July 26, 201115 yr You have to give up something to get something. Given Hamilton's poor batting average he is far from a given as far as being a big-time player. Mesoraco is a nice player but he projects as a .280 15 HR 80 RBI guy in the majors according to most experts. If those 2 are the centerpieces to a deal for a potential #1 or #2 starter that would be under the club's control for multiple years at a reasonable salary they should give it some serious thought. Those kind of stats would probably put Mesoraco in the All Star game at catcher.

True, but their platoon at catcher is hitting .281 with 12 HRs and 43 RBIs while mostly hitting 8th and where has that gotten them? A rotation that includes Jiminez could put them in the playoffs the next 3 seasons.
July 26, 201115 yr Author They should never have started the inning with him. He was already at 103 pitches, his season high is 114--no way he was finishing the inning. Why leave him in there to potentially get the loss when the pen was rested? Especially in that heat. They could have went Chapman, Massett, Cordero 7,8,9 or played matchup in the 7th and then their 8th and 9th inning guys. :thumb::thumb: I agree on all points made here. Dusty must have lost his gps unit, once again he had no idea where the pitchers mound was or what to do if he did go out. :irked:

That was bad but Dusty once again proved that he cannot handle a pitching staff. The Reds could possibly have had a shot to win tonight but that was gone when toothpick put Leake back out there when it was obvious that he was done.

Most major league teams would kill to have a catcher with those type numbers. Do you realize how few catchers there are that even come close to that?

I don't disagree that you have to give something to get something but catchers that can give you .280 with 15 HRs and 80 RBIs over a 120-130 game season and have good defensive skills are few and far between. The Reds have drafted 12 catchers in the last 3 drafts, 11 of those in 2009 and 2010 alone with their first pick in 2010 being Grandal. Now if they really think that Grandal can be the man down the road then Mesorasco can be traded but you aren't going to give away your closest thing to a major league ready catcher until you are sure of that happening. I have to think that they want to keep both for the near future.
