Evidently it is. I'm wondering why? Why is it different? The rallying cry for those against stuff like this is that it's a public school, meaning supported by the public's tax dollars.

 

Similarly, there have been rulings that the Ten Commandments or manger scenes cannot be on public property such as courthouses and the like.

 

Yet the most prominent of Christian ministers is permitted to pray in the controversial name of Jesus during one of the most meaningful ceremonies in the country.

 

I'm trying to figure out why it's okay to "endorse" religion in certain public venues & not in others. I personally see it as gross inconsistency & contradiction.

There is no constitutional phrase that includes 'separation'. That is a term created by intolerant religo-phobes.

Yet again, for the 1,000,000 time we have to point this out to you: Matthew 6:1, “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

 

Well let me point this out to you.

Mark 8:38 whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the son of man be ashamed when he cometh in the glory of his father withe the holy angels.

 

or how about this one:

 

2 Timothy 1:8 So do not be ashamed to testify about our lord or ashamed of me his prisoner.

 

I guess you will have to show me 1,000,001 times, but it will do no good. i do not go to games and try to preach or show myself, but I do believe my rights as a christian are being robbed every day by the likes of some of you on here who try to smooth it over with talk. It is called false teachers in the Bible.

Thread title needs changing...no one was prevented from pregame prayer.

 

Feel free to change it to no prayer before game because an atheist doesn't believe in God at Log Mnt.

Since we've had so many of these threads come up I think we need post what the first amendment actually says...

 

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I actually don't see the complete seperation of church and state there. I don't have a problem with the prayer or the ten commandments being displayed in court houses. I do have a problem with people claiming prayer has been taken out of this and that and you can't pray any more. I also think you have to accomodate all religions if requested too.

You guys might as well be aruging with the wall. I think these posts say all that needs to be said of mountain ref.

The SC obviously does not use one or two sentences to make decisions. They view the document as a whole. So you cannot leave out the clauses regarding establishment of religion and the free exercise of religion.

To me, this section of the U.S. Constitution, more than any other, reveals the limitations of the founding fathers. They were lawmakers just like any others, doing the best they could to come up with a framework for an entirely new nation. But just look at that, what kind of people would put those two clauses right next to each other? It's like they were looking for us to fight over it.

 

The First Amendment seems so fundamental in a free society, but it might be the one we've had the most trouble trying to actually live by. Just one example... the Constitution was adopted in 1787 and less than 10 years later, with many of the men who created the document still holding political office, Congress enacted the Alien and Sedition Acts.

Those who are giving the business (Eddie Haskell) to Mountain Ref, he is just frustrated as some of us are with the way our nation has changed. When we cannot say a prayer asking Jesus to protect our kids playing a sport where there are so many injuries well its sad. The prayer is not asking to save souls, asking for money, asking people to come to church, asking to believe in Jesus, its asking for protection for all the players and the people involved.
