No. But they haven't been that great lately. Last night was solely on Masset.

Lot of verbage wrapped around Ondrusek from the other night. Ok Masset blows it last night. What should Dusty have done differently last night? Oh and where all the Masset guys? He stunk last night...

Last year it all fell the right way and this year it is all wrong. Last year Rolen had a great season till August, Gomes/Nix played way over their heads in left and then Stubbs and Bruce got hot when those guys fell off. This year Rolen can't even get on the field, Gomes/Nix are both gone and Stubbs/Bruce just aren't producing enough to carry the big holes created. Last year, the bullpen performed when it needed to in order to post wins. This year the numbers look good but the reliever on the hill seems to always have that week's bad outing when the Reds just need a shutout inning to get a win. As I look at the Reds of the past two years, I see a young team that played over their heads last year, not a playoff team underperforming this year. I think the Reds best baseball is still ahead of them, maybe not this year.

 

I put very little of this on Dusty. I think he does what a manager should - communicates well with players so they always know where they stand and what their role is, puts the players in positions where they should succeed and are best for the team and shows confidence in his team to get the job done. But it is a little like playing poker. Sometimes you play great, make all the right moves, and the cards just don't fall the way they should according to the odds/stats. I see the problem in the personnel and performance, not in Dusty.

I agree, I thought that was a bit early. He got out of a jam an inning earlier, hit a dinger and done. I thought he should have run him out there another frame.

Sorry, wasn't really watching. I saw the Reds start the top half of the 7th and Welch said something about Willis being 3rd up and would be PH for. When I came back to they were up 3-2 and Masset was on the mound. Just assumed he was PH for.
