TP...I heard from one of your rivals to check to see how many MF players over the past 5yrs have played at the next level. He gave me a number, but since it's your rival I took it with a grain of salt. I'd believe it if it came from you. Out of curiosity, how many?

 

I can't think of any in the last 5 that went major, we have 1 now (Jackson a Jr.) that will unless he gets an injury and Higginson is getting some attention from a couple of majors but I suspect he will wind up at Murray State or somthing smaller. We had I think 3 off of the 02 team that went major and a couple others that went to Murray that year as well as a couple that went small. We have a few here and there that have gone to OVC schools in the last 5 years but mainly just small. Guhy had the opportunity off last years team but decided to pass on athletics in college. A couple are going to Murray preferred walks and I think 2 maybe headed small.

Larry they were a very good football team last year and we knew for several years before their arrival that they would be very good. We routinely beat the bigger classification schools around us so I'm not sure what your point is. We were the 1A state champs, went undefeated and played a non district schedule that consisted of all larger classification schools and if you go back and look at alll the Massey, Lit Ratings ect you will find we were in the top 10 in the state in all classes. I do'nt know what more we could have done and don't care as I got what it was I wanted with the state title.

After watching them play last year I was sure that we played three teams better than them in NKY, with the possibility of five that could have beaten them. Larry, we cant play em all. I know for a fact some Boyle coaches said they were happy they didnt have to go against us. Now, I'm not saying we would have beaten them But we could beat them. I can also say I know for a fact what some Mayfield coaches thought as to how we would fare against most top teams and they thought around 5 to 10. Mayfield was very solid last year and TP is just have some fun with the BW faithfull plus we dont get that much ink here unless we include the BW bunch or have some other NKY slant. Besides Larry, we really dont care what you think.

The numbers back up that statement...Most passing yards, most points scored, most passing TDs, largest margin of victory, etc.. Last years team holds all those records, not to mention they were pretty much 50-50 in passing vs rushing yards, so, they were very diverse which made them extremely hard to prepare for..

 

Alot of past Mayfield teams won alot of games with there defense and had alot of 14-7 type wins, plus, under Jack Morris's regime when they were winning alot of those titles, they were primarily a wishbone team, 4 yrds and a cloud of dust, nothing even remotely close to the spread, air it out offense of the past 2 yrs..

Not disputing that at all. Some past Cardinal teams played much better competition, no doubt about it. That still doesn't mean those teams had better offenses. I've been following the Cards since the early 70s, and I can't remember any that had as many big play receivers or a QB who was so accurate or a team that could score so quickly and effortlessly. I can remember many that had better RBs or better lines or a single dominating player, but, overall, last years had to be the best I've seen at efficiency, utilizing numerous players to go to, etc.. They were a well-oiled machine and I'm sure that if they had played a few more tougher games, it may have made them look a little less efficicient, but, I still think all things considered and actual productivity, those guys have to get my vote.

Guhy was arguably the best QB Beechwood faced last year - and Beechwood saw Pike and Towles. Obviously Pike and Towles are on a different level athletically. But Guhy was IMO the best QB Beechwood saw at reading a defense and finding the open receiver. He was great at that. Honestly, without Guhy, I think Beechwood had a good chance of beating Mayfield.
