There are two givens in Cincinnati every baseball season. The Reds will play their opener at home and the fans will rip on the manager. I can't think of a manager who hasn't been ripped to shreds, especially since local sports talk became popular and needed to find something to stir people up every day. In baseball, win or lose, you can find something to debate and question about the game every single night.

I may be wrong here but didn't the last time they tried to get 1 more inning out of D-Train he got shelled? Maybe the 3rd time through the lineup.

 

I could be "mis-remembering" but I thought that could've been a reason. Honestly, they needed him to get through one more inning.

 

He went through a couple of innings where he had trouble missing bats but he has been getting a lot of groundballs with an occassional long fly due to hanging a pitch but I know the top of the order was coming up. The only problem I have is if Dusty was thinking that he might have dodged bullets and he didn't want him to go through the order again fine, but if he pulled him merely to get the bullpen some work I don't like that reason. If your starter has pitched well overall and is low in the pitch count give him a chance to at least get deep in the game and help his confidence. Even though he might not show his displeasure with the bullpen blowing his lead he probably felt he could have gone back out there. It wasn't hot in the dome and he had thrown only 77 pitches.

You guys can try to hang this season on Dusty. But in all reality this is still nothing more than .500 team. They haven't been anything more than that for going on two decades, except for last season. Which is becoming more apparent to have been an aberation.

 

All the more reason they needed a manager that could help them overcome some of their shortcomings. Good managers can help take some of the sting off bad play by being quick on their decisions and being decisive in their moves.

Would've been the top of the lineups 4th time seeing Dontrelle. Dusty made a good move taking Willis out.

I disagree. One of the few things that the talking heads said last night that I listened to was that "Maybe" they could be getting a little tired. Dusty has leaned on them both pretty heavily the last 2 years and with all the talk about the Reds looking to add to the bullpen at the break maybe they are wearing down.

I don't consider myself a "Dusty" guy as much as I think I have a pretty good understanding of when a manager is and is not to blame. I've questioned things he has done but as I've stated many, many times, no one has the knowledge of the situation, players, stats...etc. that he does. I tend to have faith in those guys.

Wonder what quick decision would have been made when no one except Votto could hit the entire month of June. Everyone on here has been screaming about the shortcoming of the field players offensively. You tell me, how does a manager fix that? This team is simply not very good.
