't been mentioned was Pike's attitude. I didn't see him yelling at coaches or teammates. It looks like whatever change was made last year during basketball has carried over to the gridiron.

 

Lastly, does Dixie play under their talent level each year, or are they over hyped each year. For some reason, I'd go with the latter. Outside of a handful of players, I don't see much talent each year.

True. They aren't being coached in practice, just standing on the sidelines. So when the Dixie coaches "sometimes" "maybe" insert a player into a position during the game, they're lost. They don't know they're assignments. Then they get an earfull when they come off the field. One coach can't coach all 11 kids on defense during practice alone. I'm retired and have been for a few years now so I have time to stop by Dixie and watch some practices. All I can say is Handlon, Cohorn, and Bruns do more position coaching than the other coaches who are watching. Maybe them 3 can come back some years down the road and coach at Dixie. Who knows, they might win more than one playoff game.

When you're running for your life because your line is getting worn down from playing both ways all night and your desperately trying to make something happen, you might have that. And that secondary is not extremely young. Reese, Cleves, Beatrice, come on now. Maybe you can join Pike at Auburn and get his water for him.

I wouldn't go that far by saying 100's. In fact, I think the honest coaches recruited him as an 'athlete'. The dishonest coaches will recruit him to the position the kid wants, and after a half hearted look, move him to say..... linebacker or some other position. I am not 'in the know' .... just saying... that's probably what has gone down; total speculation on my part.

Right, because you've recruited so many college players in your time.

Pike will be fine...You don't make it to the Elite 11 if you aren't any good..The only thing with Zeke is he tries to force a lot of passes. He'll get better the more he plays..

The potential key to this game was the line for Cov Cath. Just dominated Dixie's and through that Gabe Gray did have his monster game. Sam Burchell by the time he leaves Cov Cath may be the best to ever come through the school. But in regards to Zeke Pike, one cheer from the Colonel CRAZIES said it all "Auburn made a mistake."

 

Item 1: CCH offensive line - Yes the potential key was CCH's O line but I have to say Dixie more than held their own in the trenches till later in the game and how much of that was fatigue. I even commented how surprised I was that CCH wasn't able to effectively run on Dixie. The first couple of long runs by Gray I have to give it all to Gray. He broke tackle after tackle until he was in the clear and off to the end zone. If I were CCH, the offensive line play would be one area where I would have expected more in this game.

 

Item 2: Pike potshots - It is old and tired. First no one believed he was a QB. Then no one believed he would be a D1 recruit at QB. Then the doubters questioned how good he truly was. My goodness people, experts who make their living at evaluating players have him in the top 5 on their draft boards, he attended one of the premier national QB camps for a week and was put through every drill possible under the watchful eyes of experts and is named one of the best 11 QB's in the country and yet we still have people on this board trying to belittle him. Like him or not, at this point anyone who takes shots at Pike as a D1 QB prospect only belittles themselves and not Pike.

Plenty of guys have made the camp and done little to nothing in their careers...

I like Pike...but let's not give college or pro scouts and coaches too much credit...remember Ryan Leaf, Akili Smith and countless others that millions have been spent on, and produced nothing. Everybody is entitled to an opinion.

Pike could get a D1 scholarship at many different positions for different reasons. He has NFL bloodlines, he is 6'5, and he is a year and a half older than other seniors. Colleges love the fact that his body is another year maturer than others. But yes, a coaches job is to put players into the position to make a play. Then its the players job to actually make the catch, tackle, etc. Does anyone know how the Dixie players feel about there coaches?

Hmmm its strange, it seems like dixie has too much talent to be 0-2 right now, they'll pick it up im sure.
