August 24, 201115 yr Those who are giving the business (Eddie Haskell) to Mountain Ref, he is just frustrated as some of us are with the way our nation has changed. When we cannot say a prayer asking Jesus to protect our kids playing a sport where there are so many injuries well its sad. The prayer is not asking to save souls, asking for money, asking people to come to church, asking to believe in Jesus, its asking for protection for all the players and the people involved. Back in 50s/60s/70s this was never even brought up, in fact if they didn't say a prayer there would be a back lash. Can't you say your prayer in private? Or does God only act if said over the PA system at a public school game?

You are exactly right, it is my fault as well as every christian for letting our country get into the shape it is in today. Our churches did not go out and fight, we sit back and let others do the devils work and now look where we are.
August 24, 201115 yr Author Yet again, for the 1,000,000 time we have to point this out to you: Matthew 6:1, “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. just waiting on your reply back with scripture to prove my scripture isnt right.
August 24, 201115 yr "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." ";or abridging the freedom of speech..." Is a prayer speech?

No one says a prayer cannot be said.
August 24, 201115 yr Or a perversion of the Establishment Clause by .004 % of the population. There is no constitutional phrase that includes 'separation'. That is a term created by intolerant religo-phobes. That's an interesting take on things.
August 24, 201115 yr Back in 50s/60s/70s this was never even brought up, in fact if they didn't say a prayer there would be a back lash. And you don't see a problem there?

August 24, 201115 yr My guess is that there would be no problem with someone in the crowd starting to pray out loud and other people joining in until everyone in the stadium who wanted to pray out loud was doing so. I think it was the fact that a representative of the school led the prayer over the loudspeaker that created the issue. That's how I understand it anyway.
August 24, 201115 yr Well let me point this out to you. Mark 8:38 whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the son of man be ashamed when he cometh in the glory of his father withe the holy angels. or how about this one: 2 Timothy 1:8 So do not be ashamed to testify about our lord or ashamed of me his prisoner. I guess you will have to show me 1,000,001 times, but it will do no good. i do not go to games and try to preach or show myself, but I do believe my rights as a christian are being robbed every day by the likes of some of you on here who try to smooth it over with talk. It is called false teachers in the Bible. You are ignorant on this issue and what people are attempting to get across. As far as Mark 8:38, NO ONE is saying people are "ashamed". You do not understand what people are trying to say! And just tell us, how are your "rights as a C hristian are being robbed"? Can you not pray in the stands? YES YOU CAN! But I guess you are not capable of doing it unless 2,000 other people are doing it in a group? And your last 8 words of the post is false itself! Edited August 24, 201115 yr by SportsGuy41017
August 24, 201115 yr Out of curiosity...do you have issues with the public prayer offered at the Presidential inauguration? Often times led by incredibly prominent Christian ministers? (i.e. Rick Warren, Franklin Graham, Billy Graham) I find it as well as the opening prayer before congressional sessions (both federal and state) to be terribly inconsistent with the policy that prevents it at a football game.

I also think this way is Much better anyway! If someone is over the PA telling/demanding people to stand and pray, what will happen if someone doesn't? Pray on your own! That is what you are supposed to do anyway! If more people join in GREAT! If everyone joins in that is GREAT! A little bit off topic, but not really. I was at a Reds game a couple of months ago (I think it was a Sunday), Then all of a sudden over the PA they tell everyone to stand and remove your hats for the playing and singing of God Bless America. I did not stand, and the person I was with asked me why and I told them, they decided not to stand either. A couple of "rude" guys behind me had a few comments about it, and I told them "This is NOT the National Anthem! I really like the song, but by standing and removing your hat it is giving the song the same respect as the National Anthem, which cheapens the respect you give the National Anthem, and I will NOT cheapen that respect!" They did not say another word to me! My point, When a group of people are told to do something over a PA such as pray or sing, other will look at you in a certain way if you do not do it. If someone for whatever reason decides not to stand during a prayer, what do people think will happen? The word was mentioned a few post above "Backlash"! August 24, 201115 yr ";or abridging the freedom of speech..." Is a prayer speech? Yes. And we make laws abridging the freedom of speech all the time.
August 24, 201115 yr There is no constitutional phrase that includes 'separation'. That is a term created by intolerant religo-phobes. I must correct myself. The term has been attributed to Jefferson as the originator. Actually it was used prior to his use of it in the letter to the Danbury Baptists. From the Library of Congress: http://www.loc.gov/loc/lcib/9806/danbury.html "That Jefferson consulted two New England politicians about his messages indicated that he regarded his reply to the Danbury Baptists as a political letter, not as a dispassionate theoretical pronouncement on the relations between government and religion. His letter, he told Lincoln in his New Year's Day note, was meant to gratify public opinion in Republican strongholds like Virginia, "being seasoned to the Southern taste only." " Emphasis added. "...for the Danbury Baptist letter was never conceived by Jefferson to be a statement of fundamental principles; it was meant to be a political manifesto, nothing more." He was against the National Days of Prayer and fasting that were commonly called twice a year. That is true. The Danbury Baptist were actually upset at the state of Rhode Island and calling for help from Jefferson. He actually avoided address the state's role (as in one of the United States) in the letter. But he re-iterated that the National government has not role in supporting specific sects. I should say the quote has been mis-used by religo-phobes (i.e. atheists and such) for years.

Why say it is ignorant, because my scripture proves me right, you say pray in private and not bring attention, I say I am not ashamed to pray in public. The most ignorant stement I have seen is to ask HOW HAS CHRISTIAN RIGHTS BEEN ROBBED. Just go look on the news and see what is happening. Go to Bell Co adn see how those people feel, all but 2 that is. I guess the other hundreds didnt get robbed.
