#53. He's the one carrying the trophy in the picture I posted. That's kind of a joke with the wife and I . Someone gave us a disc of I think the Newport game and he was on the ground in about 75% of the pictures. We always ask him home can he be tired? All he does is lay on the ground.

I don't think I have much to add to the discussion except that OC

was simply unable to stop the sweep to the left side by Kasey Clark,

and that was because of excellent blocking and strong running. I

think that Russell played their most smashmouth football game of

the year on Saturday, but I don't believe it was on accident, rather

the Russell staff recognized some weakness in the OCath defense.

 

The only other comment that I can make is about Tyler Jones blocked

punt. He said that he didn't even realize that he had blocked it, and

my initial reaction was that he hadn't even touched it. I think that

the picture above kind of shows that the kick might have come off

the side of his ankle. It doesn't really make a diffence because the

punt only went 3 yards, but I think it was because the kicker hurried

it, and not because he got a piece of it.

 

Lastly, and most importantly...

 

WAY TO GO DEVILS!!

It takes an entire team to win a championship and that starts with the Coach,

Mcglone just keeps outcoaching the other side, he should be an inspriration to all the other coaches in the state, in all sports!!! :thumb:

 

Then theres the offensive line, the unsung heroes that make or break you, and they flat controlled the line of scrimmage all year, what a job :thumb:

 

and then theres "highlight", Kasey Clark can smell the end zone better than any other kids I've ever seen, and I cant remember the last time he came up short on the tough, must have plays. His spin moves are now memorialized on the Jumbotron, he just wouldnt be denied :thumb:

 

This Russell team wasnt real flashy, they just won the Championship,the old fashioned way! and I guess that is enough :dancingpa

He loves playing the game on the carpet so much, he's actually kissing it during the game.

This whole week has been a blast. All the great stories and coverage by Maynard and crew were the perfect crescendo for the AA championship game. Driving down yesterday with the vehicle painted up and our Russell flag flying it was great to see all the community support. A whole lot of vehicles heading toward the 'Ville had license plates other than Greenup County and when we got to the game you could see the Raceland orange, Lawrence County red, Boyd County red and of course the Ashland maroon/white fans all on our side of the field and cheering right along with us for a Russell victory.

 

This Russell team has gone out all year long and "went to work" on Friday nights. Some shifts were more challenging than others, (there was one night that we even forgot to show up, i.e., BC), but they all served the same purpose; the goal of making it to the carpet. Ivan obviously had the team ready once again to roll up their sleeves to put in an honest day's work for an honest day's pay. It just so happens that this payday included a bonus called a state title trophy.

 

Congrats go out to all of the starters and those that got to play and hear their names annouced for a tackle, fumble recovery, etc. You can read about their exploits in today's paper. But my hat also goes off to those guys that put the pads on and grind it out on scout squads in the heat of summer and endure the long bus rides, etc., and never get the uniform dirty. A team has to have guys like these that see the bigger picture and understand their supporting role on the team. It's no less their victory and here's a big thank you!

 

Thanks Russell Red Devils for a great season. I'm looking forward to next year already!

Just got back from the game after a 6 hour return trip home. It was a great weekend of football for all of us. First off I would like to thank all the fans from the other schools that attended the game and were there cheering on the Red Devils. It sure did seem odd seeing a football player from another team rooting for Russell.

 

Congratulations Red Devils. STATE CHAMPIONS

 

The coaching staff did an excellent job preparing for the game. I can't wait till next year as the team comes out for the first game onto the new Ivan McGlone field. What an honor. Congratulations.

 

The play of the linemen. You guys made it happen. I read on here how you were firing of the ball and I also noticed that. I also noticed linemen making thier blocks and then looking for someone else to knock down. The line play was way to much for O.C. to handle.

 

If you guys recall several O.C. fans predicted that Russell would run out of gas. I responded by saying you never know there might be some O.C. players with thier hands on thier hips going into the fourth. I was laughed at by the O.C. fans. Well guess what? The Russell line had the O.C. players with thier hands on thier hips at several stages in the fourth.

 

Mr. Clark ran the ball with an intensity that reminded me of Howard from Belfry. Clark has his own stile and it appears that that spin move is now a part of his attack. On one play he dragged several O.C. players for 10+ yards before being tackled. What about them 44 TD's. Player of the game congratulations.

 

This was one of the best team efforts that I have witnessed in some time. I guess you could call it Ivan ball. Big plays in crucial situations.

 

 

Last but not least at the beginning of the game I noticed the way O.C. was lining up for the kick off. I turned to a friend of mine and said something to the effect. Ivan will on side this just watch. Result Russell ball. On the very next kick off O.C. still did not adjust so Russell did the same thing. Now from where I was standing Russell was the only ones around the ball when it went out of bounds. Great scouting coaches.
