Dixie’s #7 took quite a blow tonight, looked like to the neck/head. Fans saw it and verbally reacted, but no one (coaches/refs) bothered to pull him and check him out immediately after the play. He wobbled a bit getting up and regaining composure and didn’t appear to be fully able to block on the next play. Does this bother anyone else that he wasn’t even examined for a possible concussion before the next play took place? Hope the kid's alright.

 

Is 7 Hanlon? He had a serious injury in last year's opener if I recall correctly?

Um.... no big time SEC quarterback would attempt a throw across his body in the endzone. In the SEC, that's an interception, not a TD. That is a testament to CovCaths areas to improve more than a Dixie strength.

Was it just me or does Dixie have a really poor coaching staff. Some of the time outs called didn't make any sense. The clock management right before the half was aweful. The playcalling was very suspect on numerous occassions, then I counted 4 consecutive plays right before the half where someone from Dixie was either cramping or injured on a play, who's doing the conditioning over there. Didn't see CC, BWood or SK cramp up hardly at all all night. Then in the 2nd half, it appeared CC made all the adjustments and took control of the game and it appeared Dixie didn't have a clue how to adjust to what CC was doing. Now Pike's a heck of a QB and his abilities will likely win them some games, but, if they're playing a team anywhere close to there abilities, they're in big trouble.

He had a WR with a defender on his hip, a clear passing lane and fired a rocket 25 yards on target. There was what, 1.7 seconds on the clock at the time?

 

My point was his ability to even put that ball in the small space the throw required is why he is a big time recruit. I have always had my concerns over Pike as a high level BCS QB, but throws like that are only possible for a very small number of kids. It's a throw Favre made a million times. Some were INTs, but even more were TDs...

Dixie started strong, then crashed and burned.

 

Is CCH a contender or a pretender, that is a lot of points to give up?

 

Lets see (from all the accounts in the press at least) Zeke Pike is the 11th best HS QB in the Country and so he put up 35 points on CovCath. So Guru the problem is? I mean unless you think Zeke isn't a good QB?

 

BTW Zeke is 0-3 against CovCath in Football in his three varsity years at Dixie vs. CovCath

 

Just wondering if Alabama just might be a tad interested in CovCath Mr. Burchell after his hit on Zeke!

Yes, Pike does make that much difference offensively. His scrambling ability that allows him to extend plays makes a superior defense look bad. Without seeing the New Cath tape, I am still confident that Dixie scores at least two more TD's with Pike at QB because Pike will make plays other QB's don't make.

 

Gabe Gray took over and won the game for CCH. Bir looked good, especially on the quick out timing pattern. CCH would have won the game without Gray. But he was a huge difference maker in that game. Very impressive.

 

I am surprised to hear Burchell is only a sophomore. He is very good. He had the three best hits of the game.

 

Talkers versus Joe Nussbaum will be a very tough decision for kicker of the year in N. Ky. Both are automatic touchbacks any time they kick off and I saw both of them put it on the back end line of the end zone with hang time.

I have got to tip my hat to Dixie #7 Colin Justice. The young man played through pain and played his heart out!

I personally had a hard time understanding why the Dixie Coaches had the young man in the game at certain points as Justice was clearly in pain and IMO shouldn't have been on the field!

I am just checking out the archived broadcast. The announcer just said that Zeke is one of the top QBs in the country and is "trying to decide where to go."

 

Clyde, I tried to listen and watch but the announcers were so bad, I had to stop watching. I mean come on guys, it's sorta been front page news that Zeke has decided a long time ago where he was going to play college football at! Sad indeed and totally uninformed!

Wrong about Cohorn IMO. Same as Burchell from Covcath, humble and well mannered off the field, and definately a stud on the field. Bottom line with Dixie is too many kids playing on both sides of the ball majority of the games. So naturally by the time the halfway point of the third and all the fourth qtr. comes they're worn down. Especially the O and D lines. That's all on the Dixie coaching. I don't care how good the conditioning is, if you play almost every down, both sides of the ball, and a few of them on special teams also, not only are you physically done, but also mentally whipped.So that all falls back on the coaches at Dixie.QUOTE=scout;4132196]Pike was Pike tonight. Bir had another good game. The progress he's made from last year is stark.

 

The question mark for this CovCath team is the secondary. They made some good plays tonight, but they also gave up some big ones. Pike would not have be as effective without the big play.

 

Talkers is a huge weapon for CovCath and he has yet to kick a field goal.

 

Why does as school as big as Dixie play so many kids both ways? I sat next to a Dixie 'ex who was as surprised as I was. Cohorn is a good, not great, athlete, but he can not be expected to do it all. Is it time for the Edgewood Mafia to rise up?

Dixie plays so many kids both ways, maybe because they have to. Look up and down that Dixie roster and who do you want them to play. Dixie does not have the depth that the other schools do in Norther Kentucky. As far as Dixie not being in shape I think that is also a crock. Like another poster said Dixie is playing about 7 or 8 kids both ways with serveral never coming off the field. I do not care who you are or what kind of shape you are in come the 3rd and 4th quarter you are not going to be effective.

 

Another dissappointing loss and someone said the Dixie faithful should be more up in arms. Really what they heck can you do. Go out support the kids and hope something changes on the defensive side of the ball.

You can not use any of week 1 to measure Dixie's offense.

 

Respectfully Clyde, I will have to disagree with this. What you can take from week one is the attitude and work ethic of Dixie. As someone said, same story different year. I watched Dixie go through pregame last week and witnessed what has gone on for years there. Some (I said some) of the players go through drills and stretching half hearted. There was little emotion.

 

I did not get to see last nights game. I figured CCH would win. I was surprised at the number of points Dixie scored. A rivalry can do weird things. Playing kids both or all ways is nothing new in N.KY. Several schools have done it for years. The difference is some of the schools or players get in better shape to be able to handle it through a game. It all comes down to your attitude and work ethic to make it happen. Just because they are a big school, they can't just throw the helmets and shoulder pads out on the field and expect to win.

 

Colin Justice is a very good player and could be one of the top players in N.KY next year as a senior. i hope his injury is minor.

Great final 9 minutes of the 3 qrt. for CovCath scoring 28.

If you go back in look before the season, most believed that the DB were CovCath's weakness on defense.

At times you may have 3 soph.'s back there, so they are going to make mistakes.

As for Dixie, same old,same old.

Nothing you mentioned has anything to do with their ability as an offense to score points as compared to the offensive unit they had on the field against NCC.
