I agree. There is still a rental place in my hometown but I never see anyone in the parking lot. If I remember correctly, as little as ten years ago there were three rental places as well as movie rentals at most of the gas stations. It's amazing how quickly things change. My three-month old will probably look at me with crossed eyes in a few years when I tell him about renting movies and talking on a land-line phone!

Netflix streaming on XBOX is about horrid...old movies.

Netflix is currently streaming all of the original Star Trek series as well as The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine... everything about that is awesome and worth every penny. Those series are next up as soon as I finish my current project: Doctor Who... which is a great show if you've never seen it. Netflix streaming is incredible for watching TV series, if not necessarily the best when it comes to newly-released movies or even running a search for specific titles. But I've never logged on and not found something excellent to watch.

That is what people fail to understand, or they don't care, they don't care if someones price raises as long as it's not passed down to them. If the prices are not raised they would go out of business.

After reading about Netflix, here, I checked out their selection. None of the popular movies, that I looked for, were available for streaming. For the most part, they only had movies I hadn't heard of before.

 

You'd be surprised just how excellent many of those movies are!

 

I've been addicted to series lately. I finished the first 2 seasons of the Tudors and was crushed when there were no more available. The other night, they dropped in 2 more! I'm back to being addicted! The BBC Robinhood series is AWESOME! I watched Raising The Bar and Philly, which were both excellent as well.

 

It's value is far greater than having the latest movies, in my personal opinion. I go to RedBox if I simply can't wait to see a movie. Other than that though, I have never failed to find something to watch on Netflix.

When I was in elementary and middle school (early- and mid-90s), being allowed to go to the video store and rent a Nintendo or Super Nintendo game was basically the highlight of my week. I would hope and hope that they'd let me just browse that massive section of games at the Roadrunner Video in our neighborhood. That is a childhood experience that is long gone.

I'm in the middle of a Law & Order: SVU kick. They have the entire series from episode 1 to episode 250ish available to watch. I'm currently in the middle of season 3, roughly episode 55.

For TV shows, there's no better deal than Netflix right now.

 

The Office, Sons of Anarchy, Weeds, Dexter, Parks & Recreation... Lots of the shows I love to watch, and they are either there now or have been in the past. And Mad Men is coming soon.

 

It also has every episode of Andy Griffith, Roseanne, Cheers, Family Ties... And lots of other shows I basically grew up watching in syndication.

 

The only thing it's missing is a deal with HBO for their shows, but with HBOGo, that's not even necessary to me (as a HBO subscriber). I can watch The Wire, Eastbound & Down, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Sopranos, Band of Brothers... At my convenience and for no additional charge.

We currently have the streaming + 1 DVD at a time plan for about $10 a month. We have decided to just keep the streaming with the new pricing for $8 a month. We don't get enough of the DVD selections a month to justify paying the new price.

Most (if not all) of the movies released by Paramount are not available for streaming view - at least not immediately following release. Paramount is owned by Viacom, who also owns Blockbuster Video. They're not going to give away the rights for streaming video when it potentially damages another of their companies. You're right though, often times the movies available for streaming view are more of an "indie" type.
