Look, there is plenty enough blame to go around for this seasons embarrassment. Of course some fault goes on the players. What I have been blasting Toothpick for is his very obvious mishandling of a pitching staff. Baker has no idea when to take a pitcher out or know when he is done. Baker's handling of pithers is laughable at best. Dusty also cannot make out a lineup and keep them there long enough to know who/what will work, his batting orders are the same incosistent. A player imo has to get used to his role in the lineup, position in the batting order.etc..

I also think that Dusty is too easy on the team. Being a "buddy" to the players sometimes doesn't work. A manager imo has to light a fire under them when needed and get into their "stuff" when they need a wake up. Good ol' Dusty needs to be a manager instead of a best friend.

He didn't have much of a choice with Cozart. Janish was sent down, and Renteria was banged up. Frazier has gotten a lot of playing time lately, but it wasn't that way when he was 1st called up.

Dusty Baker made it sound like the young players are going to get a lot of playing time.

 

Todd Frazier and Dave Sappelt played big roles in the 8-7 win. Frazier’s was obvious: He went 2-for-4 with a homer and a RBI double. Sappelt was 1-for-5 with a run scored in his debut but he played very well defensively in left field.

 

“That’s why they’re here,” Baker said. “They ain’t here to paint. They’re here to play ball. Do what comes natural to them, what they’ve been yearning for their whole career.”

 

Baker put Sappelt in the lineup and the leadoff spot.

 

“Hey, man, that’s what I like to do,” Baker said. “He’s been playing down there everyday. He’s been playing pretty well. He can hit. There were a few things he had to work on. Hopefully, he worked on them down there. The main thing we know is he can hit. Hopefully, he can give us a jolt in that leadoff spot.”

 

I wish one of the writers would ask him to justify Sappelt sitting today based on these comments. Would also love to hear his reasoning for Hernandez playing lately with Homer on the hill. He's terrible with Ramon behind the plate.

 

 

It's just Dusty being Dusty. The guy is an idiot. That is why I laughed out loud when I read the quote yesterday. Dusty hates playing the young guys. He has more than proven that the past 3 or 4 years. He simply has to go. I can't wait to see how VOR defends him today. The Reds are done, yet Dusty is still playing Fred Freaking Lewis over a young guy like Sappelt. Come on Dusty supporters. Defend away. Explain the logic.
