I know what you guys are saying but I've never been big on getting deep in pitch counts unless a guy is struggling. If you're looking for a pitch, get it in a location that you are looking for, what's wrong with swinging at it? Even if it's the 1st or 2nd pitch in the AB?

 

On the flip side, being fooled and swinging with less than 2 strikes is unacceptable.

 

I don't disagree with hitting good pitches but I watch this a lot and it just seems like the teams the Reds play make the Red's pitchers work much harder and look at a lot of pitches thus getting their counts up earlier. Then too it might be the Reds pitchers just aren't good enough to get ahead other than maybe Cueto and Bailey who has gotten better at this lately.

Like the pitching was any better, 7 earned runs. As a matter of fact they pretty much sucked on offense, defense and the mound this series. They are lost right now and time is running out, even in a division as weak as the NL Central.

If any of the other 3 teams ahead of the Reds goes 3 games over .500 the rest of the way the Reds need to go 37-22 to finish 1 game ahead of them.

 

Hey now, according to VOR those numbers aren't relevant....if the Reds go on a 10 game winning streak it skews the numbers remember?

The fact that they'd have to play .627 baseball has no bearing on their situation.

 

What bearing on the situation does it have? The fact that they have played like crap the last two weeks and those numbers got worse means what? What do those numbers tell you? That they have to play great baseball the rest of the way to win the division? I just don't see any value in knowing what those numbers are unless you are trying to figure out when you can stop caring about the season.

Now these are some numbers with some value!! This tells us something about what is wrong with the team and why the teams ahead of them are ahead of them. We can look at these numbers and think about how the team can get better.

Like I said, all phases of the game let them down. If they play defense they win last night. The pitching gave them no chance tonight and the offense gave them no chance Monday.

I agree with others in that I believe that the Reds hitters need to make a pitcher work more and not help them/bail them out by not working them deep in a count if they can. Should they see a "meatball', 'hanging breaking pitch" the sure make the pay but don't help them by swinging at bad or marginal pitches. They could call time, step out, anything to break a pitchers rythym, especially if he is going good.

Some of the better teams in baseball......Red Sox, Yankees are just two examples of making a pitcher work, get into the opponets bullpen. Some fans get mad on how long the games drag out but they are happy with a win.

 

As for tonights so called exhibition of baseball , the team just flat,lack of effort, no emotion,etc. ; like they didn't want to be out there. This Reds team imo is on the fence of staying and getting into the race or folding. I know that I expected a good 2nd half and as of now have not seen it.

They freakin' suck. Bronson sucks, Votto sucks, Hanigan sucks, Bruce sucks....Trade Votto to the highest bidder in the off season. We're not going anywhere in the next two years. No need to keep him and let him sign elsewhere and get nothing.

Does this team ever take a starting pitcher deep into counts early? I go to the games and look up in the 3rd and 4th innings and the opposing starters are cruising at 40-50 pitches and the Reds are in the 70-80 range. I guess this is their offensive strategy but it sure doesn't get the other team's starter out early.
